Chapter 8 - Cure!

Kaen sat on his bed with Demios sitting opposite to him on the chair. Demios could appear in front of Kaen in ethereal form like a ghost or spirit just to talk to him.

Only Kaen could see Demios so it wouldn't be a problem.

Right now, Kaen was pondering on his next move while Demios just looked at him with a bored expression:

Now, I should do what is urgent first.

After recovering Demios from that cave, I am capable of taking over the Blake Barony easily, but that would just create unnecessary problems for me.

First, It is not so simple to take over a barony. I am an illegitimate child and have no right over the barony whatsoever unless my father left a will that will make me his heir.

If I simply use brute force to take over the barony, I'll have to face the Count of this estate.

I am not ready to face a full-face attack of a Count.

So taking over the barony is not worth it.

I am fifteen right now, It is the age at which normal children begin to sense mana, but if I reveal my strength of a 3-star knight, it would create problems.

Firstly, though I will become famous and will be called a genius throughout the Vradel Empire, that will also make me involved in empire politics.

The other Empires could also find me a hindrance and put an order to assassinate me to not let me fully develop.

That means I can't use my full strength in public as Kaen unless I am ready to deal with the politics and assassins.

But, out of all these, the most concerning issue is my mother!

I am fifteen right now and according to my memory, she died before I turned sixteen.

That means I only have atmost a year to find a cure to her illness unless I want to lose her again.

But how... I don't even know what her illness is.

Even in my past life, I couldn't find anything about that illness in the books I read in the royal library.

Also, there wasn't any other patient with similar symptoms to her.

It was truly weird as if her illness was not of this world.

I am sure I would have been able to cure it with my past magic powers but they are also gone.

What should I do, I don't think there is any alchemist or a healer nearby that is talented enough to cure her.

As Kaen was lost in thought with a tense expression hanging on his face, a realization dawned upon him:

"Nearby... nearby... nearby..." He murmured before looking up and staring at Demios.

"What?" Demios asked, becoming uncomfortable by the sudden stare that Kaen was giving him.

In response, Kaen's lips curled into a smile: "Yes, Why didn't I think of this before? I have a god in my room and I am looking for a cure in the mortal realm. Such foolishness..."

Joining his hands together, Kaen prayed while bowing his head: "O' Mighty Demon God! Help me cure my mother's illness with your vast powers!"

"Huh? Hey Kaen what are you doing?" Demios was confused by what was going on in Kaen's mind.

"Well, you remember about my mother passing away from an illness? She is alive right now and I need your help to cure her." Kaen expressed his intentions while scratching the back of his head in embarrassment.

Demios nodded: "Yeah, I remember her. You used to cry in your sleep while murmuring about her. To be honest, I felt a bit sad for you by how much pain you carried with you. You'll always apologize in your sleep about not being able to save her. If I can help, I will surely do it!"

"Really?" Kaen wasn't able to hide his joy and relief.

"Of course! But to help her, you'll have to make her touch the trident. When she is in contact with it, I'll check her condition and the illness she has. I should be able to find the cure after I diagnose her!"

Kaen nodded in understanding: "Alright, then let's do it right now!"

"Now?"

Grabbing the trident, Kaen replied firmly: "Yeah!"

Demios sighed in defeat and returned back inside the trident.

With the trident in his hand, Kaen rushed to his mother who was in the kitchen, preparing lunch for the two of them.

"Mother, I need you to hold this weapon!" Kaen firmly requested after stopping beside his mother.

"Not now Kaen, I am preparing the lunch!"

"Mother It will only take a second, just hold it with one hand. You can prepare the lunch with your other hand." Kaen insisted without backing down.

His mother sighed in defeat: "Okay since I only have to stir the stew, I can hold it for a second!"

She turned her gaze to the weapon for the first time since Kaen had appeared. Her attention was fully on cooking so she hadn't even glanced towards Kaen.

She thought that it would be a child's weapon and was ready to hold it, however, as soon as her gaze fell on the terrifying and huge trident in Kaen's hand, her eyes widened in horror.

"W-what is this thing? Kaen, get away from it, It is dangerous!"

A sense of dread and danger filled her entire body simply by looking at it.

"Don't worry Mother, this is a fake toy. It is not a weapon." Kaen lied through his teeth with an assuring smile before covering his hand in aura and pressing his hand against the middle blade of the Trident: "See, it is not even sharp!"

Seeing his hand not getting any sort of cut, his mother calmed down.

"Now Mother, Please hold it!" Kaen stretched out his hand to hand the trident over to his mother.

"Sigh, I don't know why you want me to hold this toy for you, but since it's you, I'll do it!"

His mother stretched out her hand before holding the trident with one hand along with Kaen holding it.

The trident was too heavy for his mother to hold alone and also, his lie of it being a toy will be exposed if he simply handed it over to her.

Holding the trident, Kaen's mother felt some foreign energy enter her body, however, since she wasn't a mana user, she couldn't tell the difference.

After a few minutes, Demios spoke directly in Kaen's mind through telepathy: "It's done!"
