One of the biggest events of the Hogwarts year was about to happen. I'm not exactly sure why this is, but Hallowe'en is a special date in the Wizarding World. Even during History of Magic classes they don't tell us anything about the origin of the day.
Perhaps it is linked to some ancient celebration that was later appropriated by the Muggles, in some languages the date is literally called Day of the Witches.
Although we eat at the Great Hall every day, on special dates like Hallowe'en the decoration of the place is completely different and the food is specially made in the theme of the day and October 31st was one of the most special at Hogwarts.
When the day arrived I, like everyone else, went to the celebration.
The Slytherin table was crowded when I arrived, I like arriving late just to force some idiots to move when I sit at the table. I had already gotten used to the treatment, before it was because they considered me a failure, now I was completely the enemy of the house for not bowing down to Malfoy and his bunch of idiotic purebloods.
The conversation at the table interested me little, the topics always revolved around their families and how influential they were, it was as if the people around me were not individuals, as if their minds were controlled by the notion that their families are them. .
For them it was as if I didn't exist for them at the same time.
Malfoy looked pleased with himself as always. He was surrounded by Crabbe and Goyle respectively on his right and left, it was truly as if they were his bodyguards.
Malfoy was bragging about how he had gotten his father to buy something.
Pansy was trying to get his attention and being ignored as usual.
Daphne was sitting next to her sister ignoring everyone other than Astoria, she was super protective of the girl. Who wouldn't be, knowing that she had escaped the curse that runs in the family only for her younger sister to be afflicted.
Tracey Daves was talking to Millicent who in turn had not yet let go of Gemma for fear that the boys would approach her.
Bridget continued to sit among her roommates, but she seemed quiet at today's festivities.
The Gryffindor table was a party in itself. The twins ran the whole thing with great enthusiasm.
Ronald in turn was sitting next to Ginny with a frown. He seems to have spent all his arguments with her.
Ginny, in turn, when she saw that I was looking at her, smiled.
The Hufflepuff table seemed super integrated, the party might not have been the loudest there, but everyone was definitely having fun.
The Ravenclaw table was a strange sight, they always wanted to appear superior to others haughtily.
Luna was going through a similar situation to me with her housemates, but it was because they thought she wasn't worth as much as them.
Granger, in turn, seemed to be viewed with devotion and envy by her yearmates, the younger ones and even some seniors.
After stuffing my stomach with as wide a variety of food as I could find on the table, I decided it was time to go back to my room.
When I arrived in the common room I felt the Karmic Laws telling me that I should not retreat to the room.
Sitting in one of the armchairs in the common room, I saw my fellow Slytherins arriving after the end of the banquet. They settled down in the common room and continued their meaningless conversations where they tried to demonstrate that their families were better than the others.
After a few minutes Rigsby arrived hurriedly and out of breath.
"Sirius Black tried to break into the Gryffindor common room, it seems he's after Longbottom." – he shouted for the entire common room to hear.
"Sirius Black behind Longbottom?" – asked Malfoy, almost smiling.
Rigsby shook his head violently in confirmation.
"It has something to do with a prophecy, it seems that Sirius is after Longbottom to ensure that You-Know-Who can return without anyone being able to stop him." – said the Mayor.
What followed after that was one of the greatest shows of supremacy Hogwarts must have seen in its life.
They began to joke about the fact that Neville Longbottom was the target of a mass murderer.
But in this moment I could observe exactly who was truly in favor of the ideals of pureblood supremacy.
Malfoy didn't need to be mentioned when talking about supremacists and pro-deatheaters. With a father like his, it would be impressive if he hadn't participated in any of the 'meetings' that his little club promoted. The last major appearance of Deatheaters was during the Quidditch World Cup, something I know he often brags about having witnessed, some think he is referring to the final game, but from the way he talks I'm sure which was the event after the game.
Crabbe and Goyle were close behind. Both gorillas seemed to want to impress the little prince with new ways of mocking, but they were too stupid to think of anything even close to funny or that made sense.
Flint was grinning from ear to ear at the idea.
Pansy showed a little hesitation, but joined the little prince's celebration.
But other people like Rigsby himself didn't seem to know what exactly to do, he was clearly an asshole and found Gryffindor's situation funny, he was finding the situation too extreme to be celebrated.
Some people seemed to stay in the common room just out of a sense of obligation, but they had doubts in their eyes as to whether they really wanted to participate in what was happening.
Theodore was completely uncomfortable, but he was forcing himself to remain.
I have to admit it's a bit asshole of me to never help him, but that was just me being petty as he's never helped me before.
We had each other's support during childhood to withstand the beatings we received, but when he entered Hogwarts it was as if his soul left his body, when he returned home after the first year he simply obeyed his father and when I joined here the following year and he did absolutely nothing to defend me against the bullying I received from Malfoy and his accomplices.
He was even off Gemma's list of potential heirs, she probably knew that even though they are one of the Sacred 28 Families they are completely broke when it comes to money.
Noticing everyone's behavior in the common room, I saw that it was time for me to retreat to my room.
The Karmic Laws were trying to tell me one of three things.
I needed to know who the worst elements within Slytherin were.
I needed to know that Neville Longbottom is important.
I needed to know that Sirius Black was important.
Arriving in my room I started to get ready for bed and was already turning off the lights when I heard a knock on the door.
