Three hundred fifteen years ago, a battlefield.
The streets barely had any foot traffic. The surrounding houses are abandoned and desolate. A man and a girl that was about ten years old walked down the broken road. They were looking for any survivors.
"Master, why the hell did you bring me here?" One wouldn't expect such a sentence to be spoken from the lips of a petite girl her age. The man swatted her on the back of her head. "Vera, we were ordered to come here. We are soldiers."
The little girl glared at her master. "You bastard!" The girl attacked the man with the spear that was on her back. The man paid her no attention and swatted her into the wall. "Stop kidding around and see if anyone is alive in this rubble." The little girl stood up and stabbed the spear into the ground.
"You piece of shit! I am not a soldier. I am a princess!" The man stopped and calmly spoke to her. "You were a princess. Your kingdom, citizens, and family are all dead. You are the only surviving member of that kingdom."
The girl's eyes filled with tears as she looked at the old man before her. "You are worst than shit." She took off running, leaving her spear behind. The man watched her run off and continued to look for people to save.
The girl ran for a reasonable distance before finding a house that wasn't blown to pieces. She entered the house and sat at the door. She let her tears fall as she quietly sobbed. She didn't notice the symbols and markings on the walls that marked the house as enemy territory.
"PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME DO THIS." She became alert and climbed the stairs. She found a window and looked out of it. The window faced the backyard. The girl covered her mouth to prevent her from screaming.
Enemies surrounded a young boy no younger than five. There were dead bodies that had been tortured all over the ground. The men laughed at the boy who held a knife in his hands. A man, a woman, and another little boy were tied up on their knees.
The man smiled at the boy. "It's okay, son. I can take it. I am big and strong, aren't I? A knife that size won't hurt me." The man tried his best to reassure the boy. The man that was the leader hit him with the butt of his gun.
"See! Your daddy said it was okay to stab him. My strike didn't even hurt him just now." The boy swallowed and stabbed at his dad's shoulder. The man pulled his dad right before the boy reached him.
Silence echoed in the yard before the man and his men laughed. "HAHAHA! You dumb little bastard." The boy looked at his dad's lifeless body. He looked between the knife and his hands. The blade was embedded inside of the man's chest.
"Simon! Run away right now! Run to the border." The woman screamed at her son, who was still in a daze. One of the soldiers grabbed her head. He pulled it back and sliced her throat open. The woman's blood gushed out of her neck like a geyser.
The blood rained on the young boy named Simon. Another soldier moved towards the last captive, Simon's twin brother. Simon moved in front of the soldier to stop him. He received a kick to the face for his efforts.
"Wait! Please wait! I will do anything! Don't hurt my brother!" The leader stopped the soldier and grinned. He went and took the knife out of the man and gave it back to Simon. "If you want you and your brother to live, then cut yourself a hundred times, then pull out your fingernails, and after that, cut off three fingers. If you can do that, then I will let you go."
The little girl widened her eyes as she saw the boy begin to cut himself. 'That bastard has to be close by.' She made her way back downstairs and away from the house. She started running to where she last saw him.
"Master! Master! Help! I found some people who are in trouble!" She picked up her spear and ran around, screaming the same thing over and over again. She finally found him picking up a wall off the ground. She told him what was going on.
They arrived just in time to stop the boy from cutting his fingers. Caden made quick work of the enemy soldiers that were present. Simon pushed Vera away and ran to his brother. "Bartarian!" Simon shook his brother to get his attention.
Caden placed his hand on his shoulder. "I am sorry, son. His soul has already departed from this plane of existence. He was an empty husk being controlled by someone else." Simon slapped his hand away.
"You fucking piece of shit! I hate you! You should face a cliff and jump off, you bastard!" Caden held the boy close to his chest and let him shout his heart out. "You follow me from now on as my fourth disciple."
Planet Strara Present Day.
Vera and Simon were sitting close to each other silently. Caden had watched the two grow up and was practically their grandfather more than their master. Simon's mind was elsewhere until he felt a hand fall on his.
He blinked and put out his cigarette. He relaxed back into his chair. Vera removed her hand and went back to looking through her phone. They were closer to each other compared to the others. Markus was the oldest, followed by Horton. Then Vera and Simon. Tyre and Jekel. The last and youngest was Pyea.
Training Room.
Vincent and the others were sitting in a circle, talking. "Okay, everyone. It's time we got some shut-eye. We all understand the plan and who our partners are. The only thing left to do is make it to the end of the week."
They nodded in agreement. "We have officially registered as a team, with me being the leader and Talia as co-leader. The question left is what name we will call ourselves." Vincent smiled big.
"I know what about the eight kings?" Bruno said excitedly. Talia scoffed. "No. There are three girls here." Bruno put his hand down. "How does the name spider web sound? There are eight of us." Takashi offered. Isabell squirmed. "Ew, gross, absolutely not."
They all argued and came up with names. No one could agree on a name until Garfield, who had been quiet, raised his hand. Vincent saw his hand and made them shut up. "Garfield, you don't need to raise your hand to speak. I told you everyone is equal." Garfield nodded his head and said the name he came up with.
"I was thinking about the word reven. It means to take, steal, ravage, and bring ruin." Everyone was silent when they heard him. Takashi laughed and patted him on his back. "Haha, who would have thought you would be the one to suggest that name? I love it!"
The others seemed to like it as well. Vincent got excited and let his aura leak out. He laughed for a while before recomposing himself. His eyes were filled with excitement and a smidge of madness. "That name is perfect! The world, no the universe, will come to respect and fear this name."
His mood made everyone excited as well. Even Talia was smiling at the idea. Vincent wasn't talking to anyone in particular when he said, "This is the day the word reven stopped being a mere word to describe something awful. This is the day the Revens was created." They all cheered and celebrated. Garfield was lifted into the sky by the boys. He had the biggest grin on his face.
Revens. The name would echo the halls and walls. It would even leave the lips of the living and the dead. It would become something the kids wouldn't see coming. The future generations would study and try to learn from them. Only to realize too late that the phrase 'Don't meet your heroes.' It was far too real. There was no such thing as heroes, at least not anymore.
