"What did he say?," Tania sprang up, asking. She and Hugh were at the table, sitting together and speaking in whispers.
Celestiel managed a smile, despite the sadness she felt. "Don't worry, my mother isn't your Elaine."
There was a huge lump in her throat as she lied through her teeth. But the way Hugh's eyes lit up in relief and hope, motivated her to go on with her lie.
"Apparently, Elaine made it out of the forest," she continued. "She'll return to you soon."
