Chapter 12 - CHAPTER 12. MERITLESS

Cate was absent-minded all the time. When she went to the kitchen to fetch water, she accidentally broke a glass. The shattered pieces reflected the light, creating a flickering effect. The apartment was located on the thirtieth floor in the city center, and standing in the living room, one could overlook the entire city. However, at this moment, Cate felt lost as she looked at the neon lights below her feet.

What did Jael sweeny mean by asking her to move back to the Manor? Cate couldn't figure it out no matter how much she thought about it. She had planned to ask him when he returned, but he had not come back since he left.

She had been waiting for him, but eventually fell asleep on the sofa. She was awakened by a phone call when it was already dawn.

"Miss Cate, I am sweeny's assistant, Mike Crowley, . Jael arranged for you to move today. Is it convenient for me to come over now?" Mike Crowley said

Cate was still a bit confused from just waking up, and it took her a few seconds to react. "Move?" she asked.

"Yes," Mike Crowley replied. "Jael said that Miss Cate Montreal is moving back to the Manor in Montreal, and asked me to contact you to handle the moving affairs."

Cate was fully awake now. She looked out the window and saw that it was already bright outside. The breeze blew the curtains, causing them to sway gently. It seemed that

Jael Sweeny was not joking or speaking casually yesterday. Cate's heart suddenly tightened, and her emotions surged. She couldn't help but grip her phone tightly.

"Miss Cate?" Mike Crowley didn't hear any response and asked in confusion, "Is it convenient for me to come over now?"

Cate came back to her senses and smiled faintly, "I'm sorry, did you say you're coming over now?"

"Yes, is it convenient?" Mike Crowley repeated.

It was convenient for her to move back, as she had only returned for a few days and had very few belongings. After hanging up the phone, Cate sat down and pondered quietly. The Southeastern manor was specially prepared by Mr. Jael for his daughter-in-law. When she married Jael Sweeny, Mr. Jael gave her the key to the house. The significance of this manor was not simple. Did Jael Sweeny ask her to move back because she was used to living there, or was there another reason? Cate dared not think further, as everything was just her own speculation. Besides, no matter what the reason was, she was not worthy of it. After all, she was just a bad woman who had approached him with a purpose. Cate couldn't help but self-mock in her heart. She sighed and put away her messy thoughts, then started packing her things to move out. In fact, it was just a few pieces of clothing, and it didn't matter whether she took them or not. Mike Crowley soon arrived at the door, but only saw the small suitcase at Cate's feet when he looked around. His expression froze for a moment. "Miss Cate, is this all your luggage?" "Yes!" Cate picked up the suitcase herself. They went downstairs together and found that besides a black Bentley, there was also a business car. When they passed by, they noticed that the back seats of the business car had been removed. They probably thought she would be moving a lot of things. Cate helplessly glanced at the back seat of the black Bentley and got in. The car sped all the way and soon arrived at the Southeastern manor. This was an old Montreal area in the city with an excellent location, where many wealthy businessmen lived. After Cate entered the house, Mike Crowley left, leaving her alone in the Manor. She put her luggage away and looked around the entire manor, finding that it had not changed much compared to five years ago. The garden was planted with her favorite gardenia and jasmine, and these flowers and trees were also well taken care of. It was estimated that someone came regularly to take care of them.

With a long sigh, Cate felt a little uneasy in her heart. She had thought she would live here for the rest of her life, but she didn't know how things could change so unpredictably.

Forget it! Cate forced herself not to think about those things, and took out her phone to check the time. It was almost noon.

After hesitating for a few seconds, Cate dialed Jael sweeny's number.

A few beeps, and the call was connected.

"Hello," Jael Sweeny's voice was cold and composed.

"It's Cate."

There was a pause on the other end, "I know. What's the matter?"

His voice was still cold, without any change. Cate was a little stunned.

She thought he didn't know her number, so he answered the phone so coldly. Now it seems that it's not the case.

With a self-deprecating sigh, Cate spoke, "I've moved into the manor."

"I know. Is there anything else?"Jael Sweeny asked.

"No, nothing else."

As soon as she finished speaking, she heard him coldly say "Okay," and then hung up the phone.

Staring at the screen of her phone, which showed the end of the call, Cate shook her head self-deprecatingly.

What was she expecting?

There was only Cate in the manor, and she felt lonely. She changed her clothes and went out.

She had just returned to the country and had not had time to buy a car. She had to take a taxi when going out. It was convenient to get a taxi anytime in the prime location of the apartment before. However, now that she was in the manor area in the southeastern of the city, it was as difficult as climbing to the sky to get a taxi here.

After walking for a while, Cate felt a little discouraged. She was about to call for a taxi when she suddenly heard a horn from the roadside. A red sports car stopped in front of her.The car window rolled down, revealing a handsome face with sunglasses in front of Cate.

"Miss, are you going out?" Liam Oliver lowered his glasses, glanced up and down at Cate, and finally smirked.

Cate was a bit speechless. She could feel that this man wanted to strike up a conversation, but she really needed to go out now.

"Saola Hospital, thank you!" Cate opened the car door and got in.

Liam Oliver chuckled and started the car.

"Do you live here, beauty? Why haven't I seen you before?" he asked.

Cate looked outside casually, "I just moved in."

Liam Oliver raised his eyebrows. He hadn't heard of anyone moving recently, and considering Cate's appearance, he felt the result was self-evident - another canary raised by someone.

"Here we are!" Liam Oliver stopped the car at the hospital entrance.

Cate opened the car door and turned around, "Thank you!"

"Beauty, leave me your contact information! You rode in my car and don't even thank me?" The man smirked.

"No need for contact information. From Montreal to here, a taxi ride is at most hundred Canadian dollar. I'll give you five hundred!" Cate took out her wallet, twitched out ten CDN bills, and put them on the dashboard before turning and leaving.

Inside the car, Liam Oliver looked at the five

hundred CDN on the dashboard, first stunned, then suddenly smiled, "Interesting!"

Inside Saola Hospital.

Cate took the elevator to the fifth floor and went straight to Professor Hillary's office.

Although she already knew that Professor Hillary wouldn't be back until next week, according to the text message sent by Ena yesterday, Greg's condition had worsened again, and she couldn't wait any longer.
