Chapter 4 - Heart to Heart: Let the truth in

Hera was shocked to say the least, she knew that she only known this couple for about ten minutes but still. The fact that a significant other would kill their beloved was...not as uncommon as one might think. Hera herself had read cases of this in her academy as part of Psychology.

The shock slowly gave way to confusion and theorizing.

"Sarglan didn't give off any malicious intentions." Hera thought to herself, then again, a good and competent killer would know how to mask their aura. An Angel can read anybody aura and get a feel for their personality and motives, even Novice Angels can do this. However, this alone isn't efficient enough to solve this case.

"Why would he do this?" Hera asked of Velven who simply walked right past her and sat on the couch.

Hera tried again. "I know this is a sensitive subject but Velven if you have any knowledge that can help me figure out a solution, please tell me." Hera told her gently.

Velven looks at Hera with anger in her eyes. Who the hell do she think she is?

"Oh sure, I'm just bustling with information about why my husband would send an elven bitch to kill me, i just got to pull it out of my ass." Velven mocked with a grin.

"Sarcasm doesn't help anyone and i would appreciate it if you don't do that. Velven I want to help you but if you're not going to cooperate, the only thing i can do is get Sarglan's side of the story. And i doubt you would like that. So let try again, do you know why he would do this?" Hera asked firmly, her hands clenching into fists. Despite them being friends for a long time, Furiosa was still surprised at how forceful Hera could be, at least when it came to others' well-being.

Velven nodded. Caught off guard a little by Hera's outburst.

"Look I'm sorry alright, but i genuinely have no idea why he would do this." Velven said sadly to her.

Hera gently laid a hand on the Harpy's shoulder, Velven almost flinched at this but let the hybrid do it.

"I understand how tough this must be for you. I promise you I will solve this." Hera told Velven seriously with a determined look on her face that quite honestly scared Velven a little. The Harpy could only nod.

Hera turned to Furiosa. The succubus looked toward her with a worried expression as she gestured Hera to go upstairs.

"I'm sorry Velven, but is it alright to go upstairs so we can talk behind your back about this situation and what led to it?" Furiosa inquired, smiling as Hera was flabbergasted that she would be so blatant about it.

Velven laughed and flipped off Furiosa who did the same causing them to both to bust out in laughter.

"No point because the walls are so thin, but you two can go upstairs, i need to be by myself for a little while."

Furiosa nodded and went upstairs and Hera followed along. Velven sighed and felt a presence next to her, she turn her head to see Devilla, who simply looking at her with pity.

Velven stared at the Goddess of Love, perplexed by her sad demeanor.

Devilla was staring at her with such intensity it made Velven look to the ground, some unforeseen shame grabbed at her heart even though she hadn't done anything.

"Do you love Sarglan?" She asked suddenly. Velven would usually say yes without a second thought. Velven clenched her talons into the already damaged couch.

"I...don't know." Velven admitted.

Devilla smiled at her, which made the Harpy feel very uneasy. Despite Devilla's warm demeanor, the room itself felt even colder than when she was fighting against that Elven Bitch.

"You called your husband boring, correct?" Devilla said simply, startling Velven. How did she know about that?

"Yes...i have." Velven admitted hesitantly.

The room began to morph before Velven's very eyes. The living room that was once damaged by the brawl of yesterday became the old living room where Velven saw her and Sarglan just discussing an idea that she had. The Harpy felt her stomach turned as she remembers this conversation.

"Come on it will be fun!" Velven, well her past self said, practically begging Sarglan who looked uncomfortable.

"I just don't like the idea of an open relationship, It feels...weird." Sarglan admitted, causing past Velven to pout.

"But come on, we both be getting action. It's not like I'm going to leave you for someone else." Past Velven pleaded her case and future Velven cringed at how Sarglan's face fell and how she was acting.

"Why would i say that?" Velven herself questioned as she looked at her past self.

"I don't know, why would you? Maybe you already flirted with the idea of cheating on your spouse?" Devilla theorized, a smile formed on her face as Velven turned to her to say something only to keep her mouth closed.

"This is an educated guess, but I'm assuming I'm correct?" Devilla asked of the harpy turning her head away. Keeping her eyes glued to the damaged wall.

"I just wanted him to pay more attention to me." Velven admitted, feeling the weight on her chest ease up a little.

"And why didn't you tell your loved one that?" Devilla asked her, the venom dripping off her sweet voice made Velven's heart raced.

"Because he always working so hard. I feel so horrible when I see him come home from work all tired and bruised and sometimes I just get angry when all he want to do is relax at the house with me so i let him know. I was always more into clubbing and dancing and yeah I know relationships require sacrifices but do we have to sacrifice all the things that bring us joy? Should we sacrifice thr parts of ourselves that make us whole just to make a relationship work? That not to mention how bad our sex has g-" The Harpy shut her mouth but in her heart, she knew it was pointless.

Devilla placed a soothing hand on Velven's shoulder.

"You two have a clear communication problem." Devilla said soothingly.

"He sent an assassin to kill me....with all due respect my sexy Goddess of Love." Velven said with an attitude that she quickly corrected mid-sentence with that saving throw of respect to the Goddess.

"He did, but not to kill you." Devilla said with a coy smile.

"What?"

"He is just like you in the sense that he is rather stupid. But that's love for you. He will explain it in full when you have both calm down." Devilla told her simply.

Just like how she appears without a word, she vanishes the same way. Velven simply flopped back on the couch, mulling over the events of the past two days-no, the past years.
