Chapter 3 - Hunter

I was sitting alone at lunch again. Nobody wanted to talk to the new kid. Plus somehow word had gotten out I was gay. I stared down at my food, a simple peanut butter and jelly sandwich and some goldfish. I had grabbed a chocolate milk from the lunch line and downed it almost immediately.

"Can we sit here?" A voice asked

I glanced up to find two people standing over me. The one who had spoken had chin-length curly red hair and shimmering blue eyes. The other one had dark brown hair and eyes that were just two shades of brown away from black. They seemed nice so I nodded and allowed them to sit down. The one with red hair was wearing a genderfluid and pansexual pride pin on the front of their purple sweatshirt. The other had an ally pin on their baby blue backpack.

"I'm Katlyn but you can call me Kat." The one with red hair said "I'm genderfluid. Right now I'm male but it changes sometimes. I'll try to let you know."

The other waved "I'm Faye. What's your name?"

"Hunter." I responded "It's nice to meet you. I don't really have any friends since I just moved here the other day."

"It's nice to meet you too. We honestly need more friends as well. Faye's one of my only two friends in the whole school." Kat said

"Really? Who's the other one?"

"Samantha Jones. She doesn't normally sit with us because she likes to eat outside."

"I have my math class with her!"

Faye laughed "If you get the chance, call her Sammy. She'll know you know us then and probably be a whole of a lot nicer. She tends to come off kind of rough to new people but she's actually really nice once you get to know her."

I smiled. "Will do."

We talked for the rest of lunch and it was nice to have some friends for once. Even last year at my old school I never really had that many friends as everybody just knew me as 'the gay boy'. Plus it was an all boys school just to make it even worse. There were only two other gay boys in school that I knew about and one boy who was bi. There was the group of boys who played rugby who always loved to pick on me and then laugh about it. Here it was at least somewhat better. Less people bullied me at the very least. I waved goodbye to Faye and Kat and headed off to class with a smile on my face.
