Chapter 5 - No Home

Layla's POV

After spending time with my friends,I decided it was time to head home since it was already getting late.I got into the cab I had called a few minutes earlier and the driver closed the door behind me. I sat back in my seat, tired after a long day at the park but content to be on my way home.

The cab started moving and I settled in for the ride, enjoying the evening scenery of the city.my gaze out the window as the city streets passed by. As the cab drove on, I couldn't help but feel a pang of anxiety in my stomach, a knot of worry forming in my mind.

I looked around the cab, suddenly uncomfortable. "It's getting late," I said to the driver, "can you please hurry?"

I glanced out the window and caught the fleeting stare of a seedy-looking man on the street. He was dressed in tattered clothing and seemed to be muttering to himself, staring at me as the cab passed by.

I felt a ripple of uneasiness run through me and I turned away, avoiding eye contact as the cab drove on. I looked back out the window, unable to shake the feeling of dread that had settled over me.

I got down from the cab giving the cab driver a warm smile while muttering a quiet thank you. As I got closer to my mansion's gate, I noticed that my bags were outside the gate.

I spotted a

servant walking away from the gate and called out, "Excuse me! Servant, come here!"

The servant turned around, surprised to hear me calling him. "Why are my things

outside the gate?" I asked, "Who threw them there?" I was on the verge of losing my

" Mrs Taylor ordered us to throw them out, I'm so sorry" the servant replied while looking

at her feet.

"Mrs. Taylor...?. Why would she do that?" I said, my voice caught in my throat. "

I was about to lift my phone and call Mrs Taylor when I spotted her car, a sleek,

expensive Bentley, careening around the corner towards me.

You could hear the loud music coming from the car from miles away. The car door

opened revealing Claire's slender long legs first then her body. She looked at me with

disdain.

I looked at her feeling a little bit jealous. Claire was dressed in a stunning red gown that

accentuated her figure perfectly. The deep V-neckline showed off her generous

cleavage and the tiny rhinestone in the sleeve was a subtle yet elegant touch. The

corset emphasized her hourglass shape and the black lace added a touch of

sophistication to her look. Her red lipstick, perfectly applied eyeliner, and voluminous

curls completed the picture. In all, it was a flawless scene to behold that perfectly fit her

personality and style. No wonder Josh chose her over me, she's so perfect and

flawless.something I know that I can never be, with the stress from the hospital and

stress from home, makes me feel so tired and ugly.

"I know you're probably surprised, Layla," Mrs. Taylor said, her tone sounding cold and

unrepentant.

She was dressed in an elegant and timeless gown that perfectly complemented her

mature figure. The soft fabric caressed her form and clung to her curves, emphasizing

her natural beauty. The neckline was modest but still allowed her to show off her

generous assets and the tiny rhinestones in the sleeves added a touch of glamor to an

already stunning look.

The gown's elegant silhouette and timeless design made it easy to see why Mrs. Taylor

chose it. It exudes sophistication and elegance. Even though I dislike her so much,I

can't deny that she's very beautiful. Claire and Mrs Taylor stood looking like they just

walked out of a vogue magazine cover.

"So, I have news for you,my dear Layla," Claire said to me with a devilish glint in her

eyes.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Josh proposed to me," Claire replied with a giggle, "and I accepted." Claire showed me

the engagement ring, a massive diamond set in a platinum band.

"What a beautiful ring?...it should have been me" I muttered in my head.

"Congratulations..." I said softly, trying to sound as nonchalant as possible,my heart

sinking.

"What's wrong, dear? Don't you look happy for me?" Claire laughed, "Oh, I forgot,it

should have been you ."

I ignored her taunts and asked instead, "Why are my bags here outside?"

"Oh, is that why you're upset?" Claire asked in a baby voice, her tone mocking. "

"Well, you can't stay here anymore or you might take many other things from my

precious daughter, just as you almost took her man," Mrs. Taylor said, her tone full of

resentment and suspicion.

"But what am I supposed to do now?" I asked, my voice shaky as I looked around at all

my scattered possessions feeling dejected and tired.

"I don't know and I frankly don't care," Mrs. Taylor replied coldly. "As far as I'm

concerned, you can find somewhere else to live. I refuse to believe my daughter's life

will be overshadowed by a conniving slut like you."

"This is my father's house I don't have to go anywhere if I don't want to" I said defiantly,

my eyes filling with tears that I refused to let fall. I was determined not to let Mrs. Taylor

control my life or take away my home.

"You don't belong here," Mrs. Taylor said coldly, her voice filled with disdain. "My

daughter is the one who deserves to be in this house, not you. I'll never allow you to

destroy the life I've worked so hard to build for her." She said before driving into the

house and locking the gate.

I slid down to the floor, my eyes brimming with tears as I struggled to control the

emotional flood. After a few minutes, I finally lifted myself off the floor and decided to go

to Julie's house. I grabbed my phone and dialed her number while fighting back my

tears, desperate for comfort and support at such a difficult moment.

"Hello, Julie," I greeted her l on the phone, my voice shaking with emotion. After a few

seconds of silence, I continued, "Julie, I'm calling because I really need to talk to

someone" I said. "I'm having a really hard time right now and..." I took a deep breath, "I

just don't know what to do."

Julie, who had a kind and empathic heart, immediately offered to come pick me up.

"Please, come get me, Julie, I'm... I'm not doing well," I pleaded.

I sat down on one of my bags, gazing at the streetlights while I waited for Julie. My mind

was spinning with thoughts and emotions, but I tried my best to be calm and collected.

After a few minutes, I heard a car pull up and looked up to see Julie, pulling up by the

gate.

Julie got out of the car,An old car with a few scratches and dents on the body and a

couple of Bratz girl stickers on the windows. It had seen its fair share of use, but overall,

it wasn't in a bad condition. The car was nothing fancy, but it still performed its function

well. A concerned look on her face, and gave me a big hug, while I bawled my eyes

out."What happened? Are you okay?" she asked, her voice filled with genuine worry.
