Chapter 6 - LETTING HER GO

XERXES

I stood in my room facing the window where I could clearly see her crying bitterly with Nanan trying to console her. Her tears were upsetting Mac and I couldn't help but wonder how he could still feel affection towards someone who tried to kill our mate and our unborn child out of jealousy.

"Kamila is not our mate," he corrected "and between you and I, you know Kayden's not one who is jealous, we're the jealous ones."

"Why can't you just see through your obsessions? We were both there when she pushed Kamila down the stairs."

"Xerxes, what if she didn't do it? What if she's innocent and you are punishing her unjustly? Besides we didn't see her push Kamila down the stairs, we only saw her on top of the stairs."

"Mac, I know you think that slut is our mate but man you have to brace up and accept the truth that she is a murderer and we are not talking about this again."

"Even though you are hurt and are feeling so much pain in your heart right now and you can't explain why instead of being with Kamila you are here watching Kayden go?"

"Stop putting ideas in my head!" I growled hitting the wall with my fist.

"Xerxes, I'm just being honest."

"Thank you for your honesty but if you'll excuse me I have a wife to go check on." I finalized shutting him up as I marched to Kamila's room.

I saw Kamila lying helplessly on the bed. She was so still that I feared she might be dead.

"That fall couldn't have killed her, could it?" I asked Mac who remained silent. I heaved and moved closer and I saw her chest rise and fall. I felt my shoulders relax. I turned to the doctor. Who was packing up his things.

"How's she faring? The fall wasn't that bad was it?" I inquired calmly

"No my Lord, she survived it and so did the child," he announced and I turned to her again looking at her pale face. "But I fear she may encounter some challenges and might even lose the child if she does any hard work or stresses herself. Especially at this early stage of her pregnancy."

"Don't worry about that, she has maids who do everything for her," I assured him but he shook his head calmly and adjusted his glasses.

"That's not the only kind of stress a woman

can be under, alpha."

"What are you trying to say,"

"Your wife is under a lot of mental stress…" he said and paused. "At this stage, it is not only dangerous for her but also for the baby who is connected to her and feels every of her emotions."

"What could be the cause?"

"It could be fear, worry, or anxiety which is normal but if not taken care of early could become a problem. I have given her some sleeping pills to help her sleep well, it'll do her good."

"What can I do to help me?"

"Encourage her often and make her feel secure and loved." He advised and I nodded.

"I'll be back in the evening to check on her." The doctor promised taking a bow before leaving.

It's been three days since Kamila fell off the stairs and she had not opened her eyes. The doctor said she was fine but I'm beginning to suspect he just said that to save his head.

I moved closer And pulled a chair close to her bed and sat on it. I looked at her face intensely and I caressed her hand. I watched her chest rise and fall as it had become a new habit.

She was carrying my child, it's the least I can do after a maid I gave her almost killed her. I heaved as took my hand from hers placing it by her side.

I looked out of the window and I sighed. Though I pretended to have lost count and that it didn't bother me, I couldn't help but realize that it's also been three days since Kayden left.

I don't know where she is right now and regret and guilt flooded my heart as I remembered how she kept pleading with me. Oh God! I miss her boldness, her presence and her smell. Even though she is a weak omega, she was so daring. I couldn't have done wrong by sending her away, could I?

I am Alpha Xerxes, I reminded myself, I don't make mistakes. Yet, I would've been seeing her around if only she hadn't pushed Kamila. Why did she have to push Kamila down?

"She's innocent," Mac defended, only when Kayden is mentioned he reacts or speaks, other times he gives me the silent treatment.

"Mac, can we have a normal conversation for once? Please,"

"Normal conversation, huh…" he scoffed

"Yeah, like normal werewolves do, without fighting or arguing. I understand what you feel but you can't keep tormenting me like this, please."

"Okay, I don't mind." He announced but I knew he was preparing a bomb. A warm finger touched me gently, taking my attention from him and I looked immediately.

"Alpha," she called with a weak smile with her eyes half open

"Kamila…" I called back, taking her hand. "How are you feeling… are you in any pain?" I asked confused, almost stammering and she blinked. "The doctor just stepped out, give me a second." "Blake, get the doctor."

When I got to her and her eyes were closed. My heart missed a beat and I took my hand to her face. She stirred and opened her eyes, giving me the weak smile again.

"Stay with me Kamila, don't close your eyes," I pleaded not knowing what to do. All my life all I knew to do was to end lives, I have never known what it felt like to give life. But since I found out Kamila was with a child, a different and entirely new emotion imprisoned my heart, after her fall, I've been so confused. I know I don't deserve to be happy but Kamila didn't deserve to suffer.

I held her gaze till the doctor rushed in to check on her.

"She's fine and so is the baby, but like I said earlier, she shouldn't do any stressful work especially now. She should be given enough food and allowed to rest."

"I'll make sure of that." I assured him and he bowed before leaving.

Three maids led by Nanan walked into the room and I stood watching them. Nanan did her work diligently as a mother but not because she was happy. She lifted Kamila cautiously, taking off her dress. I thought they'd take her to the bathroom to bathe her but Nanan insisted they clean her up with a clean towel and warm water since she wasn't strong enough to leave her bed. As the maids supplied all she needed she took care of Kamila herself.

"Where's Kayden?" Kamila asked after Nanan fed her. Looking around like she had been doing since she regained consciousness. Nanan looked at me immediately before excusing herself and the maids trailed behind her leaving Kamila and I alone

"I sent her away," I replied, taking her hand as I swallowed the hot saliva that gathered in my throat suddenly.

Kamila who was lying on her back sat up looking so confused

"I don't understand, you sent Kayden away, Alpha. What happened?" She asked adjusting herself on the bed and I moved to help her but she raised her hand stopping me.

"After she pushed you down the stairs I figured she'd be a threat to you and the baby so I-"

"Alpha…" she called interrupting me as a tear dropped from her eyes, shaking her head "Kayden, oh poor sweet lady." She cried burying her face in her palm and everything around me became still as I realized what I just did.
