Chereads / THE BILLIONAIRE LAWYER AND HIS INTERN / Chapter 3 - CHAPTER THREE

Chapter 3 - CHAPTER THREE

PHOEBE

I woke up feeling refreshed and completely stress free. I got up from the bed, yawned and stretched. I took a few short steps to the bathroom to brush my teeth, as soon as I was done, I wore a pair of yoga pants and a tank top, then I took a mat out to the verandah to start my daily yoga routine. I've always loved doing yoga, especially in the early hours of the morning when I'm the only one awake with my thoughts.

I finished, took my bath and put on my 'staying at home uniform' consisting of a pair of shorts and a tank top. I proceeded to the kitchen where I'd cook breakfast for my roommates and I. My roommates are also my course mates and best friends; Amanda and Thea. I don't know how those girls will exist without me.

I brought out the eggs, sausage and bread from the fridge fully stocked by me although we each make our monetary contributions, I was the only one willing to go for weekly grocery runs. As I was prepping the ingredients, Amanda slammed the door of her room and came out.

'Be quiet!' I hissed. 'Do you want to wake Thea?'

'Oops, sorry', she whispered and sat down on a counter opposite me in the kitchen munching on an apple

She's a gorgeous black woman with chocolate colored skin, beautiful, big brown eyes and the biggest and bounciest afro you had ever seen. She's not much taller than my 5 feet.

Our other roommate, Thea is white and the tallest amongst us, almost 6 feet tall. She has waist long, straight black hair which she leaves unpacked most of the time. She's model thin with beautiful blue eyes. She has no shortage of boyfriends, she always has a different guy stay over more often than not. She has not stopped after several scolding from Amanda and I, we've left her to her devices and advised her to be careful.

Unsurprisingly, she came out of her room in a bathrobe leading an Asian guy out of her room .

'Good morning, guys.' She greeted and the guy waved at us as he was leaving.

I shook my head

'What's for breakfast?' Thea asked

'Toast, Eggs and sausage.'

'What did you guys do after I left you at the cafeteria?'

'We went to that new bar in town, got drunk then left, someone left with a stranger while others left alone.' Amanda answered looking at Thea and chewing with her mouth wide open

'Ew!' Thea and I complained. 'Eat with your mouth closed.'

'Have you thought about the internship?' Amanda asked, with her mouth closed this time, thankfully! Thea also raised her head from her plate to gaze at me in curiosity.

'Not really, but I'll be talking to my brother, DJ about it later this afternoon'

'Alright.' They replied.

We didn't talk much after this, we just focused on our breakfast and ate quietly. Thea and Amanda offered to clean up and I left them to it.

I went back to the room, picked my phone and dialed my brother DJ's number. He's the one I'm closest to out of the rest of my siblings. The others are wayyy older than me and I've never really connected with them. I've been told I'm my parents' surprise baby. I was born after my mother thought she was past her reproductive years.

Hence, the wide age between me and my older siblings. Why, my first older sibling, Micheal is 39, making me 19 years younger than him. My elder sisters, Daphne and Eliza are aged 37 and 36 respectively. Because of the wide gap in our ages, they feel more like aunties and an uncle than siblings. We just never had the time to grow up together, by the time I was born, they were ready or almost ready to go to college. I still love them though

I dialed DJ again, he never picks his calls on time! He's the only sibling closer to my age with a 9 year gap. We get each other and my absolute favorite. Finally! He picked the call at the last ring.

'Hey, little sis, how are you doing?' He greeted

'I'm fine, where did you put your phone? You never pick up your calls the first time I call you.' I complained.

'I'm sorry, Pheebsy' He wheedled, calling me my childhood nickname which I like as long as it's private. 'You know you're my favorite sis'

I rolled my eyes at his obvious flattery

'Okay, okay, I accept your apology. Anyways, I wanted to talk to you about something really important, are you free now?'

'No, Pheebsy. I have to attend an emergency meeting right now', He said hurriedly. 'Can it wait?'

'Yes, but call me as soon as you're done.'

'I will, love you sis'

'I love you too.'

I dressed up to go to the library as I didn't have much to do. I said goodbyes to Amanda and Rhea. Just as I got out of my dorm building, I saw a familiar car in the park as well as a familiar back. The owner of the back turned and I saw my brother, DJ. I shook my head, but he was still there.

'DJ', I shouted running to hug him. He turned just in time to catch me and hug me back.

'Is this your emergency meeting?' I asked, smacking him on the shoulder after hugging him for like 10 minutes.

'Is this the thanks I get?' He chuckled.

I hugged him again because I've missed him so much

'Come, he said, opening the front door for me. 'Let me take you to that Cafe you've raving about and talk about everything'

We ordered our preferred coffees and pastries and moved to one of the tables outside.

'So, what's the important thing you wanted to talk to me about', He inquired.

'It's about an internship. My lecturer called me to his office yesterday to inform me I'm the only one yet to sign up for an internship. I thought there was still time and I put it on a back burner. Now, I've got to get an internship very fast. I messaged few law firms in New York, but they've filled their quota of interns. I don't know what to do,' I sighed.

'Oh, I see. Is it a must you do it in New York? '

'Yes! I want to be close to the women's shelter and continue my work there.' Most women at the shelter are running from abusive husbands with their children and with only the clothes on their backs. I like to do the little I can by offering legal advices.

'Okay, don't worry. I have a friend here in New York who owns his law firm. He's a family lawyer, and very good at his job. I'll ask him.'

'Really? Thank you, thank you.' I effused

'Don't thank me yet, he might refuse'

We continued talking and after a few hours, he drove me back to the dorm. I hugged him and said my goodbyes.

'Don't forget about the call, I'll be waiting for your feedback.'

He waved and gave me a thumbs up.

I smiled and bounced up to my dorm
