Chapter 29 - Pinnacle Republic

The priest, witnessing the massacre, clenched his fists in desperation. "May the Light guide their souls to peace," he murmured, preparing for one last stand.

But Ren, now a harbinger of darkness, closed in on the priest with an unholy determination.

"You cannot escape the inevitable," Ren hissed, the chaotic energy swirling around him like a tempest of malevolence.

The priest, with beads of sweat mixing with the dirt on his face, raised his staff in a final act of defiance. "In the name of the Light, I shall resist!"

Ren's sword descended with unbridled force, cutting through the air. The priest's defensive efforts proved futile as the chaotic energy overpowered the protective spells.

The once-defiant defenders were now reduced to lifeless forms scattered across the battlefield. Ren, standing amidst the carnage, felt the surge of power coursing through him as the experience points accumulated.

A wicked smile played on Ren's lips as he reveled in the aftermath of the slaughter. The city's defenders lay defeated, and Ren's journey through the blood-soaked path of chaos continued.

Ren stood amidst the lifeless bodies of the fallen defenders, the chaotic energy still pulsating around him. The once-bustling battlefield now echoed with eerie silence, broken only by the occasional moans of the wounded and the distant sounds of chaos from the city.

Ren's twisted grin widened as he absorbed the experience points gained from the merciless slaughter.

The Council Chamber in the City Hall.

"Kevin, what is going on?" Mayor Eldric yells at his steward.

"There is an intruder, sir, we are currently trying to defend the city hall."

Mayor Eldric's eyes widened in shock and fear. "An intruder? How did they breach our defenses?"

Kevin, the steward, replied with urgency. "It's a powerful individual, sir. He's been cutting through our best knights, holy knight, mercenaries and mage like they're nothing. We're doing our best to protect the council chamber."

Priest Samuel frowned and said. "It must be Lord Gareth, he was the only one who had the ability to do this, not only strong but also able to drive the whole barony into madness."

The merchant and knight are shocked at the mention of Lord Gareth's name, a brat who can only take over the barony for a few weeks has such ability.

Mayor Eldric clenched his fists, a mixture of anger and fear welling up within him. "Lord Gareth? that brat? how did he become so powerful? we need to do something before he reaches the council chamber."

Priest Samuel, still recovering from the recent onslaught, suggested, "We must evacuate the council members to safety. The city hall is no longer secure."

The merchant, hastily packing his belongings, added, "I agree. We should prioritize the safety of the council members and ourselves."

Mayor Eldric nodded in agreement, realizing the urgency of the situation. "Kevin, gather the council members and lead them to the secret escape route."

Kevin nodded and hurriedly left the Council Chamber to carry out Mayor Eldric's orders. The remaining individuals in the room exchanged worried glances.

Meanwhile Ren, having cleared the battlefield of any resistance, made his way towards the City Hall.

As Ren approached the entrance of the City Hall, he could see the panic and chaos within.

Citizens who have allegiance to mayor were fleeing in terror, and the city guards attempted to form a hasty defense.

But their defense was no good, and Ren easily killed the city guard.

Ren, however, paid no attention to the chaos around him, his focus was on reaching the Council Chamber.

As Ren entered the town hall, he was blocked by the last Holy Knight and the Mayor's Faction Knights.

"Halt! Intruder!" shouted the Holy Knight, brandishing his sword with determination.

Ren, his chaotic energy-infused sword still gleaming with malevolence, stared at the defenders with cold eyes. "Stand aside. I have no interest in petty resistance."

The Holy Knight, though outnumbered and facing an overwhelmingly powerful adversary, stood his ground. "We won't let you reach the Council Chamber. Prepare yourself, evildoer!"

The Mayor's Faction Knights, fueled by a sense of duty and loyalty, formed a defensive line alongside the Holy Knight.

Ren, with a mocking smirk, raised his sword. "Very well. Prepare to meet your end."

The battle within the Council Chamber was intensifying. Kevin, the steward, ushered the council members through the secret escape route, leading them to city outskirt.

Priest Samuel asks Mayor Eldric, "Mayor Eldric, what would you do now? as for me, I will go back to the Church of Light in Emberwood and tell them what happened here and wait for further instructions from Priestess Isabella and Father Matthias for the next step.

Mayor Eldric, his expression grave, nodded at Priest Samuel's suggestion. "Yes, Priest Samuel, go back to Emberwood and seek guidance from the Church of Light. As for me, I will visit my family in the Duchy of Athea."

"I hope to see you again." Priest Samuel nodded solemnly and left with the mayor, merchant, and others.

Mayor Eldric lies to Priest Samuel that he did not go to the Duchy of Athea, but to the Pinnacle Republic.

"Kevin, let's go to Pinnacle Republic, our mission here has failed, and I need to tell His Serenity about what happened here."

Kevin, the steward, nodded in agreement. "Understood, Sir."

The merchant and the knight who serve mayor Eldric shock that mayor Eldric were puppet under Doge of Pinnacle Republic.

Mayor Eldric, leading his small entourage, made their way to the Pinnacle Republic, concealing his true allegiance to the Doge.

In the Council Chamber, the last stand between Ren and the defenders unfolded. The Holy Knight and the Mayor's Faction Knights, though valiant, were no match for Ren's overwhelming power.

With each swing of his chaotic energy-infused sword, Ren cut through the Holy Knight and the Mayor's Faction Knights with sheer amount of power, leading them to their deaths.

After the death of the knight and the holy knight, Ren searched for the mayor and his advisor, but he found nothing.

"Tsk! They escaped."

Ren, standing amidst the lifeless bodies of the fallen defenders, sensed the absence of the mayor and his advisor. A frustrated scowl crossed his face as he realized they had managed to slip away.

"They won't escape for long," Ren muttered to himself, his eyes gleaming with determination. He sheathed his chaotic energy-infused sword and began to search for any clues or information that might lead him to the mayor's whereabouts.

As Ren explored the City Hall, he stumbled upon a hidden passage that seemed to lead to an underground chamber. Intrigued, he decided to follow the path, suspecting it might be a secret escape route used by the mayor and his advisor.

The underground passage twisted and turned, leading Ren through a labyrinth of dark corridors. Along the way, he encountered traps and obstacles, indicating the strategic nature of the escape route.

Despite the challenges, Ren pressed on, fueled by the desire to track down the mayor and anyone else who might be involved in the city's affairs.

Finally, the passage opened up into a hidden chamber. There, Ren discovered a map detailing various escape routes and safe houses. It appeared to be a well-thought-out plan, likely orchestrated by the mayor and his advisor to ensure a swift exit in times of crisis.

Ren's eyes narrowed as he studied the map, determined to use it to his advantage. With newfound information in hand, he exited the underground chamber and made his way toward the outskirts of the city.

"Tsk I want to chase them, but I cannot leave the city."

Ren, realizing the limitations of pursuing the mayor outside the city, decided to focus on the immediate surroundings.

"There is some citizen that were affected by chaotic energy should send them to village."

"First suppressed the chaotic energy in the city."

"Second train them to become an anti mage."

"Third fortify the mansion and, if possible, the city as well."

"Fourth level up my resurrection to level 6."

"And the last is to rebuild the city."

Ren sighs. "There are so many things to do."

"Alright, let's level up my attribute and skill first."
