Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

I curved my lips upward in a small smile and I couldn't resist the urge to twirl in my office. I covered my face with my hands in embarrassment as I recalled the event that happened two weeks ago.

Two weeks ago, I had sex with my husband Brandon. It wasn't my first sex but it was one of my favorite sex.

I had just returned from the hospital and the doctor confirmed that I was two weeks pregnant. I couldn't wait to share the good news with Brandon. He would be so excited. I could finally bear him a child.

My cheeks turned red as I recalled how Brandon made me reach ecstasy that night.

I giggled lightly as I scurried towards my table. I quickly dropped the gift I had gotten for Brandon's mother on the table and I dialed Brandon's number. I called him several times but he didn't return the calls.

I quickly connected to the wifi and a trending news popped up. A small smile found its way to my lips when I saw a picture of me and Brandon but my smile slowly faded and my heart raced when I saw the news headline.

I scurried out of my office towards my car and as soon as I settled in I drove off to Brandon's mansion.

When I got to Brandon's mansion I punched what I remembered as the password and fortunately, the huge gate flung open.

My heart threatened to burst out of its ribcage as I hoped that the news I had seen earlier was fake.

I smiled softly when I noticed Brandon walking down the stairs. "Mara?" I mumbled to myself as I noticed the lady walking down the stairs beside Brandon.

"Brandon I think you need to sue HW News for always spreading rumors about you". I said smiling.

Brandon looked at me and his face had a mixture of rage and disgust. "If it's about our divorce then it isn't a rumor".

His eyes grew darker as he threw an envelope towards me. "Sign the divorce paper and get lost, Kara".

Confusion and fear gripped me immediately and I ran towards Brandon tears streaming down my cheeks. " Brandon, am I doing something wrong?

"Please forgive me. You promised to love me forever". I don't know if what I was saying made sense but at least some words left my mouth.

"No Kara. You did nothing wrong".

"I don't love you Kara. You have only been a thing of pleasure to me but now you disgust me".

"Now. Hurry up and sign the damn papers!"

"I don't have all the time in the world".

My heart ached uncontrollably and I felt like my head would explode because of the sudden headache. My vision was already hazy as tears streamed down my cheeks.

"Brandon please".

"I promise to be a better wife". I pleaded, already on my knees.

Mara's disgusting voice rang in my ears and a vivid image of how I pounced on her and scratched her evil face played in my head.

"Kara you should leave, you don't have to shamelessly force yourself on a man". She said, giggling sheepishly.

I shamelessly crawled towards Brandon not minding the scornful gaze from Mira. "Brandon even if you don't love me anymore I'm sure we could make things work".

I was already grabbing Brandon's ankle as I pleaded desperately. Brandon forcibly pulled his leg away from my grip causing me to crash on the ground with a loud thud.

I hadn't noticed that Brandon had called for his guard until two husky men walked into the living room.

"Take her out and make sure she never steps her feet here". Brandon commanded and with that, he turned around and walked away.

"Brandon please!". I begged desperately as the guard began dragging me away. Brandon completely ignored me and I painfully watched him disappear from my sight.

The guards threw me out of Brandon's mansion causing me to stumble down until my body hit the car I had parked nearby.

I struggled to stand up, but with each attempt, I found myself repeatedly stumbling and falling back to the ground.

I managed to regain my composure as I walked towards my car. I cried in my car for hours before driving home.

"Maybe Brandon is in a bad mood today. I would probably call him tomorrow". I muttered to myself trying to abhore some hope.

"Kara!". My father yelled as soon I walked into the mansion.

Before I could process what was happening my father raised his hand and sent a hard slap across my face.

"Father". I cried, holding my stinging cheeks with my left hand.

"How could you Kara!"

"After everything I've done for you!"

At that moment I could only wish for the ground to open up and swallow me. My father getting mad at me was the last thing I wanted.

"Kara, what did I do wrong?"

My heart ached uncontrollably when I saw a drop of tears roll down my father's eyes.

"Father". I managed to mutter.

"Kara, why was I thrown out of the company?

"What do you mean father?

"That is my company. No one has the right to throw you out of the company you had signed to me".

"I-I am the major shareholder, Father".

"Then why Kara?

"Why did you hand the company over to Brandon?" My father yelled, clenching his fist in a tight ball.

My whole world stopped for a second and I found myself crashing on the floor. "W-what have I done?

I couldn't bring myself to believe that Brandon was only using me. Suddenly, vivid images of the night Brandon forced me to drink with him popped up in my head.

I recalled signing a document Brandon gave to me but I was too drunk to know what the document entailed.

Tears streamed down my cheeks as I shoved my hands through my hair. I was losing my sanity. I had lost the company my father worked hard for and I had lost the father to my unborn baby in one day.

I looked up at my father, my heart aching as he had already become a crying mess.

"Father!"

My father suddenly fell to the ground with blood gushing out of his mouth.

"Somebody! Anybody help me!". I yelled, hoping for one of the workers to hear my plea.

My maid Mika ran into the living room and with her help, I was able to rush my father to the hospital.

My eyes had already turned red and swollen and I could barely see a thing.

" How is my father Doctor? I scurried towards the doctor hoping to hear a positive response.

"Miss Kara". The doctor paused.

"Mr. Hart was poisoned and we need to operate on him".

"The poison that was found in his body is a very strong poison and it has eaten deeply into his lung".

"Your father needs to be operated on as soon as possible".

I was about to say something when my phone suddenly rang.

"Hello?

"Ma'am the investors are here and they are asking to see you".

"You had promised to pay your investors as soon as our new product launches but the launch was a failure" Lawrence, the chief financial officer reported.

"What!

"How is that possible?

"According to my calculations and market analysis, the new Ginz phone was supposed to be a success".

"Yes ma'am but a new company copied our idea and they launched their products before we did".

My phone suddenly fell from my hand and shattered to pieces on the floor.

"Miss Kara, are you okay?". Doctor Henry asked, holding my waist to prevent me from falling.

"Give me a second Doc". I said then I ran out of the hospital.

As soon as I got to my mansion, I scurried into my room. Tears streamed down my cheeks as I inputted the password to the safe in my room.

Fortunately, I had enough cash that was able to cover my father's bill and pay up my investors.

I heard the clicking sound of my safe, indicating that I had successfully unlocked the safe.

My eyes widened in surprise and I felt my heart racing, my breathing quickening. It was as if the world was closing in, and I couldn't catch my breath. My chest tightened, and tears welled up in my eyes as I gasped for air, unable to control the rising panic.

"M-my money. It is gone".

"Kara". I heard a family voice from behind. It was my mother.

My mother patted my back gently as she embraced me in a tight hug.

"Hurry up Kara, we need to get a loan from the bank". My mother said as soon as I explained everything to her.

"We need to take care of your father's hospital bill first".

"We need to stay strong as a family".My mother tried to cheer me up but what she said made me cry out loudly.

I sat beside my mother in the front seat as she drove towards the bank. I could say I had almost gotten blind with the way my eyes swelled. My vision had almost turned dark and I could barely see a thing.

"Ahhhh". I heard my mom scream beside me.

She unbuckled her seat belt and almost immediately she wrapped her arms around me in a warm embrace as she whispered. "Stay alive".

I don't know what happened next but it felt like our car was tumbling backward until it finally came to a halt.

"Help me". I muttered to the man walking towards our car

I felt pain all over my body. I knew our car had tumbled down because I could only see the man's feet.

"Yes, boss.

"Mission was a success". The man said. With that, he turned around and walked towards his truck.

The screeching of the truck tires was the last thing I heard and everywhere turned dark.
