On the 5th day of the siege. The Orcs were charging along the path ways as usual.
But something was different. It was slippery and more of them fell to the lake.
The morale of the soldiers were improving as more dead Orc meant higher survival chances for them.
When most of them were against the gate again. Kiel cast "Basic Fire Blast(D)" and the whole stretch of pathway caught fire.
Tens of Orcs were burning and as they jumped to the moat, to put out the fire, they drowned instead.
The soldiers cheered. For that day, they all had a good rest while they watched the fire burning along the sandy pathways.
Even after the fire had settled. The sand was too hot to stand on.
The next day, the Orcs were more cautious, they no longer charged but carefully checked the path they walked on.
Kiel had not repeated his oil burning strategy. He had suspected the Orcs would be wary of it and he had been right.
So, the Orcs continued to attack the gates while the archers continued to try to kill Orcs with their arrows.
Some soldiers were pouring burning hot oil down in front of the gates.
It slowed the Orcs' progress but inevitably the Orcs would break down the City Gates.
As they left for the day, Kiel estimated there were at least 700 Orcs left and at this rate, it would take another 2-3 weeks to wipe them out and that was if the gate held.
To make the matter worse, none of the Elite Orc Hunters had been participating in the gate siege.
He needed something to deal a big blow to those Orcs.
Kiel went to see Damien and asked for all the Mana Cores he had left.
The Mid Grade Mana Core was still intact and there were about a dozen left of the Minor Mana Core.
Damien was visibly exhausted but he agreed after much persuading. The stress and pressure of the Orc siege would have been too much for the common men. But Damien was not just any man. He was the City Lord so he held on.
"Will that be enough?"
"We can only hope Damien. Say your prayer".
Kiel went and found engineers and blacksmiths to make a catapult for him that will hit target at least 150m away, which was where the main camp was. Then he spent the night carving the runes.
Through the course of the siege, he had killed a few Orcs from the city walls, he was shy about 1000 experiences to hit level 20. However, he couldn't be bothered. Hitting level 20 won't be able to turn the situation around anyway.
On the dawn of the sixth day, the Orc carefully moved along the pathways to check for oil.
Kiel had laid 2 sets of Couple Mana Bombs before dusk in the middle of the pathways.
He had buried the vines along the way to the gate.
Once he saw a good chunk of them passed the trap.
He set it off.
KA-BOOM!!!!!!
The explosion was about 20m radius, and as the Orcs bunched up together to shield each other. The effect had been quite good.
At least 100 wounded or thrown to the lake and at least 70 dead.
With arrows, they managed to kill a few tens more before the rest escaped.
There was a big cavity where the bomb had exploded a 6m gap and at least 2 m deep.
That would buy them at least half a day.
Just after that, the Engineers and Blacksmiths had built him what he asked for.
With that they have to wait for the night to test out the device.
For the rest of the day, the Orcs were too scared to continue the siege.
It would take them sometime to group up for another attempt.
That night, he could see a big bonfire at where the Orcs gathered.
He then called the blacksmith and engineer over and told them:
"I need to launch this to hit the middle of that gathering in 1 shot. Can you do it?"
"We can try, no guarantee my Lord"
A lead Engineer called Thareem answered.
"Get to it. Do your best, our victory might count on this."
"Right away, Lord"
With that, Thareem spent close to 2 hours tweaking, checking and calculating with the rest of the team.
Kiel did not show any impatience. Instead he built a model from clay and stones for something about the same size and weight as his warhead.
Then they were ready.
First shot. Kiel told them to pivot the Catapult then turn them 80 degrees and launch the model he just built.
At least they needed to get the distance right.
He took 2 sticks and a rope, then he went up the wall along the 40 degree line from the catapult.
After that he secured the longer stick on the wall so it would not shift and stay still.
Tie the other stick for a basic measuring tool and get it to eye level. Finishing his primitive tool, he gave the command to launch the model.
They shot to the far side of the lake where it landed with a loud splash but the Orcs were not paying attention to it.
Kiel marked it on his stick and turned the stick to face the campfire. Well, the distance seemed correct.
Then he had them turn the catapult again. Double check the calculation then launch the second load, the mother load with 1 Medium Mana Bomb and 8 Minor Mana Bombs.
This time Kiel did not even want to look. He simply turned around, leant on the bulwark and covered his ears.
Then everything went white and a moment later a loud explosion blasted and the shockwave even reached City Lord Castle.
Taking a deep breath. Kiel was sure he had succeeded.
He slowly stood up and peek over the bulwark.
The Orc Camps were on fire and in shambles.
Then Kiel called out to Damien who was still on the gate wall. Gather your men, charge while they are still disoriented.
Wasting no time, Kiel jumped over the wall and landed on the pathway.
He rushed over with both weapons out he had at least a while more before those elites got up.
He never ran so fast. He leapt over the break in the pathway he made in the morning and arrived in the middle of the camp within 10 seconds.
He had came to reap the incapacitated Orcs' life,
