Chereads / Mate From a Different Time / Chapter 8 - Training Grounds

Chapter 8 - Training Grounds

**Emily**

I must admit, yesterday was the longest day I have ever had. Today is my second day in this century, but I feel like I've already spent months. Right now, I'm on my way to Nicholas' office, I don't know why he wants to see me, but I hope it's nothing to do with the mate bond. Even though he can't know I'm his mate, I can see he has already started being attracted to me.

"Come in Emily." Nicholas said before I could even knock. I got in, he was seated behind his desk that was scuttered with papers. I looked at him, he looked tired, he had bags under his eyes, his hair was messy, it looked like he kept running his fingers through it. But even when he looked like this, he still looked breath taking. If I'm being honest, he even looked sexier.

I cleared my throat to get those thoughts out of my head. "Not that I should care but, did you get any sleep last night?" I asked, he looked at me amused. "Really? You don't even know why you are here and the first thing you say to me is to ask if I had any sleep." he said. "Okay Alpha, so why I'm I here?" I asked. "You know, there is no pack that trains women. So, I was wondering who taught you." He said as he arranged his papers.

"My wolf." I blurted without even thinking. "Speaking of your wolf, why can't I feel her." Okay this is definitely an interrogation, so this means he has started to suspect me of being a spy for the rogues. Only rogues' women are trained, why didn't I think of that. "She is picky with who she wants to sense her, so if you can't sense her that means she doesn't like you." I don't even know what I'm saying right now.

His expression was between hurt and anger, but he quickly hid it. "Anyway, that isn't what I called you here for." I looked at him confused, "It's not?" I asked and he shook his head. "You managed to kill six rogues yesterday and also managed to catch a traitor yesterday with not much effort, how did you do it?" "Well for starters, I'm good at observing. With that said, the rogues were good fighters, but they all had one flow. They all kept leaving an opening for me so killing them was easy.

For the traitor, like I said, I'm good at observing. I let the rogue go free for two reasons, one, was to send a message and two, was to see which part of the pack had loose ends. Then I noticed he didn't bother to check if there was anyone watching, it's like he knew there will be no one watching. That was when I knew that they had help from inside." I explained and he looked impressed.

"But how did you know it was Luca?" he asked, curiosity leaking from his voice. Well that's a relief, now I know he's just curious and not suspecting. "At first I wasn't sure if it was him. What made him my suspect was, everyone seemed to have no problem with showing a little bit of an emotion on there face but him. He was trying so hard to keep his face straight, it didn't take a genius to put two and two together." I said as I leaned back on my seat and crossed my legs. "When you said you heard his heart skip a beat...." I cut him off, "I lied, when i said I heard his heart skip a beat, that was when I wanted to hear if his heart will skip a beat.

**Nicholas**

I sat there in my office listening to Emily, how can a woman, in fact a girl be this smart in pack issues. What baffles me the most is that she was doing that without even looking suspicious.

Before I knew it, I heard myself say, "Come train with me today, I'm sure Elizabeth won't mind it I steal you for the day." I saw her grin like a kid who just got exactly what she wanted for her birthday. "I would love to."

'What are you doing?' Mars asked just after I asked Emily to join us. 'I don't know Mars, this girl's got me doing shit without thinking.' I responded honestly. not like I can lie to my wolf. I heard him chuckle. 'What's funny?' I asked. 'Nothing, I just remembered that just yesterday you accused me of going out with her wolf as if that's even possible yet here you are, asking her to train with us.' He laughed. 'Why would you even invite a woman to come train with us?' Mars asked. 'I don't know, but I feel she knows even better than my best fighter.' I told him. 'This will be interesting.' Mars said and went back to being silent.

"So do you have any thing that I can wear for training?" Emily asked. Shit, I forgot that we will need training clothes. Usually everyone just wears pants, because we shift so we find shirts unnecessary but she's a female, she can't move around shirtless. "There are some pants you can fit and I can give you one of my shirts." I offered. She looked at me like she was measuring my size, probably thinking wearing my shirt that will be over size for fighting is not a good idea. "Your shirt, sure. Just give me two shirts and a pair of scissors." She said.

I gave her the pants and two shirts.

She cut the shirt, removing the sleeves and making it short enough for her size. I don't know where the other shirt is, but by how tight her chest looks I think I know exactly what it was used for. The pants fitted her perfectly, not too tight, not too loose.

Now I'm wondering how she still manages to take my breath away dressed like this. 'This girl can wear a sack and still look stunning.' Mars said as he also checked her out. And I couldn't agree more. "Alpha, you are staring to hard. Do you want to rip a hole through my clothes with that gaze." She said with a chuckle, and goddess it sounded magical. "Let's go." I told her and we went to the training ground.

I love how active the training ground is when they see me, it's like they are all trying to impress me. I looked at Emily to see if her expression showed what she thought of my fighters. She was looking at one of my best fighter/trainers, Maximus, with an impressed expression, "Impressed?" I asked with a proud smile playing on my lips, I mean he is one of my men. If I'm being honest, I don't know why I have this urge to impress her.

"Not as you would think it but yes, I am impressed." She said. Her eyes still glued on Maximus. "Not as I would think, what do you mean by that?" I asked, not really understanding what she meant by what she said. Then she smiled, okay noted, this girl smiles a lot. "I'm impressed by how he can have so much pride when his fighting skills have so many flows. I mean, so far I have already thought of five ways to kill him with only one hit." She said, practically laughing.

I looked at Maximus to try and see what she was talking about but saw nothing. "Really? Would you show me how to correct this flow?" I asked, as we walked towards Maximus.

As soon as he saw us approaching, Maximus gave a slight bow. "Alpha." He acknowledged. Then his eyes roamed to Emily with curiosity, probably wondering why she was dressed the way she was.

"Your fighting skills are impressive, but I can think of a way to better them." Emily said without even greeting him or introducing herself. "I'm sorry who are you." Maximus asked, clearly offended by what she said. "The name's Emily darling what's yours?" she said with the worst curtesy I have ever witnessed. she definitely isn't into the girly stuff.

Maximus looked taken aback by what she said, it isn't every day you meet a girl with the audacity to call you darling when you just met. "Maximus." He said, then he cleared his throat. "Did you just say that my fighting is flowed, Miss Emily?" he asked the question I knew he would. "I said no such thing. I said you fighting skills are impressive, but I can think of a way to better them." She repeated what she told him.

He knotted his brows, "And that's different, how?" I could feel his offense turn to anger. "It's different in many ways." Emily said. Maximus took a step closer to her, probably trying to intimidate Emily but failing miserably. When he noticed that he had no effect on her, looked even more pissed.

Then he gave an evil smirk, "You look like you are here to fight, would you mind showing me the ways you said I can better myself?" He asked. I heard a few gasps and that's when I noticed that we had an audience, people just can't mind their business, can they?

"isn't that the girl who got punished yesterday for disrespecting the elders?" someone in the crowd whispered to her friend. "Yeah, I heard she just budged in the meeting and started giving orders." The friend replied. Funny how stories change, Emily never budged in the meeting. "I can't believe she's challenging sir Maximus, who is she?" asked another. "I think she has a death wish" and another. "She looks young, I think she just got her wolf now she thinks she's now stronger than a man." The whispering went on and on.

"Is that a challenge? If so then challenge accepted." Emily said, causing more gasps.
