Chapter 12 - CHAPTER 12: EVERETT POV

Everett's POV

My eyes suddenly snapped open as I slept on my bed, and I got up with a start. Looking outside, I noticed that although it was still a bit dark, the first rays of sunshine were beginning to make their presence pronounced.

I checked my watch. Five twenty four am, already morning. Another day without me knowing if my mate and Violet were alright or not. I had just had my first night sleep— more like my first sleep in days, since the last time I had got to sleep was the night before my mate had arrived. And I had only got to sleep around three in the morning today, and here I was awake around about five thirty now.

I switched on the lights in my bathroom and went in, rinsing my face with some cold water and looking at it in the mirror. My eyes looked puffy. They looked red and watery each, it was tiring and frustrating to look everywhere but still not get to find out where they were.

But if Violet and Rachelle were taken away, how? It was in fact possible that the werewolves from the Paz pack were able to follow Rachelle, or track her movements down to my pack, but then again, it was more likely that here was a rat in my pack. The fact that Violet and Rachelle were able to be taken away while they were not far from the pack, because I was able to mind link Violet, and if I could, that meant that she was within talking distance.

But who? And how would I ever be able to find out what had happened and who it was that had taken the both of them captive?

Because I was very sure that they had not gone for a mini vacation or for a long term road trip without giving me any information about it.

That was the thing about being an alpha and a brother. Everything had to go well in the pack, and in the family too. Taking the bottle of water that stood on my bedside table, I took a few sips and sat down, trying to think deeper about the current urgent but fragile situation I was in, as a sudden shift in the makings of things, or at the smallest obvious switch up, Rachelle and Violet's lives could be in grave danger. And there was no way I would let them stay in that pack any longer.

Maybe, I could just have Theodore get his most trusted men and have them discreetly follow the movements of the other workers. That way, I was sure that we would be able to catch the rat in our midst with no hassle.

But then again, the rat could even be one of Theodore's most trusted men.

And if only we could go there and get the girls out without any hassle...

But that could only happen if the leaders of the Paz pack were out of the way. And it was not that we could not fight them, on the contrary, it was because of the fact that we knew that we were stronger than that pack, but they would bring Rachelle and Violet up, and threaten to hurt them if we tried to hurt them and the other members of their pack.

I did not know much about them, but I did know that they were ruthless and greedy people.

In the past, they had tried multiple times to overthrow other alphas, to take their packs from them, but they had never been successful.

They loved owning territory, but it was love for an obviously lost cause.

So, if they got salivated at the thought of owning a new pack, then maybe, just maybe they could get them to leave, and then they would be able to get the girls. Mind games kind of thing.

But then again, after weighing the pros and cons of that plan, I let go of it. We were a pack of very strong werewolves, but if the alpha of the Paz pack left for my pack with the main purpose of coming after my pack, then there was a possibility that at least one of my own werewolf would get an injury in the very least.

I really did not want to have anyone injured or in discomfort. I only wished for them to be safe and sound, with the inclusion of Violet and my mate, of course.

Or maybe, we could plan a surprise attack! One of these nights, while the Paz pack snored, we would be there, like thieves in the night, only this time, we were only coming to take back what was ours. As it should be.

It would be an unexpected move and be carried out to perfection to ensure the safety of the two women we were going to save. And it would be an impromptu fight.

I would only have you make sure that my fighters are warmed up and ever ready to their maximum level. Not that they were not always like that, but they had to be extra this time around, we are talking about my mate and my little sister here after all.

And because the people participating in the fights would have no idea of it beforehand, only the selected would have permission to leave, and from the time for the go leave to the next thirty six hours, nobody would be allowed to leave, regardless of gender or status.

Then of course, the rat whom the Paz pack had sent into my pack, or worked around us a lot would try to sneak out of the pack grounds like any other good, loyal spy would.

Unfortunately for the spy, the grounds would be patrolled by guards and they would be given specific information to not allow anyone to pass through. Anyone who was found trying to leave would have to be thrown in the cells with immediate effect.

I mind linked to Theodore, requesting his presence. Looked like he was still fast asleep. Then, I decided to call him, since he had refused to get up early. The phone got picked on the third ring.

"Everett? What— why are you calling me at this time? Why are you not sleeping?" He asked, his voice still groggy.

"I have hatched a plan to get Rachelle and Violet back, I need you to—" The line got cut off with a beep

"Come here" I sighed, dropping my phone.

Soon, I got three urgent ramps at my door.

"It's Theodore, bro. Open up." Theodore's voice came in through the door, and I stood up to let him in.

"Theodore. You came here early." I grinned at him.

"You said you have a plan? I need to know what it involves. And who it involves." Theodore said as he took a seat on my bed.

"Well, if you have thought about this for a while, you would know that the girls would not suddenly get captured. Even a kidnapper needs help sometimes. Most times, actually." I said expecting Theodore to know what it was that would come afterwards.

"There is a spy amongst us. How do we find out who the traitor is?" Theodore asked as he furrowed his brows.

"I was thinking that we prepare an attack on the Paz's pack leaders. But the fighters and warriors must not know about this." I said and i looked at my friend to check if he understood.

"Why?" Theodore asked, obviously not understanding.

"We cannot afford to trust anyone at the moment. And telling them would probably mean giving the spy information and we cannot afford to do that at this time." I explained.

"But if we go ahead with the attack? What then would we do if the traitor is left over here? What if he sabotages us? Our plans?" Theodore asked, and I understood where that worry was coming from.

"We shall set posts for guards and security footage. CCTV cameras. They would be running all through our absence, at least. So we would have double security." I nodded.

"Woah!" Theodore exclaimed.

"You think it is an okay idea?" I asked him, a bit taken aback by his reaction.

"I think that it is a great master plan. I love it very much!" He said on between nods.

"We should take it to the investigation team! They should be able to sort everything else out from there." I told him.

"Yes, yes. I will do that. Try to go back to sleep." Theodore told me as he left my bedroom.

How would I sleep when so much is going wrong? I thought with a tired sigh.

After over forty minutes of turning and tossing on the bed, I eventually gave up on sleep and decided to go to the balcony to get some fresh air. Maybe that would help me clear my mind out.

As I stood outside, taking fresh air, and apparently, waiting for the results from the investigation team, my mind drifted back to Rachelle.

She looked so weak and frail before, just what did she have to go through in that pack? They had probably forced her to do a lot of labor and punished her for the slightest mistake.

I did not blame her for trying to find an escape from the Paz pack anyway. If I were in her shoes, I would have done the same a long time ago without thinking twice.

Suddenly, I began to hear rustling from below me. Thinking it was an animal, I ignored the rustle and focused on the direction of my thoughts.

That was when I heard it, the sound of footsteps leaving. Soft, padded footsteps.

Thump, thump, thump, thump, thump.

Had I been a wolf with normal werewolf hearing, then there would have been a possibility that I would not notice the person trying to sneak out of here.

But alphas and even betas had better hearing than the rest of the normal wolves, except the gifted ones.

Thump, thump, thump, thump, thump.

Whoever it was that had taught this guy had done a very terrible job, obviously.

I mind linked some of my guards, telling them that there was a trespasser at the border, and although, I was sure that they knew what to do next, I still made sure to tell them that they had to catch whoever it was.

With a salute, they went off, and soon, I began to see outlines of some of my men as they performed a thorough combing of the borders and the outskirts.

One of them mind linked me again in about twelve minutes later, telling me that they had caught the young male werewolf that had been trying to sneak out of our pack's border.

"Bring him to me now!" I ordered though the mind link.

"Yes alpha!" He said and I waited for them to belting the lad up to me.

"Sir, should we bring the lad to your room, or to your study?" The same guard asked through the mind link.

"Bring him to my study. That is where I would prefer to see him." I replied, putting on a pair of pants over the shorts I wore and then wearing a pajamas shirt. Then I went to my study to wait.

In a few minutes, I heard a knock at my study door.

"Come in." I said, thinking it was the guard and the captive.

"Well, that was fast." I said and looked up to see Theodore.

"What was fast?"

I sighed. "I thought you were someone else."

Then, as Theodore stood in the doorway, they arrived and the guard dropped the young lad in front of me.

"It was Skyler." He said.

I saw red as I grabbed Skyler by the throat.

"Answer me! How many of you are out there? Tell me how many spies are in my pack?" I spat at him and he whimpered.

"Answer me!" I thundered. "So help me Goddess, I'd anything happens to Rachelle and Violet, you would never see the sunshine afterwards, I assure you."

Skyler continued to choke in my grip
