Chapter 1 - 1st Blood

A formless gaseous substance appeared in a white space and floated in place.

…Fuuuck…

The substance seemed to quiver and decended slightly, appearing as if it was frustrated.

…Fuck!… Guuh…! Why…? I fucking left them! I fucking died and I left them!

…They shouldn't have to hear that their son died… fuck…

The substance just floated in place, close to the ground and shivering, grieving. This thing depressingly floating on the floor of a white space was a soul.

This soul was of a young man, his life taken too early.

But one of the gods in the universe wouldn't let this young, inexperienced soul end here. They took his soul from the river of cleansing and decided to give it another chance at life, with their memories intact.

And so, the god presented the soul with something familiar to it.

A holographic screen sat in front of the soul reading:

{Would you like to reincarnate?}

{Y/N}

But the soul just floated there without reaction; Thinking of its past life and his failure to stay alive. He grieved for what his parents are going through, as the soul imagined his body being buried as they watched hurt him.

The soul stayed there for what seemed like an eternity. The god who plucked this soul was confused. All they knew was that this soul was too young, but did not know the details of the life they lived.

That god decided to take a peek and sighed in understanding. The god now understood why all souls are cleansed. But this didn't stop the god, as they simply erased the memories of his familial ties of his former life, leaving an artificial memory of being an average orphan.

What…? Oh, I died… At least it's better than going to another adoption interview. Not like anyone would adopt an older teenager like me.

…What the hell is this though…?

The soul finally noticed the holographic screen in front of him and moved closer to it.

Fricken reincarnation?! That Isekai crap is real?! Holy shit… Why the hell not, it's not like I have anything to do in this white void.

The soul reached out with its gassy 'arm' and slowly shook up and down, as if it was chuckling.

But no meeting with a beautiful goddess or a Gandalf-like god, huh? Oh, well, I like this simplicity. Will I have the appearance of my previous self or will I be a new person… or transmigration into another person? I hope it's not a girl if that's the case… I wanna keep my pee-rod, thanks.

The soul pressed the yes option and instantly disappeared.

As soon as the soul disappeared, the god made itself visible.

"Maybe I should've given more options on how he'll reincarnate? Ah, I'm sure he'll be fine…"

"Nnh… Hah…?"

A young man sat up, holding on to his aching head whilst he looked around him. The odd sensation of being able to see more of his peripherals didn't help his headache.

"Now… that's a weird view… is my FOV set to 'quake pro' or something? Goddamn…"

Then the young man noticed something in his new peripheral vision.

"Wha-?! Is that a—!"

The pale body of a person with horns on his head was looking blankly past the young man, the eyes devoid of any life.

"That's a dead fuckin' body…" The young man stood up and shuffled away quickly, but tripped on something.

"A-another one?! What the fuck!"

Under his feet was another pale body, this time a female with smaller horns. She was young, possibly younger than the panicked young man.

"Who… Who the hell killed these people…?"

Calmed by slight anger at seeing a dead woman, the young man gathered himself and stood straight up.

"Calm down, Rolan… Calm. You've just been reincarnated."

The young man, Rolan, looked at his hands. It was was dirty and had dried blood on them.

"Or, in this case, it was a transmigration into someone else's body. At least I'm a guy…"

Rolan then looked at the body of the woman on the ground and the horns on her head, then to the horns of the male.

"They're more like antlers…"

He then bent down and dragged the dead young woman to the base of a nearby tree and did the same with the man. He placed their hands on their belly and closed their eyes.

"I don't know you people, but this body's previous owners might've… I can't bury you, but at least you're more… peaceful looking. I hope you rest easy…" Rolan pressed his hands together and stayed silent for a few moments before turning around.

The two bodies didn't have anything on them, but Rolan noticed a few backpacks on the ground close to where he woke up.

"Let's see here…"

Rolan opened the bags and found a few changes of clothes and dried vegetables and hard rye bread, along with a sheathed dagger.

"Is this the money of this world? Or to a country of it, at least…" A small bag of coins was at the bottom of the bag, sitting next to a few blue crystals.

"These are valuable for sure, but what's this?" Rolan looked at a small card-like metal plate but nothing was on it.

"What's the point of this? What's it do? Whatever, it's a silver color, so it should be valuable for something, right?"

Rolan tossed the plate back and closed the bag, slinging it on his back. The other two bags had very similar items, so he took the plates, crystals and coins. At least as much as his own bag could carry after putting in more important items, like the dried foods.

"It's bad that I transmigrated into the middle of a damned forest, but at least I have 'starting' gear…"

OoooOOOOhhhH!

"…Holy fuck was that…?" Rolan immediately crouched behind a large tree and calmed his breathing. He knew it would be bad to encounter whatever made that loud howl.

"Just hope to god, it ain't a pack of wolves…!"

Rolan slowly crouch walked away from the sound, making sure not to make a noise. Only a few minutes passed of silence before he noticed the direction of the wind.

Fuck, they probably see me by now.

The wind had been blowing against him, which meant that the creature that howled had already smelled him.

He unsheathed the dagger and readied himself for whatever awaits him, his extended peripheral vision of great help in this situation.

Oooh!

Ooooh!

Oooh!

One by one the wolves who were hunting Rolan signaled to each other, making sure the pack were where they were supposed to be.

That's five howls in total. Five fucking wolves after my ass. What a way to introduce me to this world, God…!

Rolan, in his past life, was a gamer. He played a lot of different games. Hunting games, survival games, fighting games, RPGs…

He knew none of the knowledge meant anything when it comes to reality, but with a little imagination, Rolan was confident he could at least kill his pursuers.

"You guys are just wolves, right? No magical bullshit, I hope…"

The first wolf emerged from a bush from his right side, jaws open to tear away a limb. But Rolan was ready, much to his own surprise, he reacted quicker than he expected.

With a swipe of his dagger, the tip of the blade barely slashed an eye on the wolf, causing it to jump back away and into the brushes again.

That was a fakeout! Smart sons of bitches!

Rolan quickly turned his head to his left and locked eyes with the second wolf. Not wanting to get faked out again, with his increased reaction speed, Rolan grabbed the snout of his attacker, being careful not to put his thumb in its mouth, and pulled the wolf towards him.

Let's hope this dagger does some damage!

Rolan spun the knife to an underhand grip and thrusted the knife into the second wolf's head, snapping the knife in half, but also crushing the wolf's skull.

"Sheesh, that knife wasn't worth shit…"

Rolan let go of the dead wolf and tossed the handle of his broken dagger away, blood and grey matter soaking his right hand.

Aoooh!

The howls started again, this time only four responses.

Their counting how many they have… it's still four against one, so they'll take another chance.

Without him noticing, Rolan's bloody right hand was in front of his mouth.

"…Huh…?"

A good smell came from the blood on his hands. It tempted him to have a taste.

His breath slowly began getting rougher, his mouth watering, a dreadful dryness in his throat creeping up…

"Fuck… don't tell me…"

Rolan took a lick of his palm and an exhilaration shot up his body, a wide smile plastering his face.

"Shiiiit!! I'm a fucking vampire!!"

Another wolf pounced on the young man in his lapse, but Rolan was even faster now.

He grabbed the wolf by its open mouth, one hand gripping the mandible, the other over its snout, and ripped.

The skin attached to the mandible teared down to the wolf's chest, exposing bone and muscle.

Rolan pierced the wolf's chest and tore out it's still beating heart, not hesitating to take a bite out of it.

"God, I never imaged I'd do some mortal combat shit, but it taste pretty decent, I'd say!" Rolan happily shouted to himself.

"Who's next!"

While not visible beyond the brushes, Rolan could now hear their exact location from their heartbeats.

"I can also smell you mangy mutts!"

This time going on the attack, Rolan dashed to the smallest heart beat of the remaining three and pierced its lungs with his clawed fingers, a heart gripped in his hands.

He pulled out his bloody hand from the wolf and gulped down the heart whole.

"I'm going insano style, for real~" Rolan smirked, coping with his current state of mind with lingo from his past life.

Aaoooooh!

Only the two remaining wolves howled, and immediately went on retreat, but Rolan shook his head and smiled wickedly.

"Ooooh no. You guys aren't going to survive me!"

Rolan sprinted after the wolves and caught up to the slowest one, grabbing it by the scruff of its neck and violently threw it at the leader of the hunting pack.

The two wolves collided, a crunching snap could be heard from the bigger wolf's lower back.

"Haaah~ You're paralyzed? Good…" Rolan grabbed the smaller wolf who died on impact and cut an incision down its chest.

As the blood streamed down the wolf, Rolan inserted his hand and broke the chest bone away, then grabbed the heart and savored the bloody, meaty organ.

"Surprisingly, I'm still not full, so I'll be enjoying you too, Mr. Pack Leader."

The wolf leader struggled to crawl away, it's back legs unresponsive. Rolan smiled at its struggles and stepped on its limp tail.

"How cute, you want to survive? Sorry, with that limp back of yours, you're officially outta the gene pool."

With that, Rolan ripped the wolf's heart out from its back and ate it.
