Chereads / Born as a Satin Pothos / Chapter 2 - -Chapter 1- I’m…alive?

Chapter 2 - -Chapter 1- I’m…alive?

A viny plant that covers one third of a large city ruin in the middle of a rainforest can be seen to be moving around in the morning sunlight, as if stretching after a long sleep. 'Ahh, the sun feels nice and warm on my leaves…' The plant, known as Satin Pothos, suddenly stops moving as if startled. 'The sun? My leaves? What?' Satin Pothos is startled at this thought as it is the first thought they have been able to form. 'What does this mean? Am I…alive? What does…alive mean?'

Satin Pothos stretches again, moving their vines while pondering this and soaking in the morning sunlight. After a short pause they answer their own question. 'I'm not sure, but it seems like it's good to be alive and the sun does indeed feel warm. It fills me with energy.' Satin Pothos sighed internally and continued soaking in the sun.

Satin Pothos, not knowing what else to do, continued like this for some time. Only recently developing a sense of self, Satin Pothos seemed to tire easily and would only be able to remain conscious for a few hours before falling into a sleep-like state for the rest of the day. After a while of this Satin Pothos gradually became used to themself.

'My vines cover this whole area' They note to themself how large their body is. They seem to be able to 'see' from every part of their body. Though as they do not have eyes their sense is not a typical visual sense. They can sense the colors and shapes of everything and this comes together to form an image but not in the same sense that eyes could display. As they are sensing it rather then seeing, the picture is much more detailed and vast rather then focused on any specific direction or area.

Until now Satin Pothos has only 'looked' at themself but now that they have realized that they can see themself and their surroundings they decide to 'look' at their environment. They are instantly bombarded with a ton of information that tries to knit together to form one image. But this is too much for Satin Pothos and causes a pain in their consciousness that is similar to a headache. Satin Pothos soon loses consciousness and falls asleep.

When Satin Pothos awakes they realize that it is too difficult to look around and they become discouraged. At this point it has been a few weeks since they have 'awoken' and become accustomed to their own body. Satin Pothos sighed sadly 'I thought I could look around, I wanted to see what was there.'

Pondering this to themself they try to think of a solution. 'If only I could 'look' in one direction, then it might not be so difficult.' Satin Pothos thinks about this for a while until they notice something. As Satin Pothos 'feels' their body they realize that there are other things that are moving all around them. Some of these organisms are touching their body and they realize that some are even breaking off small pieces of them to do who knows what with. As these organisms are on their body it seems they can 'see' them without 'looking' their direction. When they focus on them they realize that they seem to be different then them.

'This is very interesting, what are these things? Why are they taking bits of me?' Satin Pothos is not offended that they are eating parts of them. It does not feel any pain from this and their body is quite massive. The damage from these creatures is like a fingernail that scratches off dead skin.

Satin Phothos observes them for a while and a few days pass without them noticing. 'They seem to have a front and back, and they 'look' with their front.' Pondering this for a while Satin Pothos thinks to themself 'well that is very convenient, can i do that?' With this thought in mind Satin Pothos continues to observe all kinds of creatures that they can 'feel' all around them. They do not know what to call them but they are noticing that they are all very different.

They spend a long time observing these creatures. There are all kinds of bugs that live among their leaves and roots. There are also animals that they have 'felt' moving about. And they have even witnessed these animals interacting with each other. Sometimes the animals will interact with those that are very much like them. Satin Pothos also realized that the animals would interact with those that were different from them. For some reason the animals seem to like to put pieces of the other animals and bugs into their own body. Satin pothos did not know what this meant but they concluded it was the same as what the bugs would do with their body.

Satin Pothos was very interested in all of these creatures and began to observe them closer and learn many things. After the passing of a few more weeks they became very motivated once again. 'I want to be like these creatures, I want to look around and move my body.' Although satin Pothos could control every vine and leaf on their body they were still unable to move from this one location. Their intensely large root system grew deep into the earth holding on tightly, stopping any hope of exploring farther.

'Okay…' Satin Pothos thought to themself 'if I want to be like them I have to make my body like them.' Setting this as the current goal Satin Pothos continues to observe everything they can, even trying a few more times to 'look' around. However every time they tried this they would pass out and so they quickly give this up. Instead they focused on learning everything else they could about themself and their direct surroundings.

A year after Satin Pothos first 'woke up' and started observing and learning more about themself they realized something. 'There are energies in the air… and these energies are inside me too!' Noticing this, Satin Pothos began to focus on these energies and how all the creatures would interact with these energies. After a while they 'saw' something that amazed them further.

One of the animals that was quite small and low to the ground was using these energies in a unique way. The animal that was fighting with a larger animal suddenly gathered these energies and used them to move the wind and hit the larger animal causing it to stop moving and leak fluid. Satin Pothos was astonished that these energies could be used in such a way. After a bit of self study and observation they were able to use the energy to produce a similar effect. Though they had little use for this ability.

Satin Pothos continued to observe all the animals around them, learning everything they could. Eventually they saw that one animal would use these energies in a very appealing way. The animal seems to use the energy to change the size of their own body. 'That's amazing! They grew their body! How did they do that!'

Satin Pothos had a great ability to sense all the energies of the world that stemmed from their natural ability to sense the environment around this. So Satin Pothos continued to observe this animal specifically and watched how the energy moved and acted when the animal did this. After a bit of study Satin Pothos became quite excited. 'Allright! It's time to try it!' they proclaimed. Satin pothos focused on their own energy in their body and began to move it in a similar way trying to imitate the animal and shrink some of its leaves but no matter what they did it did not seem to work.

They could not get the energy to produce the same effect. But Satin Pothos did not let this discourage them. They just began to think harder about why this was not working. When the animal did it, they would move all the energy within their whole body but when Satin Pothos did it they were not able to move all their energy. 'My body is too large to move all my energy at once, if only I could separate a piece of myself and move it independently…. Wait! Maybe I can!'

Thinking this, Satin Pothos lifted one vine in excitement and focussed on the very end of it. Directing their thoughts toward a small piece of themself, a few feet long with a good amount of leaves, Satin Pothos forms a blade of wind using a bit of energy and launches it toward this part of their vine to detach it from the reset of their body.

The vine is sliced cleanly off and falls to the forest floor. Satin Pothos focuses on this detached Vine and directs their energy back into it. It seems that there is an invisible connection to this vine piece and they are able to control it just the same as their own body. Very amused by this satin pothos moves it around playfully, much like a snake. 'Ok, I have a smaller piece of myself but it's still not like those other creatures. I need to have a front and a back so I can look around better.'

Satin Pothos stops moving the vine around and instead begins to move it in the same way the animal from before did when they changed their size. With much excitement and anticipation, Satin Pothos marvels as the vine begins to grow until it's a bit thicker and is about a foot longer. 'I did it! … but wait, this doesn't work. It's just bigger, it's nothing like the other creatures. I still don't have a front and a back.' Pondering this for a short while Satin Pothos realizes something 'oh! I need to change the shape, not just the size. Of course, its obvious!'

'If I can change the size by moving the energy and stretching it then I should be able to change shape as well. But what shape does it need to be?' Thinking about this Satin Pothos begins to observe the creatures once again while still practicing and experimenting with changing the shape and size of the detached vine.

After some intense practice and observation a few more months pass before Satin Pothos is ready to try again. 'Ok, after looking closely at all the creatures they don't just have a front and a back.' Satin pothos was able to make a very important discovery while observing the creatures all around them. They had witnessed a fight between two creatures. One of the creatures had fired pieces of stones, created from energy, at the front of the other creature. These stones had hit the middle of the other creature's front and then the creature acted very strange as if it could no longer see.'

'That's strange' Satin Pothos had thought to themself 'it still has a front but it's acting like it can no longer see?' They pondered this for some time before coming to a conclusion. 'Perhaps it's something else that lets them see, when the creature shot the rocks at the other creature it seemed to hit two specific spots on the other creatures front and when it did the creature seemed to leak some of its fluid.'

After making this discovery Satin Pothos continued to study and observe the creatures around them before making a sound decision. 'It's true, they do not see from their front but from the smaller pieces of themself that are part of their front. Most of the creatures seem to have two of these and despite all the creatures being different they all seem to have these. I've made a few other discoveries as well, many of these creatures are similar in lots of ways.'

After realizing all of this Satin Pothos began to form a better idea of the body they needed to shape and turned their attention back to the severed vine. They have been able to keep this vine from wilting by sending it energy that their main body had collected from the sun and its roots. Once again they try to move the energy and change the shape of the vine. 'Ok, I should make it simple. I'll have two legs so I can move around and I'll make two arms as well. Some of the creatures seem to have hands that can grab things and I think this will be very useful so I will make these as well. I also need to make sure and create eyes.'

Satin Pothos didn't quite understand but whenever they learned about something new, it felt like they were just remembering something they had long forgotten. As such, they seemed to learn what most things were called just by learning about its very existence. The more they had observed the creatures around them the more they realized what all the similar features were. They had discovered that most creatures had a face that consisted of two eyes, one nose and one mouth. They had also realized that all the creatures had ears as well and that these ears could 'hear.' This word had come naturally to them but they were not quite sure what all of this ment. They were very fascinated and confused by all this new knowledge but it allowed them to develop a good picture of what they wanted to create.

Satin Pothos contiend to stretch and change the vine into the ideal shape. After they had formed a good mental image and began the process they seemed to form it into a specific shape as if on instinct. They shrank the length of the vine and stretched it out into a torso. Pulling two of the leaves down toward the ground they formed two legs with bends at the bottom that became feet. They did the same with two more leaves stretching them into arms and hands. When they got the body in a proper shape they turned their attention to the head. This part was very difficult as Satin Pothos had create not just the head but also the eyes, nose, moth and ears as well.

Focusing intensely on this, they carfally sculpt the vine into the desired shape until a little face with chubby cheeks can be seen. Finally, as if on instinct, Satin Pothos finishes it off by shaping some of the leaves as hair on top of the head and moving the others to cover strategic places on their body. As they finish shaping it, Satin Pothos stands it up and carefully inspects it before confirming that it is satisfactory.

'I can kind of move it around like the creatures, but it's difficult since I can still feel my whole body at the same time… maybe if I-' Satin Pothos thought of the idea that they could move their consciousness around and isolate it into the new body they had made. They immediately tested out this theory. They moved it from the center of their body and t into the small one they had created. The process was much easier then Satin Pothos thought it would be but when their consciousness easily moved from the large viny body into the small creature-like body Satin Pothos was shocked by the difference of information they received. The creature-like body had different senses that their main body lacked and of the senses that were the same the quality and quantity were vastly different. This shocked Satin Pothos causing them to immediately pass out as soon as their consciousness was isolated into the small body. The small body fell to the forest floor, eyes closed in a deep sleep.
