The man in front of me seemed to age a decade when he heard my words.
All his hope seemed to have vanished.
"At that moment all I thought about was protecting the children, I wanted to prevent them from being targets and so they could live a life as ordinary as possible before being thrown into a totally unknown world full of dangers." – commented the old man in a weak voice.
At that moment I felt it necessary to deliver some more truths to him.
"The fault of those who have power is to protect too much of those who have not yet grown up. You deny the possibility of them reaching your level. Geniuses like you may be rare, but by protecting them too much you denied the possibility of having people who could prepare themselves for the danger they would face in the future. Now we have a society that spent nearly two decades thinking Voldemort was dead. " – I said, placing the blame on the man in front of me.
I come from a martial society, life and death have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have been through too many situations in my reincarnations to recognize the problems of societies, but this world surprised me too much with its civil mentality.
"How do you expect them to survive when they are nothing more than sitting ducks awaiting slaughter?" – I asked, completing my speech.
The old man sighed in front of me.
"The last century has had two Dark Lords, I have witnessed both. And they both had me as their biggest obstacle to their conquest of the world." – he commented in a derogatory tone.
His fallen gaze lifted at that moment, focusing directly on me.
"Being taught by a young person, life is full of surprises." – he said, regaining a little humor.
I laughed at that moment at the irony of that phrase. He was nothing more than a child in my eyes, a baby who didn't know anything about the world.
"I believe I need to trust your words about your colleagues. With your capabilities, discovering how far our society has fallen is just a matter of wanting." – He said, trying to convince himself of his mistakes.
I shook my head.
"You got me wrong Headmaster. I may not be the most empathetic person in the world, but if I dirty my head with the sordid memories of the Minieaters I wouldn't be able to stop myself and I would turn them all into empty shells. I'm just telling you that I see how they act, not only the children, but also the parents. Malfoy has already spent tens of thousands of Galleons to acquire supplies, the retaliation by hurting Lady Bulstrode's image was another point that demonstrates how they act. That wasn't a spur-of-the-moment move, he was thrown out on the first day of the year and the Daily Prophet only came out on the 5th. He didn't do it alone, they are organizing, they are getting stronger, they are preparing." – I said, explaining the points he could get wrong.
Dumbledore sharpened his eyes watching me.
"No one is prepared for what is to come, your Order does not seem to be prepared. You spent twenty years without recruiting new members and if I'm not wrong, you knew that the war wasn't over, it just went into hiatus." – I declared firmly.
The old man started laughing in front of me, but it wasn't a laugh of fun, he was making fun of himself for the decisions he made in life.
"I called you here for a talk Mr Mao, but it feels like I'm getting a life lesson." – he commented.
He took a deep breath.
"The hope of a future where he would not return, my hopes were too high. Just before I began my education here in this very castle, Hogwarts was recognized as the best wizarding school in the world. The Ministry of Magic at that time feared that the school had too much influence over the magical population of Great Britain, from then on Hogwarts suffered a campaign that stripped almost all of the advanced classes that trained quality professionals. We lost classes for Healers, Alchemists, Enchantment, Duels and more. Education today is more basic than in my time and there is little I can do, Hogwarts is run by a panel of twelve Governors who often think like the Ministry. I cannot solve the teaching problems, but it is entirely my fault that those who follow me are not prepared, in that you are right." – explained the Headmaster with regret.
He paused in his speech, reorganizing his mind.
"Politics is one of the great evils of humanity. Impossible to organize ourselves without, but also one of the great limiters of human growth." – I declared while he was thinking.
"There was a time when I was angry with the world, I thought the solution to everything would be to make the Wizarding World the dominant one in this world. But I grew away from those thoughts. Our society is hidden from the world for a reason, we are not warriors, we are civilians who happen to have magical powers. Our children need peace to grow, otherwise we risk becoming a bitter society that controls the world through fear. This has never been the collective thought, some individuals believe in the superiority of magic over the Muggle world and try with all their might to demonstrate this openly. That was the case with Voldemort and that was the case with Grindelwald. The two Dark Lords of the last century. They used people's weaknesses to make them think they were strong and filled them with their own idealism. One about power and the other about birthright. We are all human, magic can make us different, but our lives are not worth more than others. We cannot discriminately fight against the population of the world to prove something that in the end will bring nothing but misery and tragedy to the world." – he completed
I analyzed him well.
He was someone who had a conflicted life, especially emotionally. He seemed to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders and blame himself for things beyond his control.
"People's decisions are not something in your control, all you can do is use your experience to prepare those around you to face the world." – I said in a solemn tone.
I took a deep breath, preparing myself for a monologue.
"If I know well the kind of person you are, I think that you Sir is reaching your limit and when you finds someone to carry the baton, you will gladly give room for that person to be the center of attention and possibly, you Sir, will even left aside the intention to continue living. But this is just a gross error on your part. There is a lot you have to teach people and prepare them, as there will always be someone who thinks they know what is right and will do anything to prove their point. I advise you to train people so that they can survive these events and not simply use your presence to corner these thoughts on society. I called you an idiot, innocent and even other insults during our conversation, but all of this was to try to open your eyes to the fact that your work was not finished. If you Sir continues to act the way you are, people who have faith in the figure that you Sir represents will be caught off guard in the future, they will be thrown into battles that they are not prepared to fight, or even not have a stomach firm enough to live through the years to come. You need to train your allies, you need to warn them, you need to make this faith not just an empty hope. For at this moment I see the peak of the magical world being just an illusory figure that is capable of nothing but pretty words. A magical civil society is a utopia rarely achieved, we are hidden from the rest of the world. We don't have the influence we should, we don't have the recognition we should, we don't have the protections we should. We are nothing more than a false idea. Without strength it is impossible to maintain peace in this world, in your youth you thought that Wizards and Witches should reign over the Muggles. You weren't completely wrong, the right thinking is that Wizards and Witches should be public knowledge and they have the protection of powerful entities that guarantee their autonomy. We cannot threaten the existence of ordinary people, but we also should stop blades, projectiles and bombs from threatening our existence. Without a military force to guarantee our security, we cannot dream of being civilians." – I spoke in front of him.
It would be difficult to convince a man who has only experienced extremes.
"Your way of thinking is not wrong, but our population is so small compared to the Muggles that it is almost impossible to apply. Revealing to the world that magic exists would only invite unnecessary danger. We are in the crosshairs of unscrupulous people, politicians would want to use our powers to their advantage. Religious groups would want our heads and public opinion would be almost completely against our existence. I may be one of the most powerful Wizards in the world right now, but I don't have the ability to defend our people from these persecutions." – he replied after thinking for a few moments.
"And why not create an organization that can prepare if the magical world is exposed in the future?" – I asked a little exasperated.
"That's what the Ministries of Magic and the International Council of Wizards exist for. They are responsible for maintaining order and the Statute of Secrecy." – he replied.
I shook my head because he didn't understand.
"These institutions may have started out thinking about organizing and defending the magical world, but they are political institutions. We need an institution that will be completely focused on defending magical people and fight against Dark Lords that may arise, but at the same time completely abstains from politics. This can be resolved through vows, or magical contracts." – I explained to him.
The Headmaster thought for a moment.
"This type of force would never be accepted, everyone would be afraid that they would become an unregulated force that would take power at some point. Even with vows or contracts, people's hearts wouldn't accept it." – he said without much hope.
I took a deep breath.
"This force does not need to be public." – I suggested.
He denied it once again.
"Not all magical governments are at peace with Muggle governments. MACUSA for example has been in hostilities with the government of the United States of America for decades because they want to use magical people as weapons in their wars." – he declared.
Exactly this was the fact that a non-political force was needed to defend the magical world.
"Do you think they didn't capture magical people to try and study how magic works?" – I asked with a hint of sarcasm that I couldn't resist.
The Headmaster in front of me wrinkled his forehead thinking about my words.
"We cannot be the first to attack, even if they did it, we have no way of proving it. That would be breaking the Statute of Secrecy." – he said, trying to convince me and himself at the same time.
This conversation would go nowhere.
Looking over his desk I picked up an empty parchment and a quill and wrote down the list of ingredients for my three Dans.
He watched me, curious and confused as to the purpose of my actions.
"This won't guarantee that your allies will stay alive in what's to come, but it will increase their chances." – I declared, handing the parchment to the old man.
He looked at the ingredients list carefully.
"You must know of my connection with Jonathan. These are the three Dans I gave to the girls. They're not much, but they make a big difference. With the quantities I put there, I am capable of making three Dans of each. If you want your allies to have a better chance, I will be available to help." – I said, getting up from the chair.
"Are these the Dans that caused Miss Bulstrode to transform?" – he asked, extremely curious.
"They're not everything she needed to do, but they're an integral part of Milli's transformation. Like I said, I have secrets that only my girls know." – I replied.
I was almost at the door when I stopped.
"If I were you Sir, I would break this wand in half so that no one else would suffer the same fate. The way I see things I will need to accelerate and expand my plans, I hope the Lord will not be an obstacle. You may be more powerful than me at the moment, but I may very well become a public figure that you won't be able to attack directly. After all, you say you don't care about politics, but you are still controlled by it." – I declared before opening the door and leaving the office.
I could feel the Headmaster's magical power make the office shake when I closed the door.
He thought he was immune to the world, when in fact he simply wasn't and just left the world agonizing in meager survival.
