Chapter 7 - Ada

Ndukwe's dad had spent a wonderful weekend with his family. They had gone to the park, played games, and shared lots of laughter. It was a special time for everyone. They have never had so much fun like this for a long time. But as Monday approached, Ndukwe's dad had to leave for a business trip.

Meanwhile, Ndukwe was excited to go to school, because he couldn't wait to see Ada, his new found love.

As the school day started, Ndukwe kept looking around for Ada. When he finally saw her, he couldn't help but smile. They quickly found each other and started chatting animatedly about their weekends. Ndukwe told her all about the fun he had with his family, and Ada shared her own stories with him. They both enjoyed each other's company and couldn't wait for the next break to play together.

Ndukwe and Ada sat on the grassy patch at the edge of the school playground during lunchtime. The sun was shining, and a gentle breeze played with Ada's hair. He couldn't help but steal glances at her as she laughed at one of his jokes.

They shared a lunch of sandwiches and fruit, and as they ate, they talked about their favorite subjects, and the things that made them both laugh. Ndukwe told Ada a crazy joke he'd heard from his uncle, and she laughed so hard that it made him feel warm and happy inside. He loved making her laugh; her smile seemed to light up the whole world for him.

As they chatted, sharing stories and secrets, Ndukwe felt a growing warmth in his heart. What started as a simple crush had become something deeper; he couldn't stop thinking about Ada and how her laughter made everything seem brighter.

Ada, too, enjoyed Ndukwe's company. She found his jokes hilarious and loves his uniqueness (green eyes and curly hair). She loved how he could make her smile even on the toughest days at school. The more she got to know Ndukwe, the more she felt a special connection with him, a connection that went beyond just friendship.

As the bell rang, signaling the end of lunch, Ndukwe looked at Ada and smiled. "You know, I really enjoy spending time with you, Ada," he admitted, feeling a rush of courage.

Ada blushed and smiled back. "I feel the same way, Ndukwe," she said softly. "You make school so much more fun for me."

They parted ways, both secretly excited for the next day, eager to share more jokes, stories, and perhaps something even more special - the budding feelings that were growing deeper with each passing day.

Ndukwe walked back home from school with a heart full of joy. The sun was slowly setting, casting a warm orange glow over the picturesque landscape. But Ndukwe's mind was far from the breathtaking scenery around him. He was lost in thoughts of his time with Ada, replaying every moment they had shared that day. Her laughter echoed in his mind, and her bright smile filled his heart with warmth.

He couldn't wait for the next day to arrive so he could see Ada again. The anticipation of spending more time with her filled him with an inexplicable happiness.

The weight of his schoolbag, usually a burden at the end of a long day, felt lighter as he practically skipped along the sidewalk. He greeted everybody with a smile on his face. He had never felt this way before.

Finally reaching his doorstep, he burst through the front door, barely containing his excitement. His mother looked up from the evening meal she was preparing, surprised at the sheer joy radiating from her son.

As he approached his house, Ndukwe couldn't contain his excitement. He practically skipped up the steps and swung the front door open. His Mom, who had been preparing dinner in the kitchen, turned with a surprised look on her face. Ndukwe's smile was infectious, and it had been a long time since she had seen her son so genuinely happy.

"Hey, Mom!" Ndukwe exclaimed, pulling her into a tight hug. "I had the best day ever!"

His Mom chuckled at his sudden burst of energy. "I can see that, Ndukwe. what's gotten into you?" she asked, her eyes twinkling with curiosity.

Ndukwe hurriedly stepped into his room, hoping to avoid his mother's prying questions. He had spent the day with Ada, and he wasn't sure he was ready to share the details just yet. However, his mother's curiosity got the better of her. "How was your day, Ndukwe? Did you do anything interesting?" she asked with a hint of a mischievous smile.

Ndukwe paced back and forth in his room, clutching his phone tightly. His heart raced, and his mind spun with the memory of his perfect day with Ada. He had promised himself not to tell his mom about her - not yet. But his mom was unusually curious today and kept asking about his day.

"Ndukwe, why are you being so evasive? What's going on?" His mom's words drifted through the closed door.

"Mom, it's just the same old, same old," Ndukwe attempted to deflect.

But his mom wasn't convinced. "Ndukwe, I can tell something is different. Just tell me."

Exhaling deeply, Ndukwe tried to gather his thoughts. His mom was perceptive, and she wouldn't give up until she knew everything.

Ndukwe hesitated, but the words spilled out. He told his mom about Ada, how he felt like life had new meaning when he was with her. His mom listened intently, the corner of her lips slowly curling into a soft smile. Ndukwe braced himself, expecting questions, reprimands, and warnings.

However, his mom surprised him. She was happy for him.

As Ndukwe finished, his mom took a deep breath. "Ndukwe, I'm glad you've found someone who makes you feel that way. It's a good thing to like someone."

Ndukwe's heart swelled with relief and gratitude. He hadn't expected his mom to understand so easily, but this was only half the battle. There was the other, more complicated half: the history between Ndukwe's mom and Ada's mom.

Ndukwe's mom and Ada's Mom had clashed during their university years. They didn't like each other one bit. Many years had since passed, but the tension still lingered. She didn't want to ruin her son's happiness because of their differences. She settled for a bittersweet smile, masking her inner turmoil.

She took Ndukwe's hands. "Happiness is precious. I want you to embrace it, but don't forget your studies and education. It's important."

Ndukwe nodded, overwhelmed. He hadn't expected her to be so understanding. As they hugged, he felt a surge of gratitude for his mother's acceptance and support.

In the weeks to come, Ndukwe's mom slowly warmed up to the idea of Ada. Despite her reservations, she put aside her differences with Ada's mom for her son's happiness. And as Ndukwe navigated the complexities of young love, he never forgot his mom's words - to cherish his happiness and focus on his studies. He was grateful for her wisdom and unwavering love.

Ndukwe practically gushed about his day with Ada, reliving every moment of their time together. His Mom listened with a smile, touched by the way her son's eyes lit up as he spoke about his newfound friend.
