I walked into ELA and headed to my seat. Kat was already there and smiled at me as I lowered myself into the seat next to them.
"Gender today?" I asked
"Female." She said and frowned slightly
"What's wrong?"
"You're actually the first person to ask today."
I started to respond but Mr. Fri called attention to the class. His classes were always boring. He basically just talked the whole time. At least today we got to read a little bit in our class novel, The Giver (A/N I've read it before and it's amazing. Also I actually am reading it in class.). At one point after he'd been talking for a while I noticed Kat pull out a pen and begin doodling on her arm. She only came back to attention when he announced we would be doing a partner project.
"You will be working on this project with whoever sits at your desk with you. You will be accepted to work on it outside of class as we will not have enough time during school. You will be making a short comic based on The Giver with one of you drawing and the other writing."
I glanced over at Kat and realized this meant we would have to work together. Not that I was complaining but it could get a little awkward.
"Want to meet at my house after school to strategize?" I asked
She nodded and glanced back down at her arm. She was drawing a small stuffed cat and it looked absolutely adorable but then she ran her finger over it, smearing the ink away and leaving a large black mark.
"Why'd you kill it?" I asked jokingly
She shrugged, "It didn't look quite right." and pulled her sleeve over her arm.
"Ok, well meet me by the orchestra room after school."
Soon the bell rang and class ended.
