Cassandra held her knife and fork with the grace of a seasoned diner, an air of refined education about her that might lead one to mistake her for royalty. Cutting a piece of pancake, she indulged herself with a bite, and the sheer pleasure etched across her face was unmistakable. Her eyes rolled back in bliss.
"Oh good heavens! I could consume this delight every day," Cassandra exclaimed, savoring each morsel.
"You think that's good? Try this," said Maeve, holding up her milkshake for Cassandra to partake. Cassandra's plump lips wrapped around the straw as she took a sip. Maeve, unable to conceal her feelings well, blushed as she observed Cassandra's reaction.
"So? How does it taste?" Maeve inquired, a hint of anticipation in her voice.
"Absolutely delightful!" Cassandra exclaimed with enthusiasm. Intrigued, she went in for another sip, revealing that these culinary delights were entirely new to her palate. "I can't quite put my finger on it, but this taste is quite familiar. Although the sweet treats where I'm from pale in comparison to this delectable beverage. What's it called?" asked Cassandra.
"A milkshake," answered Maeve with a smile.
"I see, so, in order to create this concoction, all you need is shaken milk?" pondered Cassandra. Her question triggered laughter from Maeve, who wiped away tears from her eyes.
"Well, you're not wrong, actually you're pretty close; that's kind of how it's made, with a few extra things added like sugar and fat," explained Maeve.
"I see, how curious indeed," mused Cassandra.
Maeve gazed at her straw, a subtle realization dawning upon her that Cassandra's lips had just touched it. "This is an indirect kiss, isn't it?" she thought to herself. Visibly flustered, she took a sip while casting a glance up at Cassandra.
"Everything okay?" inquired Cassandra.
"Yeah, this milkshake just tastes really good now," Maeve replied with a smile, attempting to mask the flutter of emotions beneath her composed exterior.
As they continued to enjoy their meal, the café bathed in the warm glow of the sun, their laughter and conversation filled the air, creating a scene reminiscent of a fairytale unfolding in the heart of the city.
* * *
Maeve and Cassandra left the café and continued their leisurely stroll through the shopping district, Cassandra captivated by every sight that the Earthly realm had to offer. Storefronts beckoned her attention at every turn, and Maeve couldn't help but smile at Cassandra's genuine curiosity.
Amidst their walk, Maeve caught sight of a poster that read:
FIREWORKS FESTIVAL
NOVEMBER 15th
- STREET FOOD
- LASER SHOW
- LIVE MUSIC & DJ's
- GIANT BONFIRE
COME ALONE OR BRING A FRIEND!
with some other enticing details below. Excitement bubbled within her – she immediately knew she was going to ask Cassandra to go with her, but she wanted to keep it a surprise. Quickly moving away from the poster, Maeve suppressed her enthusiasm.
Maeve approached Cassandra "our movie starts in ten, we should get going"
"Of course, my apologies for keeping you waiting, this place is just filled to the brim with technological marvels" replied Cassandra.
"No not at all, to be honest I love watching you take in the sights, we can definitely come back another day if you'd like" replied maeve.
"I'd like that a lot" said Cassandra.
"Yess! Second date officially secured!" Maeve celebrated internally.
The vibrant city street, elevated by the warm glow of numerous store fronts, became a stage for an untimely confrontation. Laughter and chatter filled the air as a group of rowdy men staggered by, clearly drunk as they shouted and cheered, causing pedestrians to part out of their way. Their raucous behavior seemed harmless until one among them decided to escalate it.
As the man separated from the group, his intention became alarmingly clear. A lewd wolf whistle cut through the air, drawing attention to Cassandra, who was unaware of the approaching intrusion. The atmosphere shifted, tension hanging in the air, as the man took an audacious step and, with a brazen sense of entitlement, delivered a slap to Cassandra's ass.
The echo of the disrespectful act resonated, momentarily freezing the ambient sounds of the city. Cassandra's reaction was swift, her eyes began to glow bright neon green as she quickly positioned her hands in a formation to cast a spell, something Maeve knew all too well.
As Cassandra's temper flared and the man's audacious act hung in the air, Maeve sensed the impending chaos. Knowing Cassandra was the type to act first and ask questions later, Maeve instinctively stepped forward, a surge of determination guiding her movements.
Swiftly moving past Cassandra, Maeve assumed a fighting stance, her every muscle tensing with focused intent. Drawing her fist back as her body twisted to gather momentum, she channeled the tension of the moment into the powerful swing she unleashed upon the man.
The impact was fierce & swift, as it connected with the man's jaw he flew backwards through the air, colliding with a nearby store sign. The immediate silence that followed seemed to amplify the force of the blow, leaving the unruly man sprawled and unconscious, the hushed witnesses stunned by the unexpected turn of events.
As the man's friends rushed over to attend to him, two of the men picked him up on both sides and slung his arms over their shoulders. One among them bowed and offered a hurried apology before the group hastily retreated. Maeve, still brimming with a mixture of frustration and indignation, couldn't help but voice her contempt.
"What a creep!" she exclaimed.
With Cassandra's anger now subsided, she looked at Maeve with a mixture of curiosity and bewilderment. She sought an understanding of the impulsive intervention.
"Why?.... Why did you do that for me? The man clearly offended me, yet you struck him down on my behalf... why?" Cassandra's inquiry reflected a genuine attempt to unravel the motives behind Maeve's decisive action.
"He just really pissed me off, that's all," Maeve responded, her tone reflecting a mix of exasperation and defiance.
Eager to redirect the focus, she took Cassandra's hand "Come, let's go see our movie" she said as she led her through the bustling shopping district.
As they navigated through the lively shopping district, Cassandra found her gaze irresistibly drawn to Maeve. Despite being a formidable sorceress with vast magical abilities, she was momentarily captivated by the fact that a seemingly non-magical human had valiantly defended her honor without any prompting. This unexpected display of protection left Cassandra perplexed and introspective.
In the midst of the bustling crowd, her mind whirred with contemplation. Why did this simple act of defense resonate so deeply within her? The sincerity and voluntary nature of Maeve's actions seemed to strike a chord within Cassandra, stirring emotions that defied her understanding.
