"Milady it's time"Ancila, the leader of the peasant called out as she coaxed her to enter by giving her a gentle tap between her shoulder blades.
Sapphire held unto her child tightly encroached in between her bosom, she turned around with a smile
"One more minute Ancila, young sire volt is half asleep"
"But milady, keeping the court waiting could attract much more punishment "
Sapphire nodded in agreement as she softly caressed the sleeping child, earlier in the day, an envoy from the king summoned her to the court room, through reliable sources Sapphire knew that the king of 'Creedom' had something on his sleeves and she was his pawn.
King Kai was in the habit of taking what he wanted when he wanted it. His reputation for lechery was well known. It was unusual for him to seduce the willing and unwilling wives and mistresses of his barons and then the morning after, boast of his conquest.
"Shall we?"
Ancila followed lady sapphire into the great court as a guard rushed ahead to the tall door made of oak timbers and thrust it open. Sapphire thanked him as she walked past, but she came to a quick stop on the threshold, it was so dark inside, she couldn't see her way
As her eyes adjusted to the darkness she made a room with at least fifty barons, viscounts and marquess with his majesty King Kai the fifth.
"Greetings to your majesty, the supreme being of Creedom and all through out the land"Lady Sapphire bowed and then knelt before him.
The room was immediately lit up as it boasted two fire places one on each end .
"Lady sapphire arise"King Kai motioned for her to stand .
His highness wore scarlet robes, identical to the color of wines he spilled on the white cloth of the side stool when he slammed the goblet down and stood
King Kai was not a handsome man, he was of average size with a protruding stomach, but to sapphire she believed him to be a ferocious soul after all he raised her as his own
"My condolences I couldn't make it to sire volts celebration" The king spoke, he picked up his goblet and took a long swallow, wine dripped into his beard and he used the back of his arm to wipe his chin as he sat.
Sapphire was no fool, that wasn't the reason she was summoned in here, she simply looked at him and waited for him to explain the purpose of the meeting
The Royal Viscounts broke the silence
"Lady sapphire, your presence was summoned by the court cause of treacherous rumors that seemed to be surfacing, the court has considered and decided before judgment you would be given a chance to clarify the issue before punishment"
Sapphire knew better than to ask him who was behind all this atrocity as she searched the room and when she happened to look to her right, her breathe caught in her throat and she nearly lost her balance. Baron Albert, her husband and young sire volt father stood, looking venomously at her as she met his gaze.
"There seems to be some confusion here" she began "as I'm unaware of these rumors"
"Lies" someone from the crowd shouted.
She turned her attention to the king
"Your majesty if I may ask, are you aware of all this misleading rumors"
King Kai rubbed his chin"Do you mean the Atrocious deeds sire Albert committed secretly with you and your secret romantic affair "
Frowning she asked"I seemed to be lost your majesty " her fingers brushed across the gold medallion her son wore on a chain around his neck. It has been fashioned from a coin and bore the likeness of the kingdom crest
"This is mockery, A Mockery!"
Another sudden shout roared
"I believe you are borrowing trouble, you mean to say you cannot remember your abominable acts my dear"
It was once said the king took a sudden liking towards Lady sapphire as she grew but all that was gone as she became a lady.
King Kai was just as outraged by her attitude and he looked like he wanted to strike her but she held her ground and budged not one inch
"Since you refuse to claim your sins and plead for mercy, Lady Sapphire your sins are ADULTERY!!!!!!"
The damning silence that followed the accusation lasted only as long as it took for everyone in the room to draw gasping breath. Then the crowd erupted into bursts of anger and outrage. Within minutes sides were taken for or against the poor woman
ADULTERY is a sin punishable by death!!!
