Chapter 9 - DARK SHADOWS

Ethan pov…..

He stormed out of the room, his anger palpable. I stood there, rooted to the spot, watching the door as it swung closed behind him. That fool. He had no idea who he was dealing with. He thought I had forgotten everything, that I had forgiven him. But he was wrong. I would make him pay for what he did to me, for the pain he had caused. He had no idea what was coming.

Once he was out of sight, I scanned the room to make sure no one else was watching. Then, I slipped into the shadows and made my way to the back of the house. I knew exactly what I had to do. I had to set things right, and I would do whatever it took to make sure that man paid for what he had done. He would regret ever crossing me. This was only the beginning.

The room was shrouded in darkness, the only light coming from a few flickering candles. I made my way to the far end, where a shadow loomed in the corner, waiting for me. I could feel the tension in the air, the anticipation of what was to come. The deal was about to be sealed, and there was no turning back.

"You made me wait here for minutes," the voice said, sharp and cold, anger seeping through every word. "Do you think I have nothing better to do than wait for you?"

"I'm sorry, I had to deal with our enemy's latest scheme," I mumbled, hoping that would be the end of the discussion. But I was wrong. My words seemed to only serve to infuriate her further.

"Confront him? What for?" she snapped, her eyes blazing with fury. "What could be so important that it would make you keep me waiting like this?"

"I'm sorry, alright? Let's just get this over with," I said, my voice strained. "And please, stop acting like you're the one in charge here. We both need each other, so this needs to be a mutual arrangement. Neither of us is superior to the other." She turned away from me, her body language betraying her annoyance.

"What progress have you made so far?" she asked, and I felt a sharp pain in my chest. I knew what she was going to say next, and I wasn't sure I could bear to hear it. "I heard that he's married your ex, Olivia," she continued, her words slicing through me like a knife.

"Yes, he married her, and it just adds fuel to the fire of my hatred for him. He's always taking everything from me, and then he has the nerve to blame his crimes on me. It's enough to make me break down and cry." I could feel the tears welling up, my voice breaking as the memories threatened to overwhelm me.

"Ethan, it's not the time to wallow in your emotions. It's time to take action and get revenge for what he's done to you. And this is the perfect opportunity to make your move." She placed a hand on my shoulder, her touch gentle but firm.

"Here, take this," she said, opening my hand and placing something in it. "Don't open it until you get to your room," she whispered, her voice urgent.

I looked down at the object in my hand, a small bundle wrapped in black nylon. I glanced up, trying to catch a glimpse of her face, but she had already disappeared into the shadows. The only words that echoed in my mind were her last: "Bring Olivia to me."

I stood there, frozen in place, my mind racing with questions. Why did she want me to bring Olivia to her? How was I even supposed to do that, when Olivia was never allowed to leave the house? And what would she do to Olivia once she had her? My thoughts were spinning, and I felt dizzy from the possibilities.

I knew it was wrong, but I couldn't help but feel a twinge of anger towards Olivia. She had left me for Ryan, after all. And if I needed her to get my revenge, then so be it. I couldn't let my emotions get in the way of my plan. I had to stay focused, no matter what.

Olivia pov...

As the shadow disappeared into the darkness, I turned away from the spot where I had been standing. I knew what I had seen – or at least, I thought I did. I was sure I had seen two shadows, talking to each other. But I couldn't make out their features, and I couldn't explain what I had seen. What was going on in this house? What secrets were being kept from me?

"What are you looking at, Olivia?" a voice said from behind me, making me jump. I turned around, my heart racing as I saw Molly, her eyes narrowed in suspicion.

I looked up, and my eyes met Molly's. She stood only a few feet away from me, and I could tell by the look on her face that she wanted to know what I was thinking. But I couldn't bring myself to tell her what I had seen. For some reason, I felt like it had to remain a secret.

"Oh, nothing," I stammered, hoping my voice didn't sound as shaky as I felt. "I was just… looking at something." I forced a smile, hoping she wouldn't see through my lie.

"Why do I get the feeling that you're lying to me, Olivia?" she asked, her voice firm and direct. "I'm your friend, but you never tell me the truth. Don't you trust me?" Her words hit me like a punch to the gut. I knew I should trust her, but something was holding me back.

"I know you saw two shadows, Olivia," she said, her voice low and intense. "Don't even try to deny it." I stared at her in disbelief, my mouth hanging open. How could she have known?

"I saw them too," she said, her voice breaking. "I saw them from the other side of the building, and when I came to tell you – because you're my friend – I saw that you had seen them too. But then you lied to me about it." I could hear the hurt in her voice, and I felt a pang of guilt.

"I'm sorry for lying to you," I said, knowing full well that my apology was hollow. "I just didn't want to burden you with my problems." But even as I said the words, I knew they were nothing more than a lie.

"It's okay," she said, patting my back as she walked away. "Just don't lie to me again. I know more than you think." Her words hung in the air, and I felt a chill run down my spine. What did she know? And what would she do with that knowledge?

"Hey," a voice called out. I looked up, and saw Ethan standing in front of me. "What do you want this time?" I said, my words coming out harsher than I had intended.

"Can I talk to you privately?" he said in a low voice, his smile somehow reassuring.

"What do you want to talk about, Ethan?" I asked, my tone guarded. "If it's about us getting back together, you know that's not possible."

"It's not about that," he said, a small chuckle escaping his lips. He took a step closer, and I felt a tinge of apprehension.
