Chereads / The Chronicles of Ken / Chapter 34 - Last Day of Vacation

Chapter 34 - Last Day of Vacation

*KEN'S POV*

I was tired. My clones seemed to cause me a lot of trouble, and my powers even more so. I was in the movie theater when I got the emergency call.

The only problem was that I knew my clone was in trouble before the call. I had fallen asleep during a movie and had gotten what I thought at the time was memories.

My Jayden clone was in a wearhouse and didn't know how to get a hold of me or the others. I had thought about the emergency button on the side of the phone we got and in turn so did he.

I saw him push the button, but I was confused because I hadn't gotten an emergency call. I watched him fight on the occasion thinking about something he should do...and in turn he did it.

I didn't pay much attention to it. It wasn't the first time something like this happened. They were me so it made sense at the time.

I watched as my clone got his back sliced, then I was awoken by a couple that was next to me...and the pain. My phone had been going off and was disturbing the others, and the feeling a blade slicing across my back was fresh. I was having an internal crisis and had little time to process it.

To my knowledge I didn't have the hive mind item equipped. Instead of dwelling on this I filled the room with my killing intent and summoned my Ronin loadout.

With a wave of my hand I wiped out any memories they had of me and used telekinesis to move them back to their seats.

I entered the portal and locked onto my clone. I was pissed, pissed that my second to last day was fucked because of my clone. Pissed because my powers were doing new shit.

Looking back I wonder if I had summoned any items that would have allowed me too erase any memories and use telekinesis. I don't remember doing so.

After I was done disposing of the Shadows I went back to my clone and dispelled him and resommoned him with the Yomi loadout, in private of course. I was mad not stupid.

The problem was that I summoned him with the Yomi loadout without changing from my Ronin loadout. This had many indications some bad, some good none of which I wanted to deal with.

One day.

That's all I had left of my vacation. I spent most of it babysitting and helping out the clones, then I helped my Ryu clone then my Jayden clone.

Now all I had was one day. This was going to be my day. My NORMAL day, no powers, no excessive eating, no disguises, no teleportation, just...a normal day.

I was at an apartment that I was renting. One bed one bath it was small but nice. It was a place that I went and rested at whenever I could.

It had a small laptop that I used for gaming and movies, a bed, a table, a chair and...that's about it. I of course had the essentials like tooth paste and other daily care products, but this was temporary.

Yeah...temporary.

I had a plan for today and it started with a dinner a few streets down. The walk was nice, it had rained the night before so it had a nice wet smell. The streets were mostly empty, the occasional early morning runner passing me.

I had drawn a few looks from those around me, my looks not exactly common. I decided to ignore them and be on my way. It took a little but I made it to the restaurant, empty for the most part. It was the middle of the week after all.

I sat down at a booth and was soon approached by a waiter. Middle aged brown hair brown eyes and slightly fake smile. She was nice and took my order without problem.

Waffles, eggs over easy, bacon, and hash browns with coffee. Simple and good, it took about ten minutes for it to be ready and about fifteen for me to finish.

I sat there for another five before I moved again. Paying for the meal and leaving a ten dollar tip I moved towards the bus station. It stopped near a mall.

The bus took about thirty minutes with two other stops before I reached my destination. I had a few people look at me but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I overheard many thinking that I dyed my hair and wore contacts.

The mall was slightly more busy, again weekday so not many people out and about. I went from store to store mostly looking at movies and video games but occasionally looking at clothing.

I found some movies that weren't online and I also went to a few stores so I could get a new laptop. My old one was...borrowed and I would like to get one of my own and strip my current one for parts and maybe upgrade my new one.

It was a little past midday and I wanted to go to my apartment and drop off my stuff before heading out for a late lunch.

The trip back was just as eventless as my trip there. Sure there were some people who eyed my bags but eventually gave up when I stared them down.

My choice for lunch was a relatively expensive burger joint. They had a burger that had a slice of brisket ontop that caught my attention.

The walk there was a bit longer than the walk to the diner but not by much. A lot more people but not pact. The service was nice and since it was nice out I elected to take an outdoors table.

The wait was about fifteen minutes and the burger was big. It came with a generous amount of fries with a chocolate shake for dessert and a soda too drink.

I took a bite of the burger it wa-*BOOOOM*

I nearly squished the burger in my hands. I looked up and saw a space ship hovering over the city.

WHAT! THE! FUCK! I chose this no name small city for a fucking reason!

NO!

Turning back to my food I chose to ignore the incoming invasion and focus on my food. People around me screamed and rushed out of the restaurant.

I took another bit of my burger followed by a drink of my soda. The sound gun fire and screams filled the air, not all of them human.

I understood some of what the aliens were saying, it was some words and phrases. I could sum up what they were saying, but I couldn't repeat word for word.

I had to check my ears and toung to make sure that I hadn't subconsciously summoned my earnings or toung piercing. Finding nothing only further soured my mood.

The streets were empty and the sounds of a battle carried on. I had finished my burger and was finishing the last of my fries when the building across the street had its doors blow up from a green orb of energy.

I had copied some stuff but I pushed it towards the back of my mind. Focus returning to the few fries and half drunken shake I decided to polish off my food before they made it this way.

I had just placed down my empty cup when a blur crashed into my table. I closed my eyes in frustration and took several deep breaths to calm down.

Getting up I opened my eyes and was about to walk away when eyes that seemed so familiar yet so different met mine.

They had nothing in common, one was a child with white hair, pale skin, red eyes and a horn.

The other was a teen, red firey hair, orange tan skin, glowing green eyes and no horn.

But their eyes.

That same pain, and helplessness. The same willingness to fight if for no other reason than to show that they aren't willing to submit to the fate that others try to subject them to, no matter how useless it seems.

Those eyes met mine, and a little girl overlapped the teen that was infront of me.

"Are you going to hurt me?"

"No I promise, NOBODY will ever hut you again."

Hot metal was pressed against my cheek an alien screaming at me. Submit, prisoner. Those words were used many times as well as destruction and death.

*SQUELCH*

I blinked and turned towards the alien. My sword had pierced its skull. I was in my Ronin loadout and I hadn't noticed.

"Ken I don't want to be here anymore, c-can we leave?"

"Of course Eri."

Charging towards the nearest alien I swung over head with my whirlwind sword sending out a blade of wind that bisected three aliens.

Another shot several times at me only for said shots to enter a portal and reamerge behind the shooter.

"Ken w-whats this?"

"That's a candy apple. Do you want one?"

Telaporting behind one that was shooting from above I cut off its wings letting it plumit to its death before moving to my next opponent.

Small portals opened behind the aliens so I could let out air slashes that slit throats and cut off limbs. The swarm of aliens came towards me, their blood pooled around me as I cut them down.

"Hey K-Ken can we go out?"

"Sure Eri."

Multiple large portals surrounded the space ship blocking it from moving. Gripping my sword I began to add boosting items and charging it with my energy storage.

The wind roared around me as I got my attack ready. The winds ground against each other making sharp blades ready to obey my will.

A swing of my sword and the space ship was sliced from multiple angles turning into scrap. The core of the ship began to detonate when I opened a portal and sent it to the middle of the dessert several hundred miles above the ground.

I turned towards Eri hand outstretched.

"Ken...you guys won't leave me right? When this is over we'll go back...like before."

"..."

The sound of a jet filled the dead silence that my massacre brought. "Green Lantern, who are these guys? And what do they want?"

Green Lantern: "Gordainians! They work for...What the fuck?!?!"

I was snapped out of my thoughts when I overheard the exclamation my enhanced hearing allowing me to hear it from afar. I saw that the person that I thought was Eri reformed into the teen who was most likely Starfire.

Her cuffed hands were hesitantly reaching out for my mine. Turning towards the jet, and green floating orb I realized who was most likely here and jerked my hand away startling Starfire.

I took a step back quickly looking around. My eyes soon found hers again. Hope, that's what I saw. Hope that I couldn't give.

Turning around I made a portal and left.
