I was still shaking, trying to catch my breath after Everett almost kissed me. It was a close one and I thought I was going to remember everything that Kyle did to me once Everett touched me and probably have a panic attack but instead, I felt safe and didn't want him to take his hand off me… I wanted him. I gasped wondering how moods could change in such a short time like it didn't even happen… but it did and it was intense. I looked at him where he stood opposite me, his werewolf eyes were gone and he wasn't staring at me angrily anymore, his eyes were still intense but they looked tender this time. For a moment I wanted to run back into his arms and initiate that hug he gave me but I had my pride, I wasn't going to let my guard down.
I maintained a stoic posture and returned his gaze with a glare to show him he couldn't intimidate me but instead, he smirked. The man was smirking! I scoffed and folded my arms over my chest "what's so funny?" I interrogated and his smirk grew into a smile "be at the training ground by 6 am tomorrow and do not provoke me, you saw what it does to me" he replied and my eyes went wide. How could he say that without feeling embarrassed?
He's shameless. I thought to myself "I'm still leaving your pack" I retorted as he walked out of my room "not happening" he answered and stopped by the door then turned to face me "I've changed my mind, I'm not letting you leave anymore" he added and walked away after closing the door.
Dinner went quite well, except for Violet and Theodore kept on exchanging looks between themselves after watching me and Everett for a while. I was sure they knew about what happened between me and Everett in my room because their eyes teased me whenever we looked at each other. I rolled my eyes "would you both stop acting so immature?" I yelled and dropped my cutlery on the table, Violet was smiling at me but her eyes weren't… she wasn't nice to me right from the day I came into this pack
"She yells at us with the same mouth she almost used to kiss the Alpha," Violet said and it didn't sound like a joke, it sounded more like she was trying to start a baseless story in the pack and make me look like a hoe that was already forcing herself on the Alpha. Theodore whispered in Violet's ear but she didn't even look at him "you should mind what you say" I said through clenched teeth.
"Or else what?!" She challenged and my anger got the best of me as I banged my hand on the table, ready to go over the table and fight her… if I could.
"I wanted to kiss her Violet, what's it to you?" Everett interrupted our argument and turned to look at Violet from where he sat at the head of the table. Theodore just watched with rapt attention, looking entertained "Rachelle didn't try to kiss me, I did so don't start rumors Violet" Everett warned her then looked at me and winked I got you, he told me when he linked our minds. I didn't smile back, I just stared at him as he stood up and left for his room.
**********
Morning came and I woke up, the rays were already streaming into the room from the little space the curtain didn't cover. My room was still a mess because I was too tired to arrange it last night and because I couldn't stop thinking about my almost-kiss moment with Everett. I didn't like him, I even hated the fact that he was my mate. Most girls would normally adore the fact that their mate is the king Alpha but for me it was bad, that meant Kyle could easily find me because Everett was the most known and feared Alpha in all of the packs and that threatened my safety. I knew Kyle would make sure to find me and make me pay for pushing him on those shards of glasses and one day, I knew I would have to tell Everett my reason for leaving my pack. My mind kept on running a thousand miles until I fell asleep, this time I had no nightmare.
I got up from my bed and took my time to arrange my room and place everywhere in order. I took a shower and dressed in the clothes that were given to me to wear for the daily morning training. My heart was erratically beating fast at the thought of meeting Alpha Everett at the training ground. Ever since he declared his want for me and how I provoked him into losing control, I didn't know how I was supposed to act around him anymore… and it seemed a bit scary and exciting, strangely. I stared at myself in the mirror and smiled in satisfaction at my reflection. I quickly brushed my hair and rushed out to the training ground… I knew I was late already.
I got there and Violet was training with Theodore. Everett came in not long after I did and came to stand beside me where the weapons were kept "good morning" he said cheerfully and picked a sword before looking at me with a smile plastered on his face "slept well?" He asked me but I just stared at him "what's the cause of the happy mood this morning?" I asked curiously and he shrugged "nothing to bother you about" he replied and walked away. I stared at him until he got to a training spot and choose a partner then began sword fighting. I just shrugged and picked a sword too, ready to learn to sword fight.
I got to a training spot too and a guy came over, I smiled at him and wielded the sword "hey" I told him and he smiled back then recognition set in his eyes and he laughed "oh shit, you're here" he said and I was confused "what?" I asked "remember me? I was among the people that found when you got into our border" he explained but I still couldn't remember him.
"It was rather shocking though, to find a werewolf turned into a naked girl" he added as he wielded his sword and chuckled. I didn't hear him chuckle, his words already blinded me with rage "excuse me?" I said "you heard me the first mate… let's fight," he said carelessly like he didn't just make fun of me.
"I need you to repeat what you said to me… mate!" I told him and let my sword drop to the ground. I knew my anger was leading me but I wasn't planning on letting a man mock me and get away with it. He saw my countenance had changed and his smile vanished "it was just a joke, you shouldn't take it so seriously" he replied and I didn't know how or when but I found myself marching towards him with fury, invisible flames shooting out of my eyes. "And a fucking joke this will be to you too" I retorted and knee balled him. He groaned in pain and fell to his knees in pain. Once I had him on the ground in pain, I felt my anger slowly dissipate from my chest and I felt lighter… then I noticed the eyes and stares, everyone was staring at me. Not with scorn though, they were shocked and I was reckoning that maybe they had never seen a lady knee ball a man.
I looked around and my eyes met Everett's, he was smiling. I couldn't handle the stares and whispers so I walked away from the scene. I guess no training for me today, I thought and sat under a tree to calm myself down. I didn't regret hitting the guy that mocked me. It only felt right to defend me in any situation I found myself in as long as I had the chance to. I had been abused for a long time and tasting freedom now just released the wings I had clasped for a long time so I was ready to fight anyone that pissed me off. A shadow of a person suddenly stood in front of me and I looked up, it was Violet. "Are you here to yell at me?" I asked and looked away but she sat beside me "Nah, you did the right thing. I heard the whole conversation and I agree it was annoying so he deserved that hit" she told me and I laughed "I honestly wasn't expecting that" I told her considering how we always disagreed, I guess she was like me too… she wouldn't let any man mock her and get away with it.
"I'm beginning to like you," I said "same here Rachelle" she replied and we laughed then silence ensued for a while before she stood up and stretched her hand towards me "let's go and eat breakfast," she said, I took her hand as she pulled me up towards her then we walked back to the Alpha's quarters. On our way back we talked quite a lot and I found out we had many similar interests, "Rachelle I want to apologize for what I said yesterday, I know I passed my boundaries. Everett is your mate" Violet told me and I smiled "it's fine, we're cool" I replied to her and took her hand. She smiled at me "it's nice having a female friend, now I won't have to hang out with Theodore all the time" she said and we laughed.
Alpha Everett's pov
To say I was proud would be an understatement when Rachelle knee-balled Skyler, one of the guards and ground trainer. I heard the whole conversation when he was mocking her for being naked and I was beginning to lose my temper too, I was about to walk toward him and give him what he deserves for making fun of a woman and my mate at that but Rachelle had handled the situation perfectly and placed him In his place. I was proud to have her as a mate and my want to have her just kept on increasing the more she showed her temper and what she could do with it. A brave woman that was capable of protecting and handling herself whatever the situation… I guessed that was my type because I loved everything I kept discovering about her, I loved it.
When Rachelle left after knee balling Skyler, I walked over to him and knelt in his front then grabbed a fistful of his and pulled his hair back so he could meet my gaze "Skyler, do not speak to women like they're objects… especially if she's my mate!" I growled and his eyes went wide after what I said sank in "I apologize, Alpha Everett, I made a mistake and it wouldn't happen again" he apologized with fear in his eyes "I forgive you" I said tugged my hand off his hair "but you're to patrol alone for two weeks" I added and walked away towards my quarters not even bothering to see his reaction.
Only Rachelle was on my mind after she walked away from the training ground because I saw Violet leaving too after her. I kept hoping they wouldn't fight with each other. I entered the kitchen to get what to eat for breakfast only to see Rachelle and Violet chatting and laughing with each other "what a relief, I thought you'd both have each other's heads by now" I said as I poured myself coffee in a mug and I met Rachelle's stare, it was blank but not empty. I didn't know what it was but I was feeling more linked to her as the days increased… Violet noticed the mood in the kitchen had changed and quickly walked out like she had something to do.
