Chapter 71 - A Farewell II

Standing next to a round window, the sunlight beaming on to his face, was the strangest humanoid that he'd ever laid his eyes on.

Under the man's gold embroidered sailors hat was a strange shifting gray shape. David could make out vaguely human features, but at the same time, the man's entire face seemed to writhe with tiny gray tentacles.

Everywhere one would expect to see exposed skin, the man's hands neck and even his hair, was the same shifting gray surface. The longer David looked at it, the harder it was for his eyes to focus. 

David looked up from the man's crisp white captain's uniform, and found a pair of black eyes, staring through him.

He felt as though he was looking into a bottomless pit, the very depths of the dark ocean, where not even a hint of light reached. 

David's mind came to a standstill, and his breathing became labored, as pressure around his chest, like he was being submerged deeper and deeper into water.
