Chapter 3 - chapter 3

"Will only black tea do?"

After all, Xi Wei had only stayed in this house for three days, and there were many things he didn't have prepared yet. He couldn't possibly spend his faith to buy those things.

To be honest, these three days could be said to have been Xi Wei's second life as a human (god?) This was the poorest life he had ever lived.

He missed his phone, computer, and food delivery …

"It's fine, it's fine, even if it's just plain water, I don't mind!" Eleena replied, her body swaying in her chair. Her silver ponytails swayed rhythmically with her movements.

After making her a cup of black tea, Xi Wei took out a plate and cut up the roast meat from the basket into steaks and placed them on the plate. Only then did he bring the plate to the old wooden table.

The little girl's eyes lit up and she immediately stabbed a piece into the meat with a wooden fork. Just as she was about to put it into her mouth, she suddenly noticed Xi Wei's gaze, and so she suppressed her impatience and ate the meat in small bites like a young lady.

"You don't have to mind me so much." Xi Wei couldn't help but smile bitterly. "Just eat whatever you want."

"No, my father told me to be cultured," Eleena said with a straight face.

"Oh?" Xi Wei raised an eyebrow.

He remembered that Eleena was an orphan, and was currently living with her uncle.

"Ah, Mister Xi Wei, what do you mean by that expression? Don't you trust Eleena?! " The little girl said unhappily, but the corner of her mouth was still stained with the sauce from the roast meat, so she didn't seem threatening at all.

"No, I just think it's a little strange that someone in a remote village like Kennington would care about things like manners."

Xi Wei explained.

Actually, his words were slightly belittling Kennington Village. If it was someone else from the village, Xi Wei definitely wouldn't have said that. But after these few days of interaction, he felt that Eleena wasn't the kind of blabbermouth who would go around spouting nonsense, so he didn't mind saying it in front of the little girl.

As expected, Eleena didn't seem to realize this at all. She only pouted and complained, "Before my father passed away, he said that my mother used to be a noble lady in the city, and that I might have the chance to meet my relatives there in the future, so I have to cultivate the habits of a young lady. But I think those manners are so troublesome … "

At her words, Xi Wei felt like he could imagine ten seasons and a hundred and twenty episodes of a Europa medieval fantasy romance drama.

But as a God, he was not too interested in mortal family stories, so he simply changed the topic.

"Eleena, what gods do the people in your village believe in?"

"My dad believes in the God of Hunt and the Goddess of the Forest. Grandpa Chief and Aunty believe in the God of Harvest and the Lord of the Mountains. My dad wants me to believe in the God of Light like my mother …" The little girl counted with her fingers.

"What about the God of the Harvest? Did the harvest in the village improve?" Xi Wei asked.

"Hmm, probably a little better?" The girl answered absent-mindedly, but from her expression, she didn't seem to think much of it.

"I don't believe in the God of the Harvest, and I have nothing to do with the Naturalists. You can just say whatever you want to say. It's fine."

"… Actually, it's not that useful. Last year, the harvest of chestnuts and potatoes in the village was almost hounded to death by the tax officials." The little girl said indignantly.

Xi Wei understood that. It was all to be expected: most of the peasants would believe in two or more gods at the same time, which further divided their already limited time to pray, and left most of them as shallow believers.

After all, the prerequisite to becoming a true believer was to wholeheartedly believe in one or two gods that were subordinate to each other.

Moreover, the lack of faith also meant that the blessings that the peasants received from the gods were almost negligible. In fact, they were not much different from the farmers and mountaineers back on Earth who relied on the weather to make a living.

In fact, even if the peasants wholeheartedly believed in one god, their prayers would still be too insignificant and have almost no chance of attracting the attention of the gods.

It should also be mentioned that no one would believe in more than three gods at the same time (unless all three were of the same divine system or subordinate deity), or they would be seen as an overzealous believer, just as unlikeable as a non-believer.

The reason why the commoners would still believe in the gods despite their miserable lives was firstly to find spiritual sustenance, and secondly, it was because the other churches used the commoners as leeks to collect faith. The various churches almost monopolized medicine, knowledge and most of the manufacturing industries.

If a commoner wanted to be healed, they would have to worship a god. If they encountered bandits or beasts, they would have to worship a god if they wanted help from the Sacred Army. In fact, they would have to worship a specific god if they wanted to buy certain goods … Unknowingly, even if the gods didn't actually help their lives and even made their lives more difficult, the commoners would still choose to worship some gods.

"By the way, what god do you believe in, Mister Xi Wei? The Gospel of Life? Or the God of Light? " "Your healing spells are so powerful, you must be worshipping a powerful deity!" Eleena asked Xi Wei curiously.

Hearing that she was finally getting to the point, Xi Wei immediately perked up. "I believe in a very rare and great god!"

"What? What?" The girl's attention was caught as expected, and she asked curiously.

"Have you heard of the God of Games?"

"The God of Games?" The girl shook her head honestly. "I've never heard of it …"

"It's a great god with countless powers, but it's because he's too great and omnipotent that the other gods are jealous of him. In the end, he was banned by the gods, and he's not very famous in the mortal world." Xi Wei told the girl seriously. "I'm the preacher of that handsome and great god, and I'm looking for someone to become the Saintess of the God of Games … Eleena, do you want to be the Saintess?"

Even though it sounded like he was trying to abduct a little girl, Xi Wei wasn't a lolicon. It was just that the person he interacted with the most after coming to Kennington Village was Eleena.

At the same time, he felt that Eleena was cute and innocent, and had a good aptitude. She could be a qualified preacher.

"Saintess?" The girl's mouth was wide open, and her eyes were wide open. She looked very adorable.

"That's right, a Saintess! As long as you join the Church of the God of Games, you can immediately become a Saintess! "Xi Wei continued to persuade her.

But after thinking for a long time, the girl still shook her head.

"I'm sorry, Mister Xi Wei. Thank you for your kind intentions, but I still want to follow my father's wishes and believe in the God of Light."

"I see …" Xi Wei sighed heavily after his failed attempt at persuasion.

He didn't continue to force the girl to listen to him. After all, faith wasn't something that could be forced.

He had failed. As expected, it wasn't that easy to kidnap a Saintess after only knowing her for three days.

Fortunately, he wasn't completely done for. The remaining divine energy would probably last him for another four days, but he didn't know if he would have to leave Kennington Village and try his luck in another village, or if he would continue to stay in this village to farm favorability.

Even if he couldn't get a Saintess for his church, it would be good to have one or two true believers …

"Um …" Eleena looked pitifully at the steak on her fork, then back at Xi Wei. She asked carefully, "Can I still eat?"

"Eat, eat …"
