Chapter 61 - C60- The Moth and the Warriors (1)

The movements of the caterpillar slowed down just a little bit, but the strenght was still present as Corvin could still feel the ground shaking slightly wherenever the caterpillar shook it's stuck leg while trying to get it out of the ground.

'Eight crystals left...'

Corvin used his magic to make his voice reach Noah and the girls just outside the entrance of the room that was covered by a thin layer of silk.

"Hey, everyone! Ready your guns, I need them. Put them on the ground near Noah, and I will get them. I need all of them."

After saying that, Corvin aimed his gun towards another spike on the back of the bug and shooted without hesitation at the first chance he got. While he was aiming, Clair and Amy took out their guns and entered the room. They looked at the giant caterpillar as they placed the guns on the ground.

"Is Corvin really fighting that thing?"

"Why are you asking, isn't it obvious?"

"I don't know... Doesn't that caterpillar look cute?"

"Huh? If it wasn't bigger than me, maybe it would look cute."

Boom! Shatter!

"Clair... Look at that! There are crystals inside the caterpillar."

"Right, I get what you mean..."

Clair turned towards Corvin, who was pulling a gun towards himself with magic form far away, and shouted.

"Hey! Corvin! Can you get one of those crystals whole? It might make great material!"

Corvin stood still for a while. Even though his attention was on the caterpillar, which just got it's leg unstuck from the ground, he still heard her request. He nodded, and then Clair heard Corvin's answer right next to her ear, which was confusing for her because Corvin was far away in her vision.

"Okay, but I will get a break from the factory work for a week once we return."

"Isn't that too much?!"

"Hey, I almost died when attacking those things from close."

"...Okay, you will get a week off from factory work..."

Corvin aimed the gun towards the centipede which was walking towards him.

"Those guns are actually useful sometimes, eh?"

She said and left the room with Amy again.

"It really feels weird how we can hear him so close when he is far away. And when did he even think about using his magic like that?", asked Clair.

"Isn't it because it is him? I wonder how many ideas he tried when he first discovered his talent."

While the girls were having a chat, Corvin was aiming the gun towards the caterpillar for the fourth time.

The caterpillar ran towards him and smashed the ground with it's two front legs. Corvin jumped to the air from the place he was standing on, which had a deep scar just after he jumped.

He pushed himself into the air and aimed his gun.

Boom! Shatter!

'Five left...'

He shattered another crystal, and threw the gun towards Noah while pulling a new one with magic. He suddenly felt a resistance coming from the gun, and he glanced at the gun for a second. It was suspended in the air, and he catched the slight shine of the silk that the caterpillar used to constrain him around the gun.

He ran towards the gun and unsheathed his sword to cut the strings around it. The strings moved around at speeds faster than he could see because of their thinness, so Corvin decided to take the other one.

While he tried to pull another gun to himself, the otehr gun also was caught by the silk, and even more importantly, Noah's music slowed down.

Corvin looked at Noah, who was struggling because of the threads of silk trying to stop him from moving his bow to play the violin.

'How did I forget about him?!'

Corvin forgot about Noah because the girls were outside the room and he thought he didn't have anyone to protect. But to get the effects of Noah's magic he had to hear the melody, which is why Noah is inside the room.

Corvin couldn't expend the mental burden that would come from using his magic to make Noah's music reach his ears, but forgot about Noah when he was in danger.

"Sorry Noah!"

He apologized as he leaped towards Noah with a speed he never moved at before. He left a light green trail behind him as he shot towards Noah and cut the silk that were constraining him in less than fifteen seconds.

'The best in the world would have done that in at most one second... I still have a lot of ways to go...', thougth Corvin while biting his lips.

"Noah, you can cast a barrier to protect yourself... I am sorry."

Noah nodded and changed the tone of his melody a little bit. Corvin was angry at himself for putting his friend in danger, and because of his slight anger, he jumped towards the caterpillar with an even faster speed than just now. He flew straight towards a spike while readying his sword to cut it right from where it connected to the body.

As he got closer, the caterpillar moved it's legs, but the weakening effect of losing five of it's crystals made it hard for the bug to stop Corvin at that speed. And Corvin flew towards the spike while leaving a light green trail behind him, and he swung his sword just before he hit the caterpillar.

Shwing~ Clink!

The spike was cut clean, and the crystal inside slipped out of the skin covering it and fell on the ground. Corvin kicked the caterpillar with his leftover momentum, and managed to push the bug five meter away.

He used his magic to send the crystal towards where Noah stood and told the girls that they could take it if they wanted to using his magic. He pulled the two guns towards himself, and also jumped towards them at the same time.

The guns were constricted again, but he quickly cut the threads and took the two guns.

'Is it because I am destroying the crystals? The threads are getting weaker...'

He aimed the guns at the same time while the caterpillar was running towards him. He felt the threads that were trying to disturb his aim, but he didn't care about it.

He only had to point the guns at the general direction of his target. The rest could be assisted with magic, even though it is annoying and tiring.

BOOOMM! SHATTER!!

As the crystals shattered, Corvin felt his vision getting darker as well. Corvin slapped himself and got rid of the darkness. He looked at his target.

"-!"

He missed. Two crystals were still standing inside the spikes, but he was out of bullets, and out of mental capacity to cast any more magic. He was going to pass out in under a minute if he stood still.

'Is it over?'

As he was thinking about that, he felt great movement from the location of the caterpillar. As survival instincts, his hazy mind became clear in fear and he watched the caterpillar's movements. The two surviving spikes on it's back were entering it's body as the spikes got shorter while seconds passed.

The caterpillar shot a thick thread of silk straight upwards and lifted itself up. It was hanging from the ceiling. The caterpillar moved and held the thread with it's four pair of prolegs, and moved it's mouth around it's body. As the spikes got smaller until they disappeared, silk appeared around the bug, and it closed itself inside a cocoon.

'What is happening?'

Was Corvin's last thought before passing out from exhaustion as his survival instincts calmed down and his hazy mind came back.
