January 5th, 2000. The day that everything happened at once.
Flickering blue portals that seemingly led to the kind of land you see in fantasy began popping up all around the globe. Top scientists were working on deciphering what they were and why they appeared, but it was a question that science didn't have the answer to. And to add to the growing list of worries, was the very first Day Break.
Nowadays, it's known that if a Gate is left unattended for too long, it will trigger a Day Break, where waves upon waves of monsters begin piling out of their portal. But back when they first appeared, it was completely unknown that this event would occur. As such, nobody was prepared for it. An approximate two billion, fifty-three million and four hundred thousand lives were lost during the five month period that it took to calm the first Day Break. A catastrophe unmatched to this day. However, even now, the first Day Break hasn't ended.
When it was calmed, the monsters were contained and left to scavenge the land until they naturally died. But they never did die. It seems that the monsters don't have to eat or drink to survive, meaning that one of the only ways for them to die is by human hands. Unfortunately, by the time this was realised, there were too many of them for humans to fight against. And so, a portion of the Earth is now home to these creatures. The Lost Region.
After all of this, people needed a break to reconfigure and learn how to adapt to these changes. However, the world is a cruel place, and so they were never granted their well-earned break. Instead, more Gates kept popping up and soon, the second Day Break occurred. But this Day Break was a lot different to it's predecessor.
Strangely, the monsters that exited the Gates this time around weren't hostile. Instead, they were completely friendly and docile. These monsters weren't killed and, without a way back to their previous world, now reside on Earth with the humans. These monsters along with the humans now make up the three races; humans, elves and dwarves.
With the humans being the largest race by far, half of Earth was designated as 'the human kingdoms', while the 'elven unity' and 'dwarf council' shared the other half. For a short while, everything was peaceful. Humanity finally got it's break. That was until the elves and dwarves got sick of the humans.
You see, for the entire peaceful period, elves and dwarves had been sacrificing their own people to go and fight these Gates as the humans didn't have the power to at this point. But no matter how much they contributed to their new society, it seemed that the humans still looked down upon them. And so, they went as far as to wage a war with the humans. The war now known as the Shattered Concord.
This war transpired over a 50 year period, from 2010 to 2060, and a lot occurred over that period of time. The most notable thing being the discovery of abilities.
In 2015, when it appeared that all hope was lost for the human side of the war, people were getting desperate. After one successful heist of old elven books, it was discovered that from the ages of 5 - 15, it was customary for every elf to meditate for at least half an hour a day in order to form their Core. Once an elf's Core was formed, they could then access their ability. It was decided that at least trying it out was worth a shot, just for the small chance that humans could also cultivate some form of ability to even the playing field. But then the unexpected happened. It actually worked.
Now with abilities on their side, the humans managed to push back the onslaught slightly. However, it was quickly realised that this war was a losing battle for both sides. And so in 2060, the main battle stopped and a negotiation was worked out. The planet would be shared equally between the three races.
Nowadays, we're still in the middle of the most peaceful period that Earth has seen in a very long time. Yes, there is still a bit of lingering discrimination from one race to another. But most people of the three races have accepted the fact that they were pretty much all in the wrong. No, humans shouldn't have looked down on the other two races, but was waging a war a bit too far to start with, probably.
Most people have realised this, and moved on. Plus, this isn't some story about a soldier who was involved in the Shattered Concord. No, this is my story. The story of the blue god, Keizo Lloyd.
