It's been a year since the "Descent of Legends", a catastrophe that altered the world permanently, making some lives slightly better, and removing the lives of others. Even changing the terrain of every continent.
For all this to make sense, we should go back in time a bit, the day before the calamity. Let's focus our attention on Jiwoon Baek, the man known as [Blitzkrieg_Baron] and the man that holds the record for the fastest character in "Sword-Gun Legends".
While he may still be young, his achievements outweigh that of most professionals. You probably don't know what Sword-Gun Legends is, so let me break it down for you in a quick sentence. "It's a game where you can earn money, and a bloody large amount at that."
Right now Jiwoon is hunting monsters with his best friend, Alice Von Albertini. Unfortunately for Alice, they didn't spot a hidden monster. It only took one shot, and her account was gone. Permanently. In this game you only have one life, and Alice just lost hers.
Some people cry, while others give up and quit the game, but Alice? She just created a new account. Then cried. A lot. It's understandable, because she just lost two years of gaming everyday to a monster with half her strength. This was a disaster for her, but it's not the worst of what's going to happen.
While trying to cheer Alice up, Jiwoon's sister opened his door. It was now lunch time and they were going to a fancy restaurant to celebrate their fathers new promotion. They ate until they couldn't even fit room for dessert, and went back home in a fragrant mood.
After shutting his eyes, Jiwoon felt that something was off, but he ignored it. While trying to sleep, he kept hearing screams. He opened his eyes and saw the sun out, but that wasn't the only thing confusing him.
He witnessed as people were running in fear and getting slaughtered by monsters exclusive to nightmares and horror fantasies. Rhino-like beasts covered in scales, dragons with feathers spewing magma, and even giant snails covering anything they slither over in acidic poison.
If this wasn't hard enough on him, his family was missing. Not even his sister, who bothered him as soon as he woke up, was there. He tried to find a spot to hide when he passed by a mirror. He saw his reflection, and was even more shocked than when he saw the monsters.
In the reflection was not him, but his avatar, the character he used in the game that the monsters came from. He looked somewhat similar because he tried to make his avatar as close to him as possible, but it was still noticeably different. He was taller, his eyes were a different color, and he had on the armor he selected for his character.
Looking at himself a bit more, he realized he should've put on more armor. He only has hip guards, boots and his sword. After looking away from the mirror because he heard another scream, he remembered why he was moving and continued. He was about to leave, but a familiar voice rang through his ears. It was Alice, his best friend.
He froze, not sure whether to run to her or run to hide. He knew the longer he took to decide, the riskier it would be. When he heard her scream again, his instincts kicked in, and his body moved by itself. He saw her lying on the floor, unable to move as a pack of goblins surrounded her.
He tried to run faster, and accidentally activated one of his abilities. He wasn't known as The Flash for nothing. He moved so fast he couldn't even see where he was going, and knocked into one of the goblins. He saved Alice, but now their attention was shifted to him.
The monsters spoke to each other, but it sounded like gibberish to him. They all started charging at him with their clubs and daggers, but the damage of the weapons were too low to even chip at his health. The goblins tried to flee after realizing they couldn't hurt him, but he didn't allow let them leave after they tried to harm his best (and only) friend.
He drew his sword, which felt a lot heavier than he'd hoped it would. He thought he should've put more points into strength, but pushed back those thoughts as he readied his attack. He cut up the goblins one by one, and gained a very small amount of experience.
He saw his status bar appear out of thin air like a hologram as he thought about his stats, and saw a small square with a backpack icon. He tried to click on it, but his hand phased though it. He started thinking about pressing it, and it pressed itself and opened up his inventory.
His inventory was almost empty, except for the healing and stamina potions lining up the first row of storage slots. He leaned down to get closer to Alice, and got her to drink the potion that healed all her wounds.
Even though her body was fine, she was still traumatized. She almost died, and to stack up her shock factor she witnessed her family get murdered in front of her by a group of monsters that shouldn't even exist.
He tried hugging her, but she showed no change in her eyes. Her pupils were constricted and she was shivering non-stop, even after Jiwoon found a blanket and covered her with it. She eventually fell asleep when the sky turned pitch black, with no moon or star in sight.
Jiwoon wondered if the girl with him is really Alice. She sounded exactly like her, but looked nothing like her. He wasn't sure if who he saved was Alice, or CherriBomb. Her beautiful blonde hair was now as gray as the ashes left behind by her explosives, and her outfit was rather... distasteful (in his opinion). While thinking about it, Jiwoon fell asleep.
When Jiwoon woke up an hour before the sun rose, he saw someone run past them. He called out for them, but they were already gone. He wondered if there was really someone there, but Alice(?) called out to him before he could think further.
He went to the room he put her in and sat next to her on a chair he found. She finally looked ready to speak after she had calmed down a bit.
