They ventured deeper into the cave system, their footsteps echoing ominously off the rough, stone walls. The air grew colder, the shadows darker, as if the very cave was swallowing them whole. Every so often, they would pass the lifeless husks of insect-like beasts, their bodies twisted in death. The sight of fallen Hakvalls among the carcasses served as a grim reminder of the danger they faced.
After what felt like an eternity of creeping through the oppressive darkness, they reached a vast chamber. It was a huge room with many entrances branching off in different directions, like the tendrils of some great, subterranean beast. The sight of so many paths urged them to split up, but Trex shook his head vehemently and made a gesture indicating they should stick together.
Vincent glanced around nervously. "Looks like this place is trying to split us up," he muttered, his grip tightening on his rifle. "But we shouldn't."
