Chapter 56 - Training as a Slime (53)

Since it would take some time before the renovations finished, Cori decided to test his new skill 'Swift Steps' and gather the training materials.

"Map. Status. Settings." Cori summoned.

"I better check if there is a privacy setting," Cori thought, wary of the fact that the screen was visible to others. While browsing for the function, he noticed that there was a new option in the screen.

"Monster Training School-Trainees Portal. Hmm...this looks like a school homepage," Cori said, finding the functions similar to his university website on Earth, "I see, so trainees are registered automatically after they passed the test. The class schedules, trainers, and training objectives are all clearly reflected. Even the list of training materials and the titles for required readings are displayed on too." After some minor adjustments, he decided to test out his skills. He discovered that this new skill came with 2 modes. The normal mode allowed him to teleport to any place he had been before and the distance he could covered would be proportional to the amount of QI and mana. The second mode- the phase mode, allowed him to pass through any objects. However, the utilisation cost was relatively higher.

"Swift Steps" Cori mumbled under his breath, slightly embarrassed of his relapsing Chūnibyō. The scenery flashed right before his eyes, teleporting him to the cafeteria. A girl in twintails almost tripped over him. "Who the hell put a stone here! Eh? Cori it's you!" Sam said upon bumping into him in the cafeteria.

"Sorry, I'm still testing out my abilities." Cori apologised.

"You're lucky it's me! Anyway, move it before we miss our breakfast." Sam replied pointing at the long queue of monsters behind her.

Moments later Cori and his senior settled at the dining table.

"The kitchen had outdone themselves with skewered chicken with spicy peanut sauce today and the bubble tea! So refreshing!" Cori cried as he savored his breakfirst with Sam, "This is the taste! This is the taste!"

"Food is just food, you're just exagerrating," Sam said taking another bite of the food.

"Senior, how can you say that when you just had your third plate of satay! And second cup of bubble tea!" Cori pointed out.

"I just have a big appetite," Sam said with pride and burped, " So my junior have you decided to shadow any senior yet? Would you like to shadow me?"

"Shadow?" Cori said, puzzled.

"No way! You didn't know?" Sam said in exasperation and looked at the annoyed little junior. She curled her hair with her finger in contemplation. "Well, can't help it if you are new after all! Basically, juniors follow their seniors around on the first 3 days to familiarise with the environment and the schedule. And at the end of it, the seniors will write a reccomendation letter to the junior's desired Master to receive tutelage from, on top of the normal training."

"Master as in the trainers?" Cori asked.

"Well my little junior, all trainers are definitely Masters in their own field, but there are also hidden Masters in this school who are not trainers," the twintail senior adjusted her spectacles and said in a serious tone, "Some could be presidents or instructors of the extra-curriculum activities, but there is a Master so elusive that he is known as the Master of hide and seek."

Cori, overwhelmed, asked Sam, "Is it a must to have recommendation letters?"

"Well, it is not a must. But it is definitely the quickest and surest way. After the Master receive the letter, there will also be consideration to receive you as an apprentice. The Master will also initiate your first evolution through a series of quests. Luckily, I took after the good parts of my parents and managed to receive a blessing from Master for the evolution," Sam elaborated further and took a few sips from her bubble tea.

"The duchess said I have to learn from all the Masters in the academy," Cori's tears rolled down his jiggly cheeks in realisation of the difficult days that lie ahead of him, "Please help me senior!"
