Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: The Mouse that bit the Cat

Late at night, the bright moon hung high in the sky.

In the Yan family's courtyard, a pitch-black snake slithered in through the crack in the door.

It raised its ugly triangular head, spat out a vivid red tongue, and quickly crawled towards Yan Yuchen's bedroom.

Just as it reached the corner outside the window, two small golden-furred mice suddenly appeared from the dark corner. Their pairs of eyes were filled with excitement, as if they were eager to snatch something.

Ordinarily, snakes prey on mice; it's a natural order for snakes to eat mice. Most mice, upon seeing a snake, would avoid it, fearing to become the snake's meal with even a slight hesitation.

However, these two seemingly recently born mice showed no fear. Instead, they displayed an eager and excited demeanor, as if they were scrambling for food.

This irrational scene surprised the snake. Nevertheless, it reacted swiftly. With a quick flick of its head, it opened its large mouth, viciously biting one of the small mice, attempting to swallow it whole.

It intended to make these two pitiful creatures understand how foolish their actions were!

"Swoosh!"

Surprisingly, the mouse facing the snake's open mouth didn't dodge. Like lightning, it landed in the snake's mouth before its venomous fangs could close, instantly darting into the snake's throat!

The snake was momentarily stunned, then it looked mockingly at the other mouse on the ground, seemingly saying, "Little thing, see that? Your brother willingly entered my belly, serving as my food. Now, it's your turn."

The mouse on the ground, with a dumbfounded expression, gazed at the snake, its eyes glowing green with a hint of mockery. It seemed to say, "That elongated fool, do you even understand whether you're eating my brother or my brother's eating you?"

Just then, the snake's mouth suddenly twisted, and its body collapsed with a loud "thud." It writhed in pain, convulsing uncontrollably.

Inside the snake's body, the mouse brother had rampaged, biting its organs one by one, savoring the taste. Like a drill, it pierced out of the snake's tail, covered in blood, licking its lips with an unsatisfied look.

The snake was now horrified, attempting to roll away, but the intense pain within prevented it from maintaining balance.

The mouse brother, who had been watching coldly, eagerly leaped onto the snake's head with a "swoosh," grabbing it by the neck, ready to feast.

The snake's eyes were filled with terror and resentment, and in desperation, it suddenly swung its head, fiercely biting towards the mouse's neck!

"A snap!"

The snake did manage to bite, but it couldn't close its mouth. Its venomous fangs seemed to break as if biting into steel!

The venomous snake was terrified, utterly puzzled, having no idea what kind of creature this was. It certainly wasn't the familiar mouse it knew!

The mouse brother, tilting its head disdainfully, glanced at the snake. The golden fur on its neck suddenly shook, resembling swords as it instantly pierced through the snake's mouth!

Seeing that this beast dared to bite its brother, the mouse brother became furious. With a swift movement, it dived into the snake's tail again, madly tearing and biting inside.

The snake shuddered and fainted from the pain.

Fearful that its brother might consume more, the mouse brother didn't hesitate. It jumped onto the snake's head, grabbed it by the neck, and prepared to feast.

The snake, filled with terror and resentment, suddenly swung its head, fiercely biting towards the mouse's neck.

"A snap!"

It did manage to bite, but its jaws wouldn't close. Its venomous fangs broke as if biting into steel.

The snake, shocked and confused, didn't recognize the creature before it, but it was certainly not the ordinary mouse it was familiar with!

The mouse brother, with a mocking expression, looked at it. The golden fur on its neck shook again, like sharp blades, instantly piercing through the snake's mouth.

Enraged by the snake's attempt to bite its brother, the mouse brother plunged into the snake's tail once more, voraciously tearing it apart.

The snake convulsed, overwhelmed by pain.

The mouse brother, fearing its brother might eat more, didn't hesitate. It went straight for the snake's head and began tearing and devouring it.

In no time, the entire snake was devoured by the two small mice.

Afterward, the limping mother mouse emerged, instructing the two small mice to clean up the bloodstains on the ground, fearing the family might see them and worry.

After carefully cleaning the bloodstains, the two small mice returned with some rice as a tribute to their mother.

The mother mouse was different from them; it never ate bloody things and lacked the appetite for it. It could only eat some grains.

However, it had never stolen a single grain from the Yan family; they collected them from elsewhere.

After finishing the rice, the mother mouse rested in the burrow. Before leaving, it instructed the two small mice to take turns guarding the courtyard, not allowing any dangerous things to approach.

The mouse brothers, full of energy, continued to roam around.

Occasionally, when encountering wild cats from other houses trying to steal meat, the two cunning little creatures would pretend to be ordinary mice fleeing in panic. As the wild cat excitedly chased after them, ready to pounce, the two small mice suddenly turned around, leaping at the cat, tearing and biting.

No matter how the wild cat tried to dodge, it couldn't escape the fate of being scarred. In the end, it would hurriedly flee, no longer daring to approach this terrifying place.

Mice daring to bite a cat—what cat would still dare to come?

...

Meanwhile, in that rudimentary bedroom, Chen Qizhen, lying on the bed, furrowed her brows, still caught in a frightening nightmare.

The ancient guitar in the corner, silent, seemed to watch her with a sense of pity.

Long-lasting nightmares had become a habit, and whenever she fell asleep, terrifying monsters naturally appeared in her mind. These were not dreams that could be dispelled in a single night.

So, after resolving Zhang Hui's situation, Yan Yuchen immediately rushed back, entering the girl's dream, dispelling the evil spirits, and continuing to create beautiful scenes with her.

Meanwhile, Qingya remained in Zhang Hui's dream, tormenting him. For someone unrepentant even after getting out of prison, Yan Yuchen felt no mercy.

In the dream, the girl continued to walk alone on a dark road, occasional evil spirits leaping out from the sides, grinning menacingly.

She cried out in fear, trembling with fear all over, her tear-filled eyes filled with vulnerability and helplessness.

Suddenly, a shimmering light appeared ahead, and the familiar boy reappeared.

His face still carried that warm and radiant smile, instantly dispelling all darkness and monsters around.

He came over, took her small hand, his tone still gentle and pleasant but this time with a playful tease, "Don't be afraid. Those monsters were all scared to death by my handsomeness. Shall we go? I'll take you to another interesting place, alright?"

This time, the girl wasn't afraid of him anymore. Instead, she clung tightly to his arm, as if holding onto a towering father, fearing he might suddenly disappear, her face filled with excitement and attachment.

"Um."

The girl nodded gently, shy yet joyful.

"There, there's radiant sunshine, green grasslands, hills full of cattle and sheep, and numerous fruit-laden trees—red apples, golden pears..."

As he described his magical scene, it suddenly manifested around them, a picturesque landscape that was breathtaking.

The nightmare finally transformed into a beautiful dream.

Overwhelmed with joy, she cried tears of happiness.

The girl's emotions bloomed like spring flowers, and she felt so happy that she was on the verge of fainting.

Sitting on the speeding little red horse, she tightly hugged the boy in front of her, shyly and happily asking, "What's your name?"

The boy smiled, "Feng."

"Feng..."

In reality, Chen Qizhen, lying on the bed, had a happy smile on her face, murmuring this name.
