Chereads / Mate From a Different Time / Chapter 5 - The Punishment

Chapter 5 - The Punishment

**Nicholas' POV**

I Must say this girl is something else, who would want a punishment.

Right now, we are in the punishment hall, elder Lockwood is lacing the whip with extra silver. 'That will kill her. We need to do something.' Mars said in panic. 'There's nothing we can do Mars, she accepted the punishment the alpha should not intervene. And wait why do you care.' I asked him. It's not like my wolf to care for someone he just met, a woman at that. 'I don't know.' He said then shut me off.

Rude.

"Emily, have you seen how much silver he's applying on that whip? That much silver plus fifty strokes will kill you. Please don't do this, I'm not worth it." I heard my sister plead. "Elizabeth, I'll heal. Don't worry about me." she said with a smile.

How can she smile in such a situation? "Okay fine, what can I do to help?" Elizabeth asked defeated. "Just bring me a robe, with that much silver my back will be smeared in blood." Emily said unbothered.

But why is she even doing this, for the fact that I don't know her means she's new. Meaning she doesn't know my sister well enough to sacrifice herself for her. 'I think she's trying to prove something.' Mars said. "Prove what__ " my thoughts were cut short when I heard her say, "Hurry up elder we all have things to do." Elder Lockwood smiled. And something about that smile said, 'let's see how bold you'll be after I'm done with you.'

Before I could even think, I found myself saying, "Remember elder, killing a servant is punishable by death." everyone looked taken aback by what I said, even I was shocked I said that. Elder Madox chuckled, "You would kill an elder over a lowly servant?" He asked in amusement. "What alpha would I be if I can't make sure the laws that have governed this pack for years are followed?" I asked back. Then he smiled, "Well spoken alpha. Elder Lockwood, please proseed, I must agree with the lady when she said we all have things to do."

"You'll count." Elder Lockwood said as he tied Emily's hands to a pole. "Sure, thing Elder." Emily said boldly and for some reason that angered Elder Lockwood.

Then he turned to the pack members, yep pack members. He called the entire pack to witness what happens to people that disrespect the Elders. "This woman here is an example to all of you that might want to disrespect the elders in future. She is to receive fifty strokes of a silver laced weep and that is if she'll last that long." He said loud enough for all to hear.

Without warning he swung his whip, and it landed hard on Emily's back, the whole place went silent, but she didn't even flinch. "One." She said in a loud voice.

"Fifty." Emily said as she received her last slash. Her voice still as strong as ever. She quickly covered her blood smeared back with the robe she asked Elizabeth to bring, but not fast enough for me not to notice that her back had already started healing.

Wait what?

Not even an alpha heals that quickly when it comes to silver. She rubbed her wrists that had been tied. "I hope the lesson is taught Elder." She said in a mocking voice. Everyone looked at her shocked, the women looked at her in awe.

**Emily's POV**

I must admit, the whip stung like a bitch, but I was raised to not show weakness as an alpha. Dad's torture sessions have really paid off today.

As a part of my alpha training, dad would torture me in the worst ways possible. He said that an alpha should have a high tolerance for torture because the enemy will do the worst things possible just to have him submit.

So, this is nothing compared to what dad made me go through. Shit became even worse when he discovered that silver or wolfs bane alone wouldn't do much damage unless combined, now that was a real motherfucker.

I quickly wore a robe because my wounds had already started healing, the last thing I need is for people to realize that I actually heal quicker than an alpha. I scan everyone's face to see if anyone has noticed, to my relief no one seemed to have noticed. Oh no, spoke too soon. I think Nicholas has, great, of all people it had to be the alpha.

I went back to the room Josette, and I share and found she had already drawn a bath for me and arranged what I would wear, the pack house actually had a tub unlike the servants' cabin that had a mini pool. "If we were not wearing the same uniform, I'd think I'm your mistress and you're my personal maid." I joked. She smiled, "How can you still have it in you to joke when you just received a beating that would have killed you." She said, then tried to take my robe off but I stopped her. "Whatever you see, don't freak out." I said sternly.

She looked at me shocked, "I can handle a little blood." She said. "No, it's not...." before I could finish, she had already removed it.

The moment she saw my back she froze, "How are there only mare scratches on your back." She practically screamed. "Shh, someone might hear you. I said don't freak out." I whispered. "That much silver should have had you wounded for at least three days. How are you already healed?" She asked as she examined my back in disbelief.

I wanted to tell her everything, but I cannot just pour my secrets on someone I just met. "I don't know but this stays between us, okay? At least until I have my stolen memories." I said and she nodded.

I went to take a bath.

The water was surprisingly warm, and it smelled of vanilla, I don't even know how they warm water here, with no technology. 'First day in this century and you already offended the elders.' Mia laughed and she came back to her usual spot. 'I missed you.' I said. I really did, I've never gone this long without having to feel her. The closest I've gone to this was when she blocked me out the whole morning because I lost my virginity to someone who wasn't my mate but then she had to understand that we were living in the twenty first century.

Speaking of mate, 'Why did you hide from our mate?' I asked. From the stories I've heard about mates, wolves are more affected by the bond than the human. 'You think I don't want to be with our mate. Do you know how hard it was for me not to jump on him and claim him as mine?' she said sadly. 'It's why I'm asking. You shut yourself as soon as you found out he's, our mate.' I said.

Then she laughed. 'What's funny?' I asked. 'My dear Emily, our mate is from a different timeline. What do you think will happen if we mate with him and mark each other just to wake up back in the twenty first century? It will be a different type of torture. Imagine how we would feel when we actually read about how he died in a history book.' She said and that's when I now thought about how fucked up our situation is.

'What do you think we did to offend the Moon goddess and Fate?' I asked her. 'Maybe the fact that you didn't want a mate to begin with.' She said accusingly. 'Who said I didn't want a mate? I just didn't want a mate to take my position as alpha.' I defended myself. 'Whatever, anyway I ___" She quickly locked herself in my subconscious before she could say whatever it was that she wanted to say.

Before I could ask why she did that, Josette walked in with an expression between confusion and curiosity. "The Alpha, he's here to see you." She said.
