The crunch of the sand reached into Corvin's ears as the beautiful girl slowly stepped towards him. She was wearing a light leather armor beneath the white fabric over her. In her hands was a basic spear, one that was used by city guards. The only difference being, the spear's handle was cut to fit the girl's height. Corvin's hand touched the white sword on his hip, but he didn't draw it. He didn't have his armour, so he didn't want to fight.
"Who are you?", he asked with a cold voice and added while pointing at his unmoving friends "Did you do this?"
"You don't need to know. All you have to do is die. Then everything will be normal.", said the girl while looking at his face with an emotionless gaze.
"You are in front of the king and the knights. Do you think they aren't trained to combat whisperer magic? If I were you, I would run away before the guards come back to themselves and end your life."
"Really? Let's see if they do then."
Janeen moved her hand towards the knights and pointed at Corvin. The two knights turned towards him and one of them unsheathed his sword. Corvin leaped away from the knights with his magic and pulled out his sword as well.
One of the knights ran towards him. Corvin leaped backwards once again.
Thud!
"Gah!"
He hit a dirt wall that was never there before, losing his breath. The knight that ran towards him swung his sword and almost severed Corvin's head from his body if Corvin hadn't used magic to slow the sword down.
'Of course they use magic! These are royal guards!'
Just as a sudden hopelessness rose inside of him, another slash came from the right. Corvin carefully pushed himself to the left and almost stabbed himself into a dirt spike on the ground. He jumped over the spike, the spike got longer and almost pierced him sideways. He pushed himself with his magic once again, the spike could only scratch his side.
As the dirt started returning to how it was before, the knight near Corvin slashed towards him once again. Corvin swung his sword to block the attack right before suddenly stopping his sword and using his magic to get away from the knight's attack.
'What was that?!'
He felt a massive increase in the movement of the oncoming attack out of nowhere. Corvin stared at the knight for a second and noticed a faint red hue around him. Something that could be nothing except the personality of someone's magic.
'I see... Using magic to make himself stronger, like Kharon...'
The knight stepped towards Corvin with his sword on his side at knee level. Holding the hilt with two hands, the knight swung the sword in a big arc. The dust under the moving blade, lifted from the ground, indicated how strong of a blow it was. If Corvin blocked an attack like that, even though his sword that was made out of a colossus' remains wouldn't be affected much, his arms would be hurt badly and he might lose the ability to fight. He had no choice but to evade the deadly attacks while trying to find a way to get out of this situation.
'What is this?! Why did she suddenly start trying to kill me?! Does she think I did something to her back then? I was just trying to help her!'
As hopelessness rose even more, Corvin opened his mouth as he jumped away from another oncoming attack and barely saving his life.
"Wh-Why are you doing this? I-I didn't do anything to you back there! You suddenly collapsed and- Hakh!"
Corvin got slammed to the ground by a wall of dirt and a sword landed next to his throat. A cold voice came from where the girl stood.
"Oh, you didn't do anything to me, yet. But, I know people like you. You act as if you are so great and noble. You act as a good human helping others, yet at the end, the only thing you want is power and respect."
"What?"
"You say you want to bring happiness to the world, to make life easier for others. But, at the end you will destroy it, won't you? I am not going to let anyone take from me again. Never. That's why I am going to kill you. But, before I do that, I need to see you despair more."
"What are you talking abou- Guh!"
Before he could finish his sentence, Corvin was lifted by the collar and threw on the ground by the knight in front of him. The knight took Corvin's sword from the ground and threw it in front of him.
"Get up and fight. Today will be long.", said Janeen.
'What did I do!?'
Before Corvin could ask the question in his mind, even before he could properly open his eyes because of the dust, he felt a massive momentum coming towards him. He rolled and pushed himself to the side with magic, and was stopped by a dirt spike. When he stopped moving, the ground under him got lower and turned into a hole.
Corvin leaped out of the hole but before he could get away from it, a piece of dirt grabbed on his ankle like a whip and slammed him to the ground.
"Kahk!"
'They are just playing with me!'
Right before a new wave of hopelessness washed over Corvin, his eyes caught a glimpse of a bag.
'Amy's bag... If I could get some of her pills...'
With a new plan, Corvin suddenly threw himself towards the bag with magic. Also pulling the bag towards himself, he leaped high into the sky and hovered while quickly searching for the leftover combat pills she made.
"There!"
After picking the pills, he threw them into his mouth. They tasted as bad as ever but he ignored it. Right as he landed, he felt a movement behind him. Expecting an attack, he quickly turned back.
"Oh, right. I forgot about these friends of yours. Let's see if you are still going to be as slippery as before?", said Janeen in a mocking tone.
In front of him, behind the two knights he was fighting, his friends slowly got up without expressions. Noah took out the small flute he carried in case of emergency and started playing an energetic melody. Amy took out a familiar dark bottle from her belt and walked towards the knights.
'That bottle... Isn't that the bottles she uses for poisons? She carries those around?! How much do you like poisons?!'
Corvin's questions found no answers, and instead, a sudden weight got on his shoulders and he felt his energy getting drained from him.
'Ugh... This is Noah's magic definitely... How am I going to survive?'
