Chapter 136 - CHAPTER 131 RISKING IT

'Hmm, why does the Four-Winged Eagle have more compatibility than the rest when it is clearly not a humanoid lifeform? ' He is confused with the compatibility issue.

[There is not enough data regarding the existence of the Four-Winged Eagle; the system has a hypothesis of elemental compatibility; Leon seems to have awakened the ability to control the wind element.]

'To think that the reason for such high compatibility is actually this, I did not even discover that Leon has awakened and wind element.' He thought.

Considering that he is the soul of the true owner of his body, it seems that if he had not died, he would have awakened the supernatural ability to control wind.

Leon then starts fusing with the Four-Winged Eagle; unfortunately, the fluctuation of his evolution attracted the greed of the maddened lifeforms nearby.

Cleo quickly realizes this when he senses the greed in their eyes as they gaze upon Leon. He snorts and takes out his two swords. He is going to preserve his energy by fueling Leon's evolution, so he can only rely on his physical strength.

Glutton growls; even though both of them are outnumbered and multiple of their opponents are fake Supernaturals, not a hint of fear can be seen in their eyes.

HOWL! Glutton surprisingly initiates the attack. Cleo was shocked but did not reprimand it. He knows that one of them has to put his focus on protecting Leon and the other has to go on offense to decrease the number of lifeforms trying to eat Leon.

Unfortunately for the two of them, the enemy is just too strong for Glutton; he might be able to fight against multiple enemies at the same grade and level, but against Supernaturals, even if they are not bona fide true Supernaturals, he is still no match against them.

Glutton maneuvers around his enemies, but suddenly, one of the supernaturals appears beside him at a speed that he is unable to react to.

BOOM! With just one attack, his body was destroyed, and Cleo had to hurriedly unsummon him in order to save his life. The unprepared action of unsummoning one of his blessings has a drawback.

The system immediately warns him that since Glutton is connected to him via his soul, the action hurts him a bit, but he does not care; as long as he saves him, he can endure another bout of injury to his soul.

'This is not working! Everyone is too preoccupied to protect Leon! ' He frowns as he is pushed back by the relentless attack of his enemies. No matter how much he tries to stop them, the fluctuation of energy that Leon exudes is just too alarming for them to ignore.

"Lord Miracle Child! We are here to help!" He hears a shout that startled him. Even with the chaotic battlefield that drowns in almost every sound, this particular shout was clear to him.

There was only one reason for this: the owner of the voice was his group, the Miracle Group, which consists of Flare's former guards and a few hand-picked warriors from their family.

"Die beasts!" A swordsman slashes at an injured supernatural; his sword was not even able to hurt the lifeform.

'Sh*t! ' Just as the swordsman was about to be killed, Cleo made his move and blew the lifeforms away, saving the swordsman's life at the nick of time.

Hmph! "Do you really think that Supernatural Grade lifeforms are that weak? They might be injured, but that is only because they fought against me!" He is a bit angry; the swordsman was none other than Wind Sword.

It seems that the temptation of obtaining a supernatural-grade blessing is just too much for the poor warrior.

Wind Sword powers his head in shame. He was overtaken by greed. Seeing the degree of injury on that lifeform, he thought that an attack with his entire being behind it would surely kill it. Unfortunately, he is reminded just how vast the difference is between an Advanced Gene Warrior and a Supernatural Grade lifeform.

Hmph! "You are the Shane of our group!" Iron Captain snorted and sneered at Wind Sword. Even after he saw the injured Supernatural, the thought on his mind was not to kill it but how to avoid it.

His bountiful experience as Flare's former guard has honed his mindset; he knows just how powerful supernatural lifeforms are.

"Good, now that you are here, I want you to protect Sir Immortal until he breaks through his current realm. If he is successful, we will obtain another supernatural warrior for our group, and our chances of survival will definitely massively increase." Cleo stood their bickering and solemnly told them their objectives.

"You can count on our group; the new members might not be dependable, but my men and I will definitely risk our lives to protect Sir Immortal!" the Iron Captain promised with determination in his eyes.

"That, I believe, your men did the same thing to me before. I can definitely put my trust in your group. Do not worry, I will keep the Supernaturals busy. What you guys are going to look out for are the numerous advanced lifeforms going to attack."

"Wait! What do you mean by not being dependable!? I admit that my decision earlier was foolish, but this does not mean that I cannot be trusted! I might be an insect against those monstrous beings, but against lifeforms of the same level, I can confidently say that I am better at killing them than you!" Wind Sword and the other members of the group were angry at Iron Captain for dismissing them.

"All bark and no bite," one of the guards mocks. They might be weak compared to monsters like Cleo and abnormals like Leon, but they are fiercely loyal, and with them working together, they can accomplish many things compared to ordinary warriors.

"What did you say!?" One of the new members becomes incensed. They had always envied elite warriors under the nobles; they had always thought that they were better than these slaves, but after the war started, the regular warriors quickly realized their mistake.

They are not better; in fact, in terms of group battles, they are definitely weaker. As the guard has said, poke a sore spot on them.

"Enough! We are in the middle of a battle!" Cleo becomes furious; they are now in a life-and-death battle, and yet the two groups are still fighting each other. He already has his hands full from preventing as many lifeforms as he can, yet they are still fighting amongst themselves.

The two groups become silent, but tension is still there. The new members grip their weapons and prepare their soul blessings, as they can see that there are some lifeforms that managed to bypass Cleo.

"Prepare yourselves; those lifeforms are not weak! Lord Miracle Child might be slaughtering them, but this does not mean that they are easy to deal with. Do not compare yourselves to our young master; at least you become complacent and dare to draw your weapons against something vastly stronger than you." Iron Captain warns the new members; he might not accept them, but he does not want to see them die a worthless death.

Meanwhile, Wind Sword grips his Soul Blessing tightly. He knows that Iron Captain was actually insulting him, and he cannot help but grit his teeth in anger as he knows that what he did earlier will haunt him for a long time.

'We need to deal with that goddamn song! ' He inwardly cries; he can see that their group is being pushed back slowly; even with the existence of the teachers, they are actually losing the battle; they are just too outnumbered and out of power.

'Hold on! As long as Leon completes his breakthrough, we can still hold this stronghold! ' He knows that he is just tricking himself, but he does not care. He might not get exhausted physically with his multiple abilities, but the mental drain that he is feeling right now is causing his body to become sluggish.

'F*ck it! 'He suddenly decided to risk everything.

[Warning! Warning! ]

The system quickly discovers what he is thinking and starts blaring out warning signs, but he can only do this to buy more time for everyone to grow stronger or at least recover.

"Everyone! Retreat!" He roars as he charges towards the tide of lifeforms. His body morphs into that of a beast, and suddenly, an incredibly malevolent and evil aura descends on the battlefield. Even the lifeforms are forced to pause because of this.

Chaos! Destruction! Death!

Instantly, the entire battlefield is enveloped by some sort of dark mist, and the and the pained cries of beasts and ghostly wails can be heard.

The desire to kill starts to root itself into the hearts of everyone that touches the black and bloody mist; even the song is not able to dispel the effect.

Deep within the dense mist were two eyes that gleam with evil desires. The prickling sensation of the gaze causes everyone to feel a chill running down their spine.
