Chapter 12 - SUCCESSFUL OPERATION

I stepped outside the Uber and thanked the driver before heading towards the hospital gate.

As I passed by, the gatekeeper greeted me, saying, "You're back, and you seem to be in a good mood.

"Due to my frequent visit to the hospital,I became friends with him.

I offered him a warm smile and replied, "Every day shouldn't be a gloomy day," before continuing my walk toward the hospital entrance, my thoughts already preoccupied with my visit to her mother.

I walked into the hospital and was greeted by Maria, the receptionist nurse who offered a compliment about my appearance.

"Thank you, Maria," I replied with a smile. Once I got up to the second floor, I made my way towards my mother's ward and was surprised to find it empty.

I began to panic and looked for a nearby staff member, and eventually found one and asked "Why's ward 102 empty?" The staff member shrugged and replied, "I don't know, I'm not in charge of this floor.

" This only increased Layla's panic. I made my way back to the nurse's station and asked Maria, "Sorry for disturbing you, but my mom's ward is empty, and..." I paused and waited for Maria to continue.

"Oh, I thought you knew...we received an email that we should commence with your mom's operation and that your debt has been paid. We really thought it was you.

" Everything that Maria had said felt like an endless echo in my head.

I could not believe that everything I heard was real, I was filled with overwhelming joy, too overwhelmed to process anything else around me.

"Are you being for real?" I asked, my voice filled with excitement and confusion.

Before Maria had a chance to reply, I quickly went on to ask "Where is she?" Maria directed me towards the theater and I quickly rushed there in a hope to confirm what Maria had told me,my heart racing with anticipation and hope that my mother would really be okay at the end of the day.

I arrived at the theater and watched my mother from outside the glass separating me and the surgery room.

There were six doctors clad in green coveralls with nose masks, who were all operating on my mom.

I couldn't see exactly what they were doing due to one of the doctors blocking my view, but I couldn't help but feel nervous for my mother's wellbeing as I prayed she would come out healthy.

After standing for a few minutes, I ultimately decided to sit down in the waiting room, too anxious and worried to continue waiting outside the room.

I decided to call Alex to thank him for his help. I dialed his number and waited anxiously for his response.

After three rings, he finally answered. "Hello, Mr. Romanov," I began, "I just called to thank you for your help.

I was told that you cleared up my mom's bill." Alex responded in his deep voice, "I'm just fulfilling my part of the agreement, Miss Layla. You're welcome.

Don't forget our dinner." He stated, before promptly hanging up. I didn't think much of his actions as I was very happy.

After waiting for close to 2 hours, I decided to take a quick break and head to the hospital cafeteria to get something to eat.

Once inside, I ordered a pretzel and orange juice and made my way back towards the theater to check on my mother once more.

As I drew closer to the theater, I noticed that the doctors were leaving the room. Surprised, I rushed up to one of them and asked "How is she doing?" The doctor responded while pulling off his gloves, "She's stable now, she's just asleep and might wake up in a day or a few hours.

You're lucky that the operation was done now, otherwise the fat formation around her vital organs would have made things even more complicated.

I recommend checking up on her later in the evening to see if she's awake." "Thank you, doctor" I thanked him as I entered the room. I slowly walked up to my mother's bed and sat down next to it, taking her hand.

My mother's hand felt cold in my grasp, but I continued to hold on to it and began speaking to her, even though she could not hear me. "You'll finally get better now," I mumbled, "You won't believe everything that's happened since you became ill.

I'll be getting into a marriage contract with a guy who paid for your surgery, Mrs. Taylor kicked me out of the house, and I'm crashing with Julie." I pleaded with my mother to recover soon.

I decided that after two hours of waiting, it was time to leave. I made my way back to Maria, requesting a call once my mother woke up. Maria assured me that she would do so, and I walked out of the hospital.

I decided to stroll down to the park to get a snack, since I was feeling happy about my mother's successful surgery.

After a 10-minute walk, I arrived at the park and bought some popcorn, ice cream, and chocolate. I then proceeded to hail a public bus that would take me back to my bus stop.

Once I stepped aboard the bus, I took out my phone and opened Instagram. While scrolling through my newsfeed, I noticed a recent picture of Josh who was all dressed up in a black suit, standing next to Claire and both of them smiling excitedly in front of the camera.

As soon as I saw the picture, I quickly logged out of the platform and plugged in my headphones, playing music to drown out my thoughts and replace it with thoughts of my mom, especially her memories of Josh.

A few minutes later, I reached my bus stop and made my way back towards the house. I approached the house and noticed Julie coming out with a trash bag, listening to music on headphones and unaware of my return.

Once she noticed me, she greeted me, "Oh, you're back..." She then proceeded to ask "Are those ice creams?" I replied with a nod and informed her, "Yes,it is.

I'm so happy, my mom's operation was successful so I decided to get a few snacks" Julie smiled and replied, "Oh my goodness, this definitely calls for a celebration.i knew accepting Mr Romanov offer was a good idea.

I just downloaded a new movie, so we'll be watching it all night long." " Sure", I replied as we got into the house.
