After exiting a building, Zhang Xian leaned against a lamppost, frowned, and took drags of a cigarette.
This place was the residence of the person he was looking for. He had just been upstairs, but no one was there, so he waited here to see if the target would show up.
Time trickled away unnoticed, and as the stars faded, the dawn of a new day arrived.
Zhang Xian still stood under the lamppost, his face pallid.
Many people had been in and out of the building during the night. Zhang Xian had checked them out, but none was the one he was looking for. He couldn't help but doubt if he had been duped.
After waiting a while longer, a woman came down from the building. He immediately approached and asked, "Mam, I would like to ask you something. Is it convenient?"
"What is it?" the woman asked.
Zhang Xian said, "Do you live here, do you know the owner of room 503?"
