Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Lost in familiarity

What would your reaction be, if you suddenly stepped into a world that looks exactly the same where you used to live but the only difference is that your family, close friends, or familiar faces are no longer familiar to you? As if everything got a reset but you.

Would you run around and stop after your eyes see something familiar or, would you stop moving and, stand like a statue where you accidentally stepped into?

What Jeane did was neither, as if her body is being possessed she grabbed someone's cold hand and dared to ask for help. "Who cares about 'stranger danger' when I don't even know why this is happening to me, it's better to have some company even if it's some stranger I happen to grab." Her thoughts while she is directly looking at this stranger's eyes.

---Before the accident---

In a dark room Jeanne woke up early as usual, sitting in bed eyes still closed as she yawned gently scratching her belly a slightly loud chatter could be heard past her room then soon her nickname was called "Jea!"

Hearing it she got out of bed, not bothering to answer back. Then she was called again this time it's her name, and the tone was somewhat irritated "Jeanne!! I swear to god if you're still sleeping I'll drag your sleeping ass out here!"

"Jeez! Stop shouting! So early in the morning too, don't you care about the neighbours?" Jeanne answered back as she came out of her room wearing her favorite comfy outfit, An oversized pastel brown hoodie and a black sweat pants.

"I wouldn't be if you answered the first time. Just because school's on break doesn't mean you get to laze around, anyway what do you want for breakfast?" Her sister said sighing, her hand on her forehead as she moves around the kitchen.

"Toasted bread and a cup of hot milk."

"Two slices?"

"Mhm"

The two ate their breakfast in silence, this wasn't like this before but everything changed when their parents suddenly went missing. Nobody knows nor heard whatever happened to them, though rumours had it that they left their children because they don't want to handle the responsibilities. But the two who were left behind knew that that was not the case at all.

Jeanne cleaned up the table seeing that her older sister already finished hers and started doing the dishes, as she does it her thoughts wonder about thinking where their parents could go, why they left the two of them without any notice and why they did not pack any clothes if they did run away.

"Jeanne, I'm going now" her sister said as she put on her shoes. Breaking her train of thoughts.

"Mhm, take care" she answered back

"I left some money on the table, if you're lazy you can just order for delivery, or hang out with your friends. Just be back before dark or else I'll call you non-stop if I get home earlier than you, okay?"

"Yes, yes, please stop nagging now, you'll be running late for work"

Her sister waved her hand as she said bye and I'll be home soon and with a "clack" the door closed.

Sighing as she wiped the excess water on the clean dishes before she put it on the dish rack.

The clock ticks as time passes by and lunch is almost over, Jeanne who was on the sofa lying on her stomach grabbed her phone on the coffee table, she did a few taps before she turned around and started talking to someone.

"Hello? An An" she said smiling

Her voice was still a little bit hoarse and she answered "hello, did Ate July already go to work?"

(Ate - Ah-Teh: means older sister in the Philippines)

"Of course! What time do you think it is now? Hahaha. Anyway are you free today? Wanna come over? I ordered pizza and fried chicken."

Hearing a few rustles over the phone Jeanne raised her brow in worry as she asked "hello, is everything okay there?

The person called An An, panting as she quickly put on her clothes answered "yep I'm coming over, wait for meee~ don't finish it all by yourself!!" Then she hangs up.

The food she ordered is already here, but she forgot to order some drinks so she texted An An to come and wait for her inside and that she will just go to the nearest convenience store to buy something.

Then a reply came saying okay along with a cute fat cat sticker.

She grabbed a black cap and wore her slip-on shoes, then she went out not locking the door for An An to come inside later on.

She walked around fifteen minutes and she is now standing at the front, just road away from the convenience store but suddenly her vision blackened, her ears ringing as if a bomb was thrown near her.

Jeanne crouches down as she covered her ears with her hands, slowly opening her eyes but instead of daylight she sees a dark sky. She is still at the same spot, facing the convenience store but the only thing that was different was time...

"What the... Did...did I pass out?"

Jeanne quickly took out her phone, the time on her phone was 1:08 pm then it froze for a moment and the time displayed on it suddenly changed to 6:35 pm.

Jeanne closed her eyes again thinking that she is seeing things, slightly laughing at her self and started scrolling through her contacts but what she could see are names that aren't familiar to her, she let out a nervous chuckle as she rubbed her eyes gently again "someone might've played a nasty trick on my phone while I was out cold...hahaha" deep inside she knows that wasn't the case but just to assure herself.

Jeanne opened her chat history with An An's number but it wasn't saved under any name, even her recent messages are odd.

Her own recent bubble chat are still the same as before but the others are not. The reply is cold and even swear at her. Jeanne checked if it is An An's number and it is indeed hers. Her heart started to run wild, it was beating so fast and loud it felt as if it would come out to her chest if she didn't calm herself down.

Jeanne took a deep breath then she typed An An's number manually and called her but instead of An An's gentle voice it was a man's rough and deep voice, he was swearing at her for calling him and sending him some nonsense messages and hung up on her.

After a failed attempt at An An's number she tried dialling her older sister's but instead of the usual irritated tone, it was a gentle one "hello? who is this? I think you might've dialled the wrong number"

Flustered, Jeanne answered "Hello, I think I did dialled the wrong number, I'm sorry. Have a good evening" then she hangs up.

Jeanne stood there, looking around as she said in a low voice "just what the hell is happening"

Jeanne went back to their apartment complex and went inside the elevator and clicked the button going to the 3rd floor. She knows that their home is no longer theirs but she still went and rang the doorbell as she stood at the side, and just as she expected a person did indeed open the door for her but it was neither the people she knows. Jeanne did a slight bows as she apologized and went back to the spot where things went wrong.

Jeanne stood at the side of the road facing the convenience store where everything went awry, it was already 7:20 in the evening. Her stomach grumbled as she hasn't eaten anything.

As her stomach continued to make a sound, she heard a sound similar to a notification sound in her head then it followed a young child's voice.
