Chapter 107 - 9

You reach the door before it slams shut and hold it open.

"Everyone out!" you shout.

Realizing that you're their only chance, Vani and the occultists swarm past you. You grit your teeth as the Blood-acid washes over you. Your Blood burns, but your unnatural resilience saves you from the acid.

"So," Vani asks Dr. Caul a half hour later in her private office, "what are we going to do?"

She's on Caul's desk, sitting on her hands to prevent them from shaking. You're impressed by her courage in the face of what just happened.

"Return to the party," the Tremere says. She strips out of her sooty dress with the brusque efficiency of someone unconcerned with material things, wipes herself down with a sponge, and lets Vani hand her a slip, followed by a red-and-black kimono.

"But first, Krarr, I need to deal with you," Caul says. "You will remain at Kiowa Xenogenetics until I have composed a response to Prince Lettow. Don't speak." She holds up her hand. The garnet ring flashes dangerously. "And don't worry. My response won't be a bomb I ask you to carry back. But I need time to find a way to accommodate Prince Lettow's orders. Until then, you stay. Vani, show him to his room."

Your things arrive in your room a few minutes after you do. It's a large, well-appointed, windowless chamber that feels like a prison cell despite the comfortable furnishings.

Vani hands you a key card.

"You're not a prisoner," she says. She bites her lip and studies you, as if you've impressed her, but then she just says, "Make yourself comfortable," and hurries back down the hall.

Hmm. Vani might prove a valuable ally if you can win her over.

It looks like you're going to be here for a few nights while Dr. Caul plots how to betray the Prince of Tucson.

You spend the first night noting interesting areas—"incinerator," "organic slurry processing chambers 1-4," "main security"—but large sections of the map are blank. You'll have to explore on your own to get a feel for this place.

The occultists seem a bit suspicious after Dr. Caul's tantrum, but you move among them, chatting and trying to show off your knowledge of the occult sciences.

Unfortunately, your knowledge is limited and the occultists are suspicious. You work them all night, without success.

As you head back to your room, you spot Giselle, Dr. Caul's Blood Bound witch, watching you from the shadows, her green eyes glittering with jealousy and malice. You're not sure how much free reign Caul gives her at Kiowa Xenogenetics, but you'll need to be careful to avoid drawing her attention.

You know absolutely nothing about occult science, and you're not a blood sorcerer, so no. Messing around with any of the weird spidery runes in the restricted areas of the facility would just get you vaporized.
