Shaun's face showed a trace of panic, then he said in a calm manner, "I don't understand what you are saying."
Earl Kopin said with a serious face, "Father Eric, this is my friend Mr Benrath, your words have offended my friend."
Father Eric laughed at Shaun's reaction in his eyes and said to Count Kopin, "Your Excellency, Mr Benrath, let's talk in private."
The three of them went to Earl Coppin's small study, the door to the room had just been closed when the priest suddenly pulled out a tin cup with water in it from somewhere, Father Eric quickly grabbed some of the water with his fingertips and flicked it onto Shaun while mouthing the words.
Shaun and Earl Kopin looked at each other in disbelief, and Kopin protested angrily, "Father Eric, are you performing an exorcism? It's too much! I'm going to protest to the church side!"
After Father Eric did the procedure and recited the incantation, he took a closer look at Shaun and saw that he didn't have any other reaction other than a hint of panic, so he nodded his head and said to Earl Kerpin, "Earl Kerpin, I'm trying to help you absolve yourselves from the charge of summoning a demon, now would you please explain what happened to the demon summoning ceremony that happened in this manor of yours last night? "
Hearing Father Eric say this, Earl Kerpin coughed a few times with some embarrassment: "This one ..."
Count Kopin's face shifted in colour, and only after a while did he say as if he had made up his mind: "Father Eric, please follow me."
The three of them walked to the large ballroom, which had something covered by a huge curtain on the floor in the centre of the large ballroom. The Count ordered the thick velvet curtains of several floor-to-ceiling windows to be hung, and the Grand Ballroom was immediately darkened. The servant pulled back the curtains on the floor, and in the darkness one could vaguely see that it was several huge pieces of shell-like debris.
In the darkness the Count shouted, "Begin."
With the Count's command, three red pillars of light struck down from the ceiling of the grand ballroom and shone down on a huge magic formation pattern on the floor, with several huge shell fragments right in the centre of the formation.
The Count turned to Shaun and said, "Mr Blart, please help demonstrate."
Shaun, somewhat embarrassed, walked to the centre of the pile of shards and held his head up as high as he could under the red column of light, looking somewhat magical.
The Count said to Father Eric, "Father, this is the truth. As you know, there is no shortage of powerful nobles and businessmen in our little circle, and their comfortable lives have made them seek excitement, so sometimes it is necessary to add some narcotic effects to them, so I devised a show that, with the addition of marijuana and good whisky, would make them feel that they were really seeing strange scenes. I do this to make the circle more cohesive, which is good for our business."
After saying that, the count lit the pipe he had been holding in his hand and looked at Father Eric with a smile.
Father Eric looked at Count Kopin with a calm face and slowly said: ''Count, this time I accept your explanation. But if you guys hold such evil rituals again, the church will no longer turn a blind eye to you, even if you are all knighted nobles, the church will judge you."
Earl Kopin put his hand on his chest and bowed, saying, "I am grateful for your tolerance. Please convey to the Lord Bishop for me that I will donate one thousand gold marks to the church on Pentecost day soon."
Kopin thought to himself: "We really don't need this ceremony anymore."
Father Eric looked at Shaun again, turned around and walked out of the mansion, getting into a carriage to go back to Cologne.
Watching Father Eric's carriage leave the gate of the manor, Earl Kopin hurriedly turned back to Shaun and bowed deeply and said: "My lord, please forgive me for the offence I took just now."
Shaun had already returned to his previous calm and casual appearance and said, "You did well. The church is really arrogant plus narrow-minded, it seems that they didn't really believe in summoning out the devil's son in the first place. This is good, they can't get down without giving them a justifiable reason."
Earl Kopin said in an admiring tone, "Your Excellency truly possesses boundless wisdom to come up with a way to have the Wutai set decorator make pieces of the Devil's Egg out of paper and then paint the light bulb red."
Shaun smiled faintly: "It's not worth mentioning. If not for the fact that currently being enemies with the church is not in line with our interests, there is no need to be so perfunctory with them, and it's not a big deal to go to war directly." While bragging on his mouth, Shaun secretly breathed a sigh of relief in his heart: "At least the church will be dealt with in the past, fortunately the one who came is not a real exorcist from the church, otherwise the demonic breath in his body may be tested out."
In the church carriage that was moving away from the Earl's manor, Father Eric was resting his eyes. Not knowing what came to his mind, a smile with a hint of mockery suddenly appeared on the priest's kind face.
Far away, another carriage was travelling in the same direction as Father Eric's carriage, and there was a crest of the Dietrich family on the carriage.
Karl rode in the carriage as it once again drove into Count Coppin's estate.
Not much later, Karl was already standing in front of Shaun to report to him: ''Lord Bernhardt, your residence has been arranged, so please go and take a look at it together with Lady Iris. In addition, the sixty-nine thousand gold marks deposit slip deposited into the German Imperial Bank in your name has already been put into the safe within the residence. Here is the safe deposit box combination and one thousand gold marks in cash." After saying that Karl placed an elegantly shaped man's money clip in his hand in front of Shaun.
Shaun casually picked up the money clip and handed it to Iris next to him and said, "Go, take a look."
Count Kopin hurriedly called people to prepare the carriage, let Shaun and Iris ride in the carriage he usually rides in, and he himself rides in Karl's carriage, and also asked the servant to put Shaun's clothes into the luggage and bring it with him.
The carriage travelled smoothly on the way to Cologne. In this era where cars were about to replace carriages, carriages had evolved to be very comfortable, but the huge maintenance costs and the work of cleaning up the horse manure had made this mode of transport a symbol of the old-school upper class, and the ordinary citizen class was increasingly using modern means of transport such as trams.
Sitting in the Count's luxurious carriage, Shaun and Iris were silent, each thinking about their own business.
"Tell me, what powers do you have to keep me safe?" Shaun asked with sudden interest.
Iris was still looking out of the car window,, and didn't seem to hear Shaun's words, but her eyes changed from a light blue to a pitch black colour and got bigger, almost covering the whole socket, looking weird and scary.
After a few seconds Iris held out her left hand in a clenched fist towards Shaun and then opened it with a bloody fingernail sized piece in her hand.
"This is part of the liver of one of the horses that is pulling our cart." Eris finished, bringing the bloody piece of liver to his mouth and with a lick of his tongue, rolled it into his mouth and ate it.
"Very fresh." Iris said with a smile.
Shaun smacked his lips: "A bit slow."
The expression on Iris's face went cold, the blackness in her pupils intensified, then suddenly her pupils emptied and her expression stiffened, but in Shaun's line of sight where he was able to see the spirit's body, a ghostly shadow separated from Iris's body and disappeared in an instant, and returned to Iris's body less than a second later.
Iris' pupils regained focus and her expression came back to life.
Shaun noticed a small branch in her hand.
"It's from a tree that the carriage passed by just now, which was a hundred metres away." Iris said faintly.
"Nice." Shaun smiled.
"It's just some tricks, some of the powerful spells aren't very good scenes, so I won't show you. But my lord, do you have anything you can use for defence?" Iris asked with a slight urgency.
Shaun had a "don't bother" smile on his face, but in his head he said, "I'm not stronger than you at the moment, maybe even weaker than you." However, his mind suddenly flashed and ordered: "You separate your spirit body once more and leave it in the carriage."
Iris heard this and her pupils blackened once again, her spirit body separating out of her body and floating in the phase of the car.
Shaun, on the other hand, condensed his thoughts and manifested a short sword of black flame in his hand, handing it to Iris's spirit body.
The spirit body can really pick up the short sword, you suddenly flashed, almost no time difference in reappearance, the short sword in the hand disappeared, the spirit body back to Iris body.
Princess Iris, whose expression came alive, revealed a surprised expression: "My spirit body can touch and hold the short sword, and the short sword has doubled my spirit body's speed and distance from my body!"
Shaun smiled and said, "This is now much more powerful than it was."
Iris stood up in the middle of the car phase put her hands on her chest and bowed deeply saying, "Thank you my lord." There was finally true respect in his voice.
"You're welcome, let's work together like this when we need to. The stronger you are the more help you will be to me." Shaun smiled and said, thinking in his heart: "If I don't have to consume spiritual energy to use it myself, it's still possible to manifest three small weapons with the power of the Demon Spirit at the moment, and then give it to the Iris Spirit Body, which can move almost instantly, to use, the combination would be awesome."
The carriage travelled for an hour, coming within the boundaries of Cologne and driving into an area called Marienburg. This area belonged to a rich district, and the residences were basically independent villas with gardens. The streets were quiet, and the sycamore trees along the roadside formed a boulevard. And this area is very close to the Rhine River, along the river by carriage travelling for about twenty minutes can reach the old town.
The house that Carl prepared for Shaun was at the end of a street, very inconspicuous and not very big, it was a small three-storey building, with tall shrubs planted inside the fence, so that people couldn't see the small building directly from the gate, and the privacy was very good.
The small building was not big but well-equipped, the decoration was very elegant, and added some modern art elements that had just emerged in the upper class, one could feel the original owner's elegant art appreciation.
Shaun was very satisfied with the house, and although Iris seemed to have a faint expression, Shaun could feel a hint of joy in her emotions. Iris was particularly interested in the impressionist works hanging in some of the rooms.
Carl also arranged for three maids, Shaun thought about it and said: "There is no need to arrange for a regular maid, just arrange for someone to come over once a week to clean and do the laundry."
Carl respectfully replied: "Yes, Lord Benhart." In his heart, he secretly thought, "This is good, otherwise it's really hard for a demon's son and a black magic witch to be a regular maid here!
