Episode(14)- Guardian

SOVEREIGN OF DEATH~(14)

[Kanata Nagisa–(Lv.40)]

[Class– Ruler of Death]

[Trait – Art of Death(EX-2), Master(EX), Reluctant(EX) ]

[Mana–5350]

"Skills"

[Perception(A)] [Swordplay(S)] [Martial Arts(A+)] [Kanata Footwork(S)] [Body Control(S-)] [Oneness(D)] [Mana UP(B-)] [Weapon Craft(C)]

Nagisa sat down to ponder while the status screen hovered before his eyes. He was lazily resting his elbows on his knees while holding up his head in his hand and going over a few thoughts quietly.

He was going over the process of leveling up. Although he killed so many wolves and gained so much 'XP' he could only sigh.

Looking at the level '40' didn't give him a sense of accomplishment in the slightest. He wasn't too dissatisfied but he was disappointed.

You would think that all that fighting would instantly boost your level immediately. However he could only sigh.

Still, he did get gains out of the fighting. Because he had to constantly use both perception and swordplay while fighting, his two skills increased by a rank and were no longer (A-) or (S-) but had become (A) and (S) rank completely.

Of course the next step was to get them to (+) rank but Nagisa was already satisfied.

Thanks to his proficiency increasing his understanding in the way of the sword and perception had reached heights he never knew existed. It was like he had suddenly gained an endless surge of enlightenment after one training session and it was enough to fill his hunger after such a bloody battle.

Another skill he had nothing but praise for was Mana up. It was simply one of the best skills he could have ever hoped for.

A normal person would level up and gain a certain amount of mana based on their class. If they had a combat class their mana increase would be insignificant and if they had a mage class their mana increase would at least be 5-10 units per level.

However with the Mana up skill Nagisa could gain 20-100 units per level up. And the best thing was that everytime he leveled up the amount of permanent increase would rise as well.

For example when he was level 20 it was only a small amount but as a level forty necromancer his mana units were already close to 6000 units. If this didn't make him want to dance then what would?

With this skill, by the time he was level 70 or 80 he wouldn't have to worry about his mana becoming empty no matter what skill he used. By then he would already have close to if not exactly 10,000 units of mana.

At any rate he was happy for the monster now compared to before. That was because he wasn't sure whether he could farm 'XP' this easily when he exited the dungeon so he had a thought. Why not use this situation to become stronger now rather than hurrying to leave?

'It'd be too embarrassing if I survived this dungeon but was weaker than a normal person when I exit the dungeon'

Also, if the dungeon was cleared after he left then what if the 'XP' gain was smaller? Even if he came back after exiting it'd just be a waste. So he decided to just enjoy his predicament since he was no longer in danger.

.....

.....

.....

Nagisa went deeper and deeper and every floor he went through there was a vast difference. Not just the number of monster but their individual strength constantly increased as well.

If not for the increase in his level and skills Nagisa knew he would be at a disadvantage facing these monsters. He was glad he took the time to clear every floor so he would level up before advancing.

However thankful he was, Nagisa was a bit peeved that he kept only meeting wolves. Although he knew the theme of floor 21-29 and even the boss level 30 would probably only be wolves and nothing more, he was already used to the wolves movements, patterns and their attacks at this point he could kill them with his eyes closed.

It wasn't that he was cocky but it was the truth. He once killed a wolf while taking a p*ss and it was so nonchalant that he didn't even notice until the system notice rang out.

Still, they were good training partners to increase his reflexes thanks to their wild and erratic movements. Nagisa had a good time taking these pups as wet stones to sharpen his skills but he couldn't help but get bored again.

He felt like an energetic sports geek bullying the elderly in soccer. If not for the ring of the system tell him that he gained XP for every kill he seriously might have just walked pass every wolf he saw.

But, even if it was just boredom he wouldn't dare give up a fresh bag of XP.

He hoped honestly that floor 31 and onwards wouldn't be wolves. Although he wasn't too sure of the number of floors here in this dungeon it was likely more than 50.

'And if that was the case then floors 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 would have bosses'

Nagisa could only speculate right now and had no proof. If he had been transported to the first floor firstly then he would have known the layout of the dungeon. But the shrewd pigeon didn't want to give him a chance and directly sent him to a higher floor to ensure his death.

Honestly he had a lot of question but now wasn't the time to ask them. Instead, he could only observe the situation and gain intel piece by piece for now.

Nagisa had just come out of the passage way when suddenly.

Swoosh!*

Two ice stakes flew towards him like bullets quickly taking him out of his trance.

The two stakes streaked across the icy plains and seemed about to pierce through Nagisa, but the next moment Nagisa drew his sword and the two attacks were cleaved easily.

Nagisa let out a breath. Frost from the cold left his mouth as Nagisa looked around.

As the frosty winds blew his silver blue hair around as his golden pupils glance around and he realized that he had somehow made it to the 29th floor before he even knew it.

He had been so lost in his thoughts that he didn't even pay attention to his surroundings and just killed wolves wherever he saw them and ended up here all of a sudden.

'Well, this is good too'

After this floor was the boss room which finally meant he could be free of the wolves and he was elated by this fact alone.

He glanced at the white wolves standing at the edge of the icy snow field and recognized it as the guardian guarding the boss room.

As soon as it met his gaze, the wolf howled. Several thick ice stakes formed around it and rotated at high speed with power even faster than a drill. It was obvious that anyone hot by this would be punched full of holes before they could even scream.

But Nagisa was different. The moment these were fired Nagisa's eyes followed each and every one of them and sliced or parried all the stakes that came at him.

In a few seconds, All the stakes had been cut and parried as Nagisa spun through the air before landing. But he didn't stop as the moment his toes crunched the snow at his feet he bent his knees and shot towards the lesser mob wolves ignoring the guardian.

It would be better to kill the guardian first? Then what about when the wolves lose their leader and start to scatter? Nagisa was too lazy to go after them but he knew that he needed the XP so he decided to target them first regardless whether he was attacked by the guardian or not.

The guardian also noticed Nagisa's intention and tried to stop him by barraging him with ice attacks but Nagisa grinned and avoided them with ease.

With a boom, a cloud of snow covered the area blocking view. It was unknown whether the attack had hit Nagisa or not, but a few seconds before the guardian could feel relief a laugh escaped the cloud of smoke and soon Nagisa's figure was seen flying through the air.

He wasn't even harmed by the attacks at all.

The guardian howled loudly and used its mana to generate several ice stakes at once.

Nagisa smiled feeling that it was underestimating him a little too much. The moment the stakes were shot, he twisted in the air and used the stakes as footholds while using his footwork to move from one stake to another.

The guardian also saw this and was in a panic so it summoned a huge ice stake at once and fired it. Nagisa however wasn't even flustered and let out a breath. Then, with his final step he moved as fast as a ghost.

His figured blurred and the next moment he appeared he had already cut the stake into several dozen fragments.

The guardian was stunned. Nagisa landed and slid against the snow before looking up and checking the location of his next targets. The guardian who was still in a shock couldn't even react and could only watch as the human hacked his minions to death while hearing their whimpers before they deid.

He was merciless. But Nagisa was only glad with the messages that rang out in his mind constantly reminding him of how he leveled up.

'Grrr!!'

Hearing the angry growl next to him Nagisa turned towards the wolf and saw it giving him a menacing glare.

Nagisa smiled and swung the blood off his blade before facing the wolf and hooking his finger chiding it to attack.

The wolf roared in anger and the next moment Nagisa's vision was completely filled with ice stakes. It was unlike before as Nagisa could see hundred and even thousands before him.

But instead of panicking, a grin surfaced on his face. No one knew what he was thinking, but as the countless ice stakes closed the distance Nagisa slowly looked over at the wolf that also coldly glared back at him.

The wolf was sure that even the human before him wouldn't survive, but the next moment he was stunned. Nagisa, surrounded by the ice stakes swung his sword. He slashed, he sliced, he parried and twisted his body it was like a dance and he moved. No matter how many attacks came at once he could turn them into fragments or divert their trajectory away from hitting him. It was an amazing sight to see.

But the wolf couldn't allow this to happen and increased the amount of ice stakes. However Nagisa who was under siege smiled at the moment. He shot in the direction that had newly opened up and created a path with the sword instantly breaking away from the barrage of attacks.

The wolf backed up gliding against the snow. Nagisa clicked his tongue but as he saw the guardian controlling the stakes to home in on him he turned and instantly hacked away at them. But at the same time this gave the guardian more time to summon more attacks as spike grew from the ground.

Nagisa jumped and at the same time more flying stakes attacked him throwing him off balance.

This time for sure, the guardian was sure he could end this.

Yet, In Nagisa's eyes, the moment he lost balance in the air he stopped playing around. Time in his golden colored pupils slowed down until it seemed like it was about to stop. Nagisa, whose body was still being blown off balance twisted his body to landed correctly while sheathing his sword.

With mana surging through his body and into the sword, Nagisa closed his eyes and concentrated. He concentrated until the mana in his sword and body was enough to slice through even a mountain. The very moment his feet landed on the ground the slowed time returned to normal. Ice stakes and spike were surrounding him sure to kill him if they struck, however what the guardian didn't expected was what happened next.

Boom!

A surge of energy exploded and Nagisa dashed through the snowy plains like a streak of lightning. His speed was so fierce that everything in his path instantly turned to fragments after he passed by them.

As Nagisa closed the distance, the wolf was panicked but still managed to summon and Ice shield. Nagisa thought it was trying to retreat after using this to delay him so he hurriedly closed the distance and swung his sword. As a result, the ice shield that looked sturdy enough to block a hammer strike was torn open like paper.

However the wolf wasn't there, Nagisa thought it hid itself but was surprised to see when it tried to attack him from the side.

He dodged its lunge at him then swung his sword behind him. A clang came from behind as he blocked an ice stake before he swung his sword left to right again cutting down two more ice stakes.

Nagisa looked at the wolf and shook his head feeling that this was boring. He ready his stance to kill the guardian, but before he could even move something strange happened.

The guardian started to multiply until it split from one to eight.

 [Wha-!?]

Nagisa was dumbfounded. He wondered where all these wolves came from but using perception he realized that none of these wolves had an ounce of mana in them.

Looking at them closely he didn't even see the flame of their soul burning and that only meant one thing.

'Clones!'

Nagisa laughed.

[Trying to trick me?]

His golden pupils lit up and his figure vanished. The clones looked one with wide opened eyes as the next second the ground where I was had exploded and sent the snow along with them flying.

On the other hand, Nagisa had already locked onto his target.

The guardian ran with all its might to escape, but it was useless. As soon as it looked back to see what casted such a large shadow over it, the guardian was met with my blade and died in a single slash.

...

....

....

...

Nagisa sheathed his sword the moment the fight was over. He glanced around curiously.

Unlike where he had to go through passage after passage and kill multiple monsters, this time he just had to fight in a large space and kill a single entity.

It was a bit quick and Nagisa was skeptical whether something would rush out and attack him but nothing happened even after waiting a few minutes.

Upon seeing that nothing happened, Nagisa lost interest and walked over to the corpse of the guardian.

Now that he had the chance to create a new sword there was no way he would pass it up just like that. With that in mind, he did the same as he had when he created his first katana.

Soon, a sword appeared and Nagisa quickly read the description.

『Frostily Cold Wolf Slayer sword』

[Rank: Unique]

[Description: Uses the Ice element and can launch ranged attacks however there is a cool down time of 2 minutes for each range attack. Otherwise, it causes 'Frost' effect to activate in an opponent's body. When using this sword your resistance to ice element also increases to 20%]

[Requirements to use: Nagisa Kanata]

It was just as highly ranked as the first one but Nagisa was confused. Were high ranked weapons this cheap that they were being produced so easily? But he didn't dwell on it much after shaking his head. His trait was at a super high level so that might have been the reason so there was no reason to worry too much.

However, Nagisa's first sword was rare while this was tagged as unique.

He wondered if there was a difference but thinking about it made him realize that there were ranks among swords. If that was the case then this new sword was more than likely stronger than his last.

After nodding his head to his conclusion, Nagisa strapped the sword at his waist with a radiant smile. With two sword he wondered how cool he looked but unfortunately he didn't have a mirror and his phone didn't have battery either so he could only sigh.

Soon enough, Nagisa's expression became serious and he walked up to the boss room door. He gave it a pensive look while he tensed up in preparation to fight the boss.

[I wonder what kind of monster is behind this door?]

He didn't ponder for long. It wasn't like him to think too much because that would just cause him endless worry. Since he would need to face the monster either way then he would just get it done.
