KARA'S POV
After returning to my room from the playroom I began to wonder if Kara's husbands would meet up tonight for their coup planning. Since all three of them were here now.
I didn't know how I was going to tell them but I didn't have any time. My wound was healing, I had to get through to them before I was to return to sleeping with them. My best shot was to talk to all three of them when they were together.
In the book, it said they would meet in secret in an underground room of the castle late in the night to discuss their plans.
So I waited until evening came. It was after dinner that I began to think of Aldric who had probably already been released by now. My eyes narrowed as I remembered my awkward encounter with him in the dungeons. How would he feel when I encountered him again?
When it was late in the night and most in the castle were fast asleep I put on a cloak and headed out of my room to look for the underground rooms hoping they were having a meeting. I was also happy not to have to have to sleep because it's not like my dreams had been exactly pleasant in the last couple of days.
In the book, it said they would meet late in the night when all were asleep and for a brief period so that they wouldn't raise suspicions.
It also said that they had a guard, who was in on it with them, that would look out for them near the underground rooms. He would alert them if someone was coming or if anything went wrong. So if there was a guard suspiciously loitering near the rooms then the three Dukes were probably down there.
If only they knew, however, that despite all their efforts to be as careful as possible there was no point to it...
I soon found the underground rooms which I had asked Lucy to show me earlier when we went to the playroom. The underground rooms were used as storage rooms. However, there was no guard near the underground entrance, and when I went down the stairs and checked the rooms they were all empty. Perhaps they weren't meeting tonight? I thought to myself. Or was it that I was looking in the wrong area? Could there possibly be a secret room somewhere on the underground level that I wasn't aware of? Or perhaps I came at the wrong time? I didn't know but I continued waiting.
I waited for what felt like hours hoping they would come later but no one came. After a while, I eventually gave up and slowly returned to my room.
Though I was tired I still wasn't ready to sleep yet by the time I lay down on my bed. Though worried that the nightmares would return I closed my eyes.
*******
The following day I hoped the whole day that they would meet that night. I spent my time 'resting' but I was reading a book I'd found in Kara's room when I searched it the other day that was about the kingdom's history. I thought it would be good to learn more about the kingdom since I was stuck here, that, and I didn't have anything else to do as I waited.
Later that night I put on my cloak and once again made my way back to the underground rooms.
But again there was no guard and all the rooms were empty. I decided to wait for a while but still no one came. Was it that they already had the meeting and left or was it they weren't coming at all? The problem is I didn't know what time they met exactly. Disappointment filled me once again as the possibility that they weren't coming saddened me.
How was I going to get to talk to them now? At first, I thought of heading back to my room but I still had a little sliver of hope so I decided to continue to wait like I had the day before. I sat down on the concrete floor and told myself to be patient.
After what felt like an hour, I then heard muffled voices and the sound of multiple footsteps coming down the stairs. I peeked from the corner of the wall and saw three figures. They were Kara's husbands...my heart fluttered in excitement and relief at the sight of them. My chance had finally come.
I watched as the three of them went inside one of the many rooms and closed the door behind them.
After a moment I slowly made my way to the door of the room. Leaning against it, I brought my ear close so I could hear what they were saying. At first, I only heard scuffling around the room before it soon stopped. it was they had finally finished settling down they began to talk.
"So, we're still trying to figure out the best time and place to carry out our plan," Griffith started off by saying. "There's something I recently learned which I thought you would all find interesting. I'm sure you're all aware that in three months, Viktor is planning to head to the Kingdom of Akron to finalize the takeover of the kingdom in the capital. But he also plans to make a personal visit to the Holy temple of Akron." I heard Griffith say.
"Why?" I heard someone ask. "Is he planning to convert or something?" The voice was neither Griffiths' nor Aldrics' so I suppose it was Isaacs.
"I'm not sure why, but he plans to set off separately from the army and visit it briefly with a few attendants before coming to the kingdom. ,eaning for a brief period he won't have any protection around him."
Akron was a nearby kingdom that Viktor had set his eyes on and invaded within the last 2 years. Viktor had only now successfully defeated Akron's army and was now planning to finalize the takeover of the territory.
