Chapter 4 - Echoes

The bustling road above slough a sub in New Xylon. an intricate tapestry of transportation. Air cars, carriers, and shuttles weaved through the airspace with precision and grace, like a symphony of movement. The air cars, sleek and aerodynamic, zipped through the lanes effortlessly. Carriers, massive and imposing, glided with majestic elegance, their cargo bays filled with goods from distant lands. Shuttles, nimble and agile, darted between the larger vessels, ferrying passengers to their destinations.

In the midst of this dazzling display, a shabby air car protruded like a relic from another time. Its rusted metal frame spoke of its age, as if it had been assembled a century ago. The paint, faded and chipped, revealed hints of its former luster.

Within the confines of the shabby air car, a white haired teenager could be seen zoning out, not paying attention to the road and letting the AI automation run according to it's programming as the air car drove to her desired destination.

Suddenly, a series of alarms blared within the shabby air car, cutting through the vibrant atmosphere and waking up the teenager. The cockpit filled with flashing lights, warning the lady of imminent danger. The shrill sounds echoed through the metallic shell, creating an unsettling symphony that disrupted the harmony of the bustling road. Panic surged within her, but she remained steadfast, her hands gripping the controls with unwavering determination.

A sleek air car, speeding relentlessly through the airspace, overloaded it's thrusters which cause it to lose its trajectory and run into the lady's fragile air car. The impact sent shockwaves rippling through the shabby vehicle, causing its already frail structure to buckle and groan. Metal screeched against metal as the air cars intertwined in a chaotic dance of destruction. Within a matter of seconds, the lady's beloved air car was caught in the merciless grip of the collision, teetering on the edge of oblivion.

As the shabby air car threatened to disintegrate under the strain, the lady unleashed a last-ditch effort to save herself. Knowing the poor quality of the materials that composed her aging vehicle, she activated the eject mechanism. With a surge of energy, the air car split into millions of burning particles. Amidst this dazzling display, a bubble-like force field formed around the lady's cockpit, encasing her in a protective cocoon.

With a violent jolt, the cockpit, now enveloped in the bubble field, crash-landed atop a high-rise building. Glass shattered and concrete exploded as the impact reverberated through the structure.

The towering high-rise building stood with a menacing presence, its apex marred by the aftermath of a devastating crash. At the very top, a deep, jagged crater had formed, a testament to the violent impact that had taken place.

Within the shattered cockpit, the remnants of what was once a sleek and mighty machine now lay in ruin. The metallic skeleton had been twisted and deformed, wires exposed and sparking with residual energy. Broken glass from shattered displays glimmered in the dim light.

With surgical precision, the AGT-/T4 ambulance maneuvered closer to the mangled cockpit. Its low arm laser hummed to life, emitting a soft glow as it caressed the wreckage. The beam cut through the twisted metal with ease, melting away the obstacles that prevented access to the interior. Slowly, methodically, it meticulously tore open the cockpit.

As the laser worked its magic, the ambulance crew peered anxiously into the scene before them. They braced themselves, their faces hidden beneath protective gear as they swiftly extracted the blood-covered teenager from the wreckage.

Once securely outside the wreckage, the crew wasted no time. In a seamless transition, they initiated immediate medical intervention. Oxygen hissed into the cabin, enveloping the injured teen in a life Field. Monitors beeped rhythmically, tracking vital signs and ensuring stability.

With the teenager safely secured, the ambulance gracefully ascended from the top of the crumbling high-rise building. Beyond the confines of the cityscape, it soared into the open sky, carrying the cargo to the nearest hospital.

The workers stood amidst the sea of shoppers, clad in their work uniforms that served as both armor and identity. Their attire, a sleek fusion of form and function, consisted of fitted black jackets adorned with glowing insignias. Embedded microfiber fabric adjusted to the body's temperature, ensuring comfort during the long hours on their feet. Silver accents ran across the shoulders, a symbol of their commitment to the mart's efficiency and precision.

As two female workers diligently restocked the shelves in the bustling super mart, they exchanged snippets of conversation between their tasks. Their voices carried a mix of exhaustion, frustration, and a hint of the hope that kept them going.

Elizabeth sighed, her weary eyes fixed on the meager paycheck she had just received. "Can you believe this? We work so hard, yet they pay us so little. It's disheartening."

Natalie nodded in agreement, her voice filled with resignation. "I know, right? It feels like we're stuck in a never-ending cycle. We deserve better."

Amidst the stacks of merchandise, Elizabeth brightened up. "Hey, remember when my daughter Salle won the science fair last week? It was such a proud moment for me. She's my source of happiness, you know?"

Natalie smiled warmly, her eyes shining with pride too. "Oh, I remember! Your daughter is incredibly talented. My own daughter's art exhibition is coming up next month. Seeing her pursue her passion brings me so much joy."

Elizabeth's laughter echoed through the air as her friend tried to imitate the stone face of their superior.

But suddenly, the rhythmic flow of their conversation was disrupted by a comm ring. The melodious sound of her comm in the bustling super mart. she reached for the device and answered the WHs server call.

As she answered the call, her voice trembled, barely audible above the hum of surrounding conversations. On the other end, a somber yet gentle voice belonged to Dr. Johnson, one of the doctors of Slough. His words fell heavily upon her ears, echoing through the depths of her soul.

"Ms. Elizabeth, I regret to inform you of a grave incident. Your daughter, Emily, was involved in a fatal car accident. We did everything we could to save her, but...I'm truly sorry, We moved her into the Emerald ward and we have managed to.... for now."

Elizabeth's hands involuntarily clutched her chest, her breath escaping in short gasps. Time seemed to stand still as the weight of Dr. Johnson's words settled upon her, plunging her world into a darkness she had never known. The doctor's voice softened as he offered words of solace, little sparks of light trying to pierce through the overwhelming darkness enveloping her.

"I understand this is a devastating blow, Ms. Elizabeth Please know that our entire team doing their utmost to save Emily. She did not suffer any brain damage cause she managed to eject the cockpit.

" Thank you".

With despair etching deep lines onto her face, Marie thanked Dr. Johnson, her voice a mere whisper, before ending the call. The café seemed to have transformed into an eerie void where silence and sorrow mingled.

Her eyes, brimming with tears, met Natalie's gaze across the table. In that moment, words failed her, and all she could do was reach out to her dear friend for solace, for an anchor to hold onto in her sea of despair.

Natalie's face a canvas of compassion, tenderly embraced Marie. No words were spoken; none were needed. In that embrace, Marie found the strength to let go, to release her anguish, her pain. Natalie's arms became a sanctuary, allowing Marie to weep and mourn as her shattered heart began the painful process of healing.

Natalie gasped, her hand instinctively reaching out to support her friend, she had the comm call cause Elizabeth left the line open. "Oh my goodness, Emily Is going to be alright?"

Natalie wrapped her arms around Elizabeth, providing a comforting embrace. Her voice was gentle and soothing. "We'll be here for you, Elizabeth. Lean on us, lean on me. We'll get through this together. Your daughter is strong, just like her mother. We'll support you every step of the way."
