Chapter 9 - Consequences: ii

Kaelara, realized too late that she had underestimated the Devourer's power, and watched in horror as her life flashed before her eyes. She recalled the image of a little girl crying and shouting her name, "Lara," as a shadow loomed in the background.

Just as the Devourer was about to drain Kaelara's life force, a claw of light shot out, and struck the creature with incredible force. The claw was followed by a series of swift and deadly attacks that sent the Devourer flying backwards

The devourer let out a blood-curding scream as it's dark energy dissipated leaving only the body of a man laying on the floor barely breathing.

As the battle ended, phelia stood tall, her chest heaving with exertion as she gazed down at the body laying sprawled on the ground, she had taken extra care not to kill the man, but it wasn't easy as it seemed he was at the brink of death, yet his strong soul had manage to survive that, she thought, Suddenly, Her body began to tremble. Her transformed form faltering, she stumbled forward, her vision blurring as her body struggled to cope with the aftermath of using such incredible power, energy spent. She felt herself falling as her transformed form dissolved, and she crashed to the floor.

Her mind went blank, as she closed her eyes and opened them again, Her sliver eyes had returned to normal, no longer shining.

As she lay there, her vision fading to black, Phelia saw a figure rushing towards her, it was Kaelara, her face etched with concern.

Oh, there she is. I'm glad you're alright; you got me worried. Wait, What am I saying?, since when did I start getting worried about people I just met?, Oh well. Phelia thought to herself.

"Phelia, no!" Kaelara cried dropping to her knees beside Phelia's prone figure. "What happened? What did you do?".

Phelia tried to respond, but her voice was barely a whisper. Despite her efforts to stay awake, She finally lost consciousness.

Kaelara, still reeling from the shock of the battle, couldn't help but wonder, "Who are you, Phelia?" She looked at Phelia's body, still clad in the white dress, and saw a person she did recognize, someone far different from the person earlier in battle.

Carrying Phelia on her back, she looked around for a way to escape the enclosed space, Suddenly the wall slid open, running out, Kaelara made her way back to their room, avoiding as many people as possible. She didn't want to draw attention to themselves, not until they could figure out what had happened.

Back at the destroyed passage way, fallen and shattered pieces of the floor and walls, rose up gathering themselves and reassembling into their original state. Meanwhile the body lying sprawled on the floor shone brightly before vanishing leaving the entire passageway restored to its original condition

Kaelara finally made it to their room with the door recognising its occupant, it swung open to let them in, the other roommates were shocked to see Kaelara carrying Phelia's unconscious body.

Kaelara lay Phelia down on the bed worried and called out to her, but there was no response.

The other roommates, seeing that something was wrong hurried to phelia bedside, one of the girls, who had experience with illnesses, injuries and other bodily concern, raised her hand to check phelia pulse by using her first and middle finger to gently press against

the skin on her neck .

Lila's expression turned grave as she felt Phelia's pulse, Her heart rate was increasing in speed, but decreasing in strength. Her lips, earlobes, nail beds, and fingers were all grey, a sign that...she was dying.

Kaelara upon hearing Lila's diagnosis felt a wave a despair wash over her. She begged Lila to do something, anything, to save Phelia's life

Lila, torn between her desire to help Phelia, and her fear of the consequences of using her powers hesitated.

Looking into Kealara's eyes, who gazed back at her with desperate, pleading eyes,

She looked down, and Kaelara took that as a sign that she had given up, Kealara couldn't help but let out a whimper, the image reappeared in Kaelara's mind reminded her of how useless she felt, she always ended up being useless to everyone who needed her help.

Lila gazed down at Phelia face, taking in her long fluttering lashes, pale lips, soft but sharp features, she looked like a deity, an angel even, in her last moments.

Lila turned around, taking a few step away from phelia bedside, but then stopped in her tracks, unsure of what compelled her, she returned to Phelia's bedside.

As Lila's hands made contact with Phelia's body, she began to meditating, golden lights began to emanate from her fingers, The light spread throughout Phelia's body illuminating her skin and hair with a soft ethereal glow.

Lila's eyes closed and she began to mutter a soft incantation. The words were barely audible, but they seemed to hold a deep Ancient power.

As Lila spoke, the light emanating from her hands intensified, filling the room with an intense pulsating energy, the wildflowers opened up and the branches could be seen emitting golden light particles.

The air vibrated with an otherworldly power, as if the very fabric of reality was been manipulated.

Kaelara and the other roommate watched in awe as Lila's magic washed over Phelia's body only to be replenished by Lila's powerful magic.

Lila's hair ignited with a bright golden colour, as she levitated in the air, suddenly Lila's eyes snapped open and she spoke a final decisive word: "vie fue!". The words seemed to release a burst of energy that shot through Phelia's body filling her with a warm golden

light.

As the light began to fade Lila floated back down, standing on her two feet, she stumbled, falling straight to the floor, but before she could fall Kaelara and the other roommate held her up. "Are you okay?" they both asked.

"Yes" Lila replied.

As they all watched Phelia laying motionless on the bed, tears welled up in the eyes of the three girls threatening to roll down, each one of them praying against all odds.

Even if they hadn't know themselves for a long time, they didn't want their roommate to die.

A sudden gasp filled the air, kaelara and Lila looked towards the other roommate, her eyes bulging and mouth agape, she ran towards Phelia's bedside standing silently, turning back slowly towards the others "sh... she's not beating, her he... heart's stopped".

Having super sensitive ears, she could hear how Phelia's heart slowed down before coming to a stop.

The news hit them like a punch to the gut, they both stumbled backwards. Lila falling down to the floor shocked by the news, while Kaelara stared blankly.
