Two hours later, Eliza stomped out of the interview hall, looking both furious and disappointed.
The reason for her disappointment and furry was simple. She got rejected.
The lady didn't even let her show her resume or her designs. She turned her away simply because she did not wear make up and looked nerdy.
She even called her old-fashioned because of her thick framed glasses.
Eliza looked like she would blow a gasket.
"Ugh, I so want this job." She complained, looking up in agony. Then, the words of the interview lady replayed in her head and her eyebrows furrowed. "I can't believe she called me old-fashioned and tasteless. I would like to teach her a thing or two about taste. Is she so proud because she managed to wear Gucci's latest vest? Ugh, it's annoying." She kept pacing the lobby in wait for Allison.
Eliza placed her hand on her head and sighed, trying to let out her frustration.
"I hope Allison has better luck."
Just then, Allison ran over to her in excitement and held her hands.
"You look so happy. Did you get the job already?" Eliza asked and Allison nodded.
"Yes. Yes I did. Now we can both work out our dreams." Allison said and though Eliza didn't want it to show that she didn't get the job, she couldn't keep up her smile really well.
'I can't tell her I didn't get the job. She'll nag me for sure.' she smiled faintly and Allison caught on to it.
"Why aren't you saying anything?" She asked. "Eli, didn't you get the job?"
"Of course, I... I..." She bit down on her lip and lowered her head. Then, she raised her head with a full smile and said, "Of course I got the job." She said, "What, did you think I wouldn't be able to land it? The interviewers loved my resume."
Though Eliza said this, Allison had been with Eliza long enough to know when she was lying.
"Eli?" She folded her arms. "You know I can tell when you're lying, right?" She reached out to her and wiped the cold sweat rolling down her temple. "You always break out in cold sweat when you do."
"Is it that obvious?" She asked sadly and Allison placed a hand on her shoulder.
"I know it's been your dream. Our dream is to work here. And since these blind eyes can't see your real potential, I think we'd best find a better place to work at." Allison said and threw a bomb. "I'm going to reject the offer."
Eliza looked up, shocked.
"What?!" She exclaimed. "You can't."
"Why not? It's a stupid job." Eliza quickly covered her mouth and looked around to see if anyone heard her.
"Don't say that, Alli. It's your dream."
"No, Eliza." Allison shook her head. "It's 'our' dream."
"Even at that, you can't just throw it away simply because I'm not qualified." Eliza said and looked away.
"Eliza, you're more than qualified." Allison said seriously. "You're just scared to show it. You're scared to go through the past over again, I know it. But Eliza, you're worth more to me than a stupid job and if I can't be in the same building as you, I don't give a damn."
"Jeez, you're really..." She cleaned the tear from her eye. "You really love me that much, huh?"
"Of course, you're my best friend. No, we're sisters." Allison smiled.
"Then do me a favour." Eliza requested.
"What is it?"
"Don't quit." She said,
"Why?"
"I'll find a way to get in. Some way." She lowered her head. "You're right that I'm scared. I'm scared of having to go through the past over and over again and each time I try to face it, I feel a void inside me."
Allison clasped her hands.
"And I will help fill that void." She said and Eliza smiled.
"You already have. So please, take the job. For my sake." She pleaded and Allison had no choice but to give in. She sighed in defeat.
"Fine." She said, "Let's go out. I'll treat you to your favourite."
"And that is?" Eliza asked with a cunning smirk.
"Chilli con carne." Allison mentioned and Eliza smiled. "Come on, I know a restaurant around here that serves it well."
They took a cab to the restaurant and after stuffing themselves full, they returned to Ze Ztar.
