Amelia froze. She took a deep breath. She was, after all, a socialite who could control her emotions well. A smile lit up her face as she said, "Mr. Hudson, you are a busy man. Let me introduce myself. My name is Amelia Swann."
Bruce narrowed his eyes and replied, "Okay. Miss Swann, are you here to buy shoes?"
She smiled and said, "Yes, I came shopping with a few friends. Mr. Hudson, are you here to shop too?"
Bruce narrowed his eyes and turned to Evily instead. "Miss Evily, are you here to buy shoes too?"
Evily was stunned and she pointed at herself.
"Mr. Hudson, are you talking to me?"
Bruce replied with a chuckle. "Who else am I talking to?"
Evily's lips twitched as she saw that the sudden change in Amelia's expression was horrifying.
"Yes, I'm here to buy a pair of flats." Evily grinned. Since she was here, she wouldn't let Amelia affect her mood.
She turned to the salesperson, "Excuse me, please bring me…" Evily looked around before pointing at a pair of flats. "A pair of those in size seven."
Evily smiled at the salesperson. The salesperson wasn't a fool either. She had guessed that Bruce Hudson was not an ordinary man based on his actions and speech. From what she heard in the women's conversation, her guess was affirmed. When they addressed him as "Mr.Hudson, she quickly realized who the man was.
"Yes, miss. Just a moment, please."
The salesperson went off to get the correct size. Evily then turned to Bruce "Mr. Hudson, are you here to shop too?"
Bruce's eyes sparkled with delight but that sparkle disappeared almost in a flash. He nodded. "I came to meet my friend."
Their conversation affects Amelia greatly. She never imagined the reason Bruce walked up to them was only to talk to Evily instead of her.
How could that whore Evily get his attention? She was just a small video editor in his company.
The more Amelia pondered, the more upset she got. She saw how Evily interacted with Bruce and in contrast, how Brice failed to remember her. The man was chatting to that whore Evily happily. That whore most certainly didn't deserve this!
Her two friends felt the same way as Amelia. At first, they thought Bruce was brilliantly outstanding. No woman would say no to such a handsome man. After noticing that Bruce was wearing a custom-fitted suit, they were certain he was a wealthy man.
They heard Amelia addressed him as "Mr. Hudson" in the City, there weren't many people with the surname Hudson, let alone rich ones. So, it took just a minute for them to realize who the man was.
-----
Evily walked ahead of Bruce for some time before turning back to the man who lagged behind her. "How do you know?"
Bruce's lips curved up. "What do you mean?"
He strode up to her and took the shopping bag from her. His other hand reached out to hold her hand.
Evily was taken aback and she blushed. "What are you doing? People are staring. Let go!" Evily struggled but failed to free her hand. She glanced around nervously.
Bruce's gaze swept over Evily. When he saw Evily acting this way, his eyes crinkled up in delight. "Are you ashamed of me?" Many women would die to be with him. She was the only woman who gave him the cold shoulder.
Evily pursed her lips as her gaze darkened. "I've been Amelia's sister for over two decades. I know her well. She is dead set on stealing everything I like or own. Back then, she took my dolls and toys. Later on, my boyfriend, my parents' love. In the future, she might—"
"You're afraid she'll take me away from you?" There was a hint of amusement in Bruce's icy voice.
Evily paused, obviously stunned. "No. Why would you think that way?" She denied it instinctively before realizing she must've said something wrong because Bruce's face had become dark.
Evily laughed dryly, "Well, that isn't what I meant. You won't be seduced by Amelia. I know your character well." Evily continued, "I just need time."
Evily followed Bruce to his car. After buckling herself up, she noticed Bruce was still staring at her. Confused, she asked, "Why are you staring at me?"
Bruce shook his head and played with her hair.
Bruce's lips thinned. "Do you miss me?"
Evily pushed his hand away. "I don't know. Didn't you say you would be away for at least a week? Why are you back so soon?"
Bruce's eyes scanned her face for some time before his low and hoarse voice sounded.
"Let's not talk about this first."
As he spoke, his body inched closer to her slowly.
Instinctively, Evily pressed her stiff back against the door of the car.
She gave him a hasty glance before she turned her head away. Bruce's warm fingers brushed lightly across her fair and clean face. Then his slightly bent fingers stopped at her delicate chin. He hooked her face and lifted it slowly, forcing her to look into his eyes.
Evily could only gaze at him and smile bashfully.
