Since it came time for Tobias to take on his role as king, Tabitha had been hearing this threat often that the kingdom wouldn't have a future king because Tobias was likely to run away and leave them without a clue as to who would be the next king.
They had allowed him to go off to fight in the war so he could do what he wanted for a short time and then return to do his duty. Tobias returned still not wanting to be inside the palace and repeating the same threat.
Tabitha had made sure Tobias's time in the palace when he was growing up was as good as she could make it so it would feel like a normal home. She couldn't place when he had started to hate the palace so much.
