The navy's rifles erupted, but all their bullets pelted against a sturdy, emerald-green wall of vines conjured by Lyra. Though the bullets penetrated, they only breached halfway through the resilient shield.
"Phew. This wall o' yours be a grand asset," Jack remarked, giving Lyra a grateful nod.
Lyra scoffed. "Aren't you concerned about your mate over there?"
"Mary? Nay. She's a fierce one, strong enough to take down that scoundrel. Even if I wished to lend a hand, I'm too feeble," Jack admitted, frustration evident in his tone.
Lyra's gaze turned sharp. "Ah, I see. You are the most ineffectual pirate captain I've ever come across. Depending on her, a woman, to constantly save you or vanquish your foes… a coward."
Jack chuckled bitterly. "Seems yer disdain for pirates be as strong as ever, Lyra. Still distrustful, are ye?"
