Chapter 26 - A Blinded Walk

"Hasn't Naelle told you anything else about those men ?"

It was hard to imagine the blondie only saying that, some men accompanied her and her brother, without any more details. And even harder to think that Celia hadn't asked anything to the girl about her story.

But it seemed that since monsters now existed, everything impossible started to become possible.

"In fact... I don't know that much about the rest of the story. It's not like she told me a lot..."

Still covered by shame, and also anxiety, as the man revealed almost everything he knew to her, Celia scratched her right cheek. The soft and light finger slowly rubbing its nail against the slightly red surface.

"Nothing ?"

She nodded to Asaki's second question, she had nothing else left that she could tell him. This made the man discretely sigh of desperation as he once again, pressed himself againt one of the tree.

'Of course that she wouldn't tell her anything ! She surely already broke a rule by talking about these guys, so even if Naelle's pretty dumb...'

She was still able to perfectly lie, as any other human could. But this still didn't felt logic... Why starting to talk about them, then ?

And why even lying to Celia and Asaki about today's date in the first place ?

"So, Celia... What do you think ?"

He stilled needed to know the Aurora's opinion on the question before doing anything else, even resuming their travel to the church. Without it, Asaki will keep being trapped into a growing circle of wrath toward the twins, even if he himself knew since a moment that their decisions could be ordered, and not natural.

The Aurora stretched a few fingers to her chin while thinking about Asaki's question, visibly not sure yet about what she should believe or not.

And who...

"It's true that we may... Be in March, there are too many elements proving it, so I can't really deny anything. But about the twin's motives... We shouldn't jump too hastily to that kind of conclusion."

She also had a point, nothing proved that the twins themselves were aware of the actual date, or freely lying. There was just one thing that the man didn't understand, the reason behind Milas's lie about the food.

They were all hungry and eating wouldn't cause any threat, so keeping them from doing so made no sense.

But now that Asaki realized about the possible month which had really passed...

It was possible that in a single month, a shop's stack could be fully utilized, and so, Milas may simply haven't lied at all.

"You're right, the main enemy should be the monsters, not humans."

Celia slightly nodded, a small noise of agreement even escaping her lips as her eyes locked to the sun, visibly about to set soon.

Asaki too, saw the night slowly preparing to cover the sky and nightmares within less than an hour, did they really talk that much ?

"We should talk about this... More privately."

And so start to resume their journey to the Letatras Church, the only hint Asaki's dream gave to him. After he heard the girl's proposition, the young man left for the last time the tree he used until now, looking once more to the blue sky gradually turning orange.

"You're right, let's head to the church now."

°°°

The ambience of the rest of the travel was pretty awkward. On one side, you had Celia, visibly still shocked about that many revelations at once. And on the other, the one who told her all those revelations, letting the girl think a bit alone in front of him.

The worst part surely being that... He hadn't even told her the most important one.

The forest, because of the incoming night, was also gradually changing. The leafless tree, which orange and green leafs recovered the ground, were turning darker and darker like shadow limbs. The few bush on the road also became... A bit wider, because of the darkness making it hard to clearly distinguish their forms.

The dirt composing the ground, however, completely disappeared once the majority of the light stopped reaching it. The two survivor now walking onto something they couldn't even really see, a blinded walk.

'The church...'

Asaki had some kind of past with the Letatras Church, his parents obviously included and being its cause. Since they left, he never walked once again inside of one, and in fact would've preferred avoiding doing so again.

Not that he peculiarly hated the Letatras, nor his parents. He just...

Simply couldn't stand to face those things, or persons, anymore.

"Finally-"

Started a sudden high-pitched voice coming from the Aurora, stopping a few seconds to look at what dressed inside the vast horizon the rest of the hill offered.

Just a few seconds later, the white-haired man joined her by her side, and also looked at what dressed before their eyes.

It was there.

The golden and shining symbol of the Letatras church, surrounded by trees where orange leafs were still hung, as the symbol was to a sort of white spike.

"Hmff..."

Now that he was finally seeing this symbol once again, Asaki's heart tensed a little more, as his intestines gradually started to ache as time passed by. It was exactly this one...

Those golden scripts and letters covering the pristine white walls, those trees surrounding it, this light-brown road amongst the forest leading to the church...

This was exactly the church he had seen in his dream.
